I'm a die hard AFL fan, great childhood memories watching the 'Duck' take teams apart in the 90's and leading the Roos to two flags.

Well said. Cute little articles like this always pop up when North aren’t winning games. The obvious ignorance is the best part as North are actually in a stronger position off the field than they have been in years. Funny too that the guy is just a ‘dude in Brisbane’ yet is so energetic in his hate. Probably just needs another hobby

I did include a few of those stats you mention but thanks for adding a few more! Its a a long list when it comes to Boomer.

Brent 'Boomer' Harvey, 427 and counting

Amen

Brent 'Boomer' Harvey, 427 and counting

I assume you’re referring to a segment in his book that the Herald Sun posted this week (great timing as usual) in regards to Carey? Please enlighten us to all the other past, present and current coaches he dumps on all the time. To snipe from behind the fence without evidence is easy mate and a bit sad, particularly in light of what the guy has achieved.

I really hope they turn it around because the support is there. The Lions are struggling too but it’s amazing what some good performances will do to the psyche of a club and it’s faithful. The advantage Port and Brisbane have is they at least have flags on the belt whereas the Suns haven’t proven anything so they have a long road ahead!

It's not always sunny on the Gold Coast

I agree Paul. It seems like everyone is in cruise control hoping things will get better but no one is willing to get their hands dirty.

It's not always sunny on the Gold Coast

There is a simple reason he’s much maligned, it’s because he’s a very average footballer that’s got the best out of himself. No one disputes the fact he’s a premiership captain but he is still a spud every time I watch him play. Never accountable, too busy barking instructions instead of leading by example, I agree with Chaos – Harley 10 times out of 10 and I don’t follow either side.

In defence of the much-maligned Nick Maxwell

Couldn’t agree more Judy. Very poor club management from the Brisbane board.

The new expiry date in AFL coaching

Solid assessment Cam.

A point on the captaincy, Jack would’ve no doubt made a fine choice as I see a lot of Michael Voss about the way he plays. However I’m not opposed to giving Drew the captaincy as I see him as an established leader on and off the field. There is no doubt JZ will be skipper one day, but the way Drew handles himself directing the boys on field and in the media as a face of the club is first class. I don’t see it being a detriment to the club or Ziebell. Definitely agree with the conservative selection being an issue this year though, Greenwood, Daw, Gysberts and Jacobs should all have played more footy. Scott obviously wants more continuity in the starting 22 which is fair enough considering our good injury run but I think players have gone into their shell at pivotal moments in games this year. New blood may have seen a bit more caution to the wind in second halves.

I think everyone that knows footy realises the Roos are a 12-6 side not a 8-10 side. Will be interesting to see if we can pinch 9th and get in on the back of a Bomber punishment.

North Melbourne's wasted year

8 zip… Some absolute howlers. North beat two teams!

North Melbourne vs Geelong: AFL live scores, blog

I agree. Three different things, I am not suggesting we outlaw shrugging shoulders but ducking into someone should be looked at when it comes to protecting the players from themselves.

Ducking for cover in the AFL

Completely agree Ian. Warning system is a solid approach.

Ducking for cover in the AFL

Did Jordan Lewis shrug his shoulders and get a free on Friday night? No. He blatantly ducked his head into Brent Stanton hoping to draw a free kick. You can see Stanton back away with his hands in the air. I agree with the shoulder shrug but there is a difference when a player blatantly ducks his head for a free like Lewis or even Jack Riewoldt recently.

Ducking for cover in the AFL

Not too sure how the result tonight is relevant, but I agree with everything else said in the article. The football world needs this sorted before a final is played, otherwise the whole integrity of the competition will be in question.

ASADA must act if Bombers beat Hawks

Lol. Taken from 1000 Australians? That’s profound. Take a look at the average crowd numbers Jo and you’ll see that ‘report’ is laughable. The average league crowd was 16k in 2012. The average AFL crowd was 32k. Enough said.

The International Rules Series is slowly dying

Good article. As a North member, its hard to watch second halves when you know the lack of rotations and management of the 22 is nearly always going to result in a dip. Particularly in stamina and work rate around the ball. This was no more evident on Sat night watching Grima dragging his ass behind Green as he kicked a crucial goal in the last quarter. They need a plan B, C and D.

Roos should have heeded Essendon’s lesson

My point exactly. There was also an article from Nathan Burke written in Inside Footy covering the topic. A shame the best players can’t play for their country.

What happened to equality on the AFL's 'field of dreams'?

Apart from giving history lessons what are you actually arguing? The 13 year old jibe reaction was my opinion. Because this is an opinion based site. Obviously a very tender subject for you so I’ll be blunt. You have completely missed the whole point of this article, which was to highlight the denial of the best players in the AFL being selected on a national level because of race, not merit. I wonder if the Irish are worried about playing a team that is selected from 11% of our talent pool? It would be like them saying we’re only selecting players from Cork and Kerry to represent Ireland, I’m sure that would go down well. Just finally before you load the rocket launcher up again I am in no way challenging the merit of an all indigenous team. I am challenging the way the AFL has handled it… And it just happens to be Multicultural Round? How ironic.

What happened to equality on the AFL's 'field of dreams'?

Well said.

They’re evenness across the ground and players that are unheralded make them a good side. The players you mentioned aren’t rock stars but they just get the job done week in, week out.

Is 2013 Fremantle's year?

I was more pointing out the fact that if they had’ve punched the ball through like they should’ve the game was there for the taking. But yes, Sydney did play better over the course of the game.

Is 2013 Fremantle's year?

You seem a bit confused TomC. What perspective are you after? The one that celebrates every single culture that plays the game? The one that is promoting us as an equal? The AFL are denying 89% of players in the competition a chance to play for Australia. I’m not talking about caucasian, I’m talking about every single culture or background that is NOT indigenous. Bachar Houli, Nic Nat, Majak Daw – all from different cultures but still Australian and should be eligible. Like I said, have an All-Star game but why can’t they have an All-Australian game too. Hopefully that’s the ‘perspective’ you’re talking about.

What happened to equality on the AFL's 'field of dreams'?

Not confused at all. In fact I have grown up with different cultures and backgrounds and can honestly say if people think that is flat out racism, they are yet to live in a real world.

Interesting tip with Brisbane. Black and Moloney out against a blue-collar Roo midfield in form? I think the Kangas have them covered. Agree with every other tip except for Geelong’s margin, will be closer to 100!

2013 AFL season: Round 16 Preview

Thanks for your comment Franko, I agree. Definitely a smokey this year, they are so even on every line. McPharlin is a big loss though.

Is 2013 Fremantle's year?

Great call. Whole-heartedly agree and was about to write something very similar! Will blog about it instead 🙂
