Tippett averaged about 3 goals a game last season and, at times, held our forward line together last year. If he had played every game last season, while maintaining similar numbers, he would have kicked 60+ goals which is an excellent return in the modern game

Swans fail again, but was Buddy to blame?

I didn’t think there was anything wrong with our pressure or tackling. We lost last night for other reasons, mainly poor delivery into the forward 50 and poor tactical decisions in the 2nd half

Swans fail again, but was Buddy to blame?

I thought Buddy went pretty well last night. There were certainly many other players who contributed less than him.

It as always going to take a bit of time for him to fit into the side, and for the side to learn how to best use him.

The aimless long bombs into the forward 50 when Collingwood had an extra 1-2 players back was a big reason why we lost.

The coaching decision to leave Maxwell unmarked and play Reid in defense in the last quarter, despite Collingwood’s defence being very undermanned when Brown went off, were bewildering decisions at the time and look even worse now that the match it over.

Poor performances from big name players such as Mcveigh (despite racking u the touches, his disposal was woeful), Shaw, O’Keefe and Jack (who is clearly still not 100%) hurt as well.

Those three factors, to name just a few, contributed much more to the loss, than Buddy

Swans fail again, but was Buddy to blame?

Bolton was a part-time midfielder for us in 2012 and permanent small forward in 2013. He was a handy contributor to the team but was far from a vital cog in our midfield over the past couple of years as he didn’t really play there.

There has to be something with his action that’s making him harder to face. We’ve seen bowlers of MJ’s speed before but I can’t remember so many batsmen being this clueless against them, especially given how much preparation the modern cricketer puts in to matches.

Sure bowlers have bowled magnificent spells and magnificent matches but not for this many matches in a row. There has to be something else besides simply pace, though obviously it’s a very important factor

Australia vs South Africa: Aussies pulverise the Proteas

It’s amazing how many people seemed to have missed what is really pretty obvious. Or saw it but decided to ignore it and start their own code war nonsense anyway…..

AFL vs NRL: A rivalry up there with the best

Except that you would have had the English team sitting around for a week or so in Australia doing nothing. It’s a long enough and expensive enough tour as it is.

Swapping the T20I’s and the ODI’s around might have been better as at least the T20 players wouldn’t miss the BBL finals, or even playing the T20I’s before the test series.

BBL needs to nuke the two-week final series

Maybe if you spent less time on The Roar and more time in the nets you’d have made the cut 😉

Stats (should) matter in Test selection

Nathan Tinkler changed the Jets colours from gold to red and blue. An owner changing name or colours can be a very emotional issue for fans but I’m not sure how it’s at all relevant to what you’re trying to get at

What does Heart takeover say about football's globalisation?

Not really. The ownership of a club doesn’t really determine whether it’s an ‘ethnic’ club or not. If they only look to appeal to fans of a cetrain ethnicity then it could be considered an ‘ethnic’ club. SFC are owned by a Russian but they’re hardly considered to be a club for Russians for example.

Manchester City are trying to become a global brand and want support from all over the world. They’re not going to care what ethnicity a new fan has. If they actively stated that they were specifically looking to target British ex-pats, or Qatari’s, then perhaps your point would be in any way valid. But they’re not so it isn’t

What does Heart takeover say about football's globalisation?

When the stats are at least in the same ballpark then obviously other more subjective factors carry greater weight. However, generally stats are the best and more accurate guide.

While I do agree with your overall point (channel 9 bad, channel 10 pretty good), there are a few things I’d disagree on.

The ratings increase for the BBL would almost certainly be more to do with the fact that it’s now on FTA TV, in particular a major network, as opposed to Foxtel. The fact that channel 9’s ratings are very, very good suggests that people don’t tune in or out because of the commentary. No matter how annoying they find it they’ll still put up with it if they want to watch the match.

Also, talking while the bowler is bowling is something that channel 10’s commentators do all the time. It’s probably the only real criticism that I can make about their commentary. Well, that and Andy Maher

SPIRO: Big Bash a hit as Channel Nine opts for Mickey Mouse antics

What was the 500k for? If it was to help pay for marquee players then I don’t mind the idea as long as the marquee has the profile. ADP’s arrival was a coup for the league as a whole, not just SFC and all clubs would have received extra revenue when they hosted SFC in season 1. I don’t see anywhere where it says that other clubs wouldn’t get some assistance if they asked, and the marquee was of a high profile. Berisha isn’t a marquee though and the Roar aren’t trying to make him one so it is irrelevant. Sydney’s cap (marquee’s and guests excluded) is the exact same as every other club.

As for WSW, it’s a temporary measure designed to ensure that they were competitive in their first season. Obviously not many expected them to do as well as they did. All clubs agreed to the extra spots as well. Presumably if they saw it as such an unfair advantage then they would have complained when given the opportunity. They didn’t.

FFA won't bend salary cap rules for Roar

Agreed. He’s certainly good enough. Just needs a spot to open up for him

Australia vs England: Third One Day International - ODI live scores, blog

I think it’s more a case that the ODI team has done well lately and there just isn’t a spot available. I mean, who would you drop? Marsh, despite his mediocre red ball form, is a very good one day player and Christian has the bowling option to help him (and they’re probably both replaced by Watson and Bailey when they’re fit). Maxwell is proving to be a very useful ODI player as well. Finch just made a hundred etc

Having said that he’s at the ground so he seems to have been called up to the squad

Australia vs England: Third One Day International - ODI live scores, blog

Agreed. The Scud did seem to be getting it all together before injuries hit him. While there will always be arguments about whether he lived up to his potential, he did a lot for Australian tennis and deserves respect for that

Is Kyrgios Australia's tennis saviour?

The one thing I will say in defense of Farina is that there wasn’t a lot of salary cap space available for this season so he hasn’t really been able to build his own squad. With a number of players coming off contract at the end of this season, and marquee spots being available as well, you could argue that next season is when Farina really should be judged.

Having said that, I don’t exactly hold out much hope that a squad overhaul will work with Farina still at the helm.

Mariners edge out struggling Sydney FC

I was more thinking about the response from the world cup committee if the SCGT put that kind of ultimatum to them, as opposed to from members. They wouldn’t have wanted to miss out on hosting matches so were never going to ‘rock the boat’ with ANZ stadium also showing interest.

Yeah, I imagine there will be a significant number of competitions offering free tickets etc for a fair few the early matches. No doubt that Afghanistan will feel like the home team when they play England

Haddin: Aussies chasing World Cup selection

Given that ANZ stadium put in a bid to host Sydney’s matches, I have my doubts that the SCGT would have received a very good response to such an ultimatum if they had chosen to go down that route.

It does seem stupid though, especially for the smaller games. I have a few friends who are members so I’m lucky enough to get their guest passes quite regularly and we would have probably gone to England/Afghanistan purely for the novelty of seeing Afghanistan play if the passes worked. It almost certainly won’t happen now though

Haddin: Aussies chasing World Cup selection

I think he was just caught up in the atmosphere a bit. He’s clearly a very confident kid but I didn’t see anything too bad on the court. If he starts abusing officials and acting a bit like Tomic off the court then there might be some problems but I haven’t seen anything like that yet

Is Kyrgios Australia's tennis saviour?

I don’t know why as the two situations aren’t comparable at all. Marquee’s and guest players don’t count towards the cap. Regular squad players do. Unless the Roar sign Berisha as a marquee or guest player, his wages should go in the cap

FFA won't bend salary cap rules for Roar

No, he needs too many balls to get himself going. T20 doesn’t allow for that. I’d probably put North in that category as well, despite his decent knock last night

Sydney Sixers beat Renegades by two runs

If it’s a requirement from the tournament organisers then it’s not the SCGT’s fault. Their hands are tied. It would make more sense to complain to the people in charge of the world cup as they’re the ones who set the rule. Of course, I doubt it would do much anyway

Haddin: Aussies chasing World Cup selection

Siddle’s one day record, at both domestic and international level, suggests that he’s not one of our best one day bowlers. In fact he’s not even close. Admittedly he hasn’t played an ODI for a few years so he may have improved but there are a fair few ahead of him in this format.

Why aren’t Australia’s best bowlers playing ODIs?

I think England were about 136 after the first 30 overs at the MCG and made 269 so it held true for them. Not sure how often it happens in general anymore though
