Yeah, I remember that. Wasn’t keen on most of the Aussie players back then, but Gilchrist was a true legend. When kids at my school said they were out despite the umpire’s/ref’s verdict, I called it ‘doing a Gilchrist’.

ASHES: DRS done wrong kills cricket

I remember doing the same thing as a primary school student to Gorbachev in the late 80s. I pleaded with him to take down the Berlin Wall. As I know my letter must have been read by him personally, so I really should get some credit for what happened. :p

Geoff Lemon's Ashes Diary: Time for Warner to face the chop

I really enjoyed your article. Amusing and informed. Couldn’t agree more about Warner. Missing a test is fair punishment for his behaviour. However, I think his inclusion in any test makes a mockery of the game. Mind you I don’t take 20/20 matches seriously at all. Seems like an overpaid ‘hit and giggle’ IMO. Guess I’m not the target audience of cricket these days.

Geoff Lemon's Ashes Diary: Time for Warner to face the chop

I agree that he’s not a villain, but he would have expected to cop it sweet from the Subi crowd if the AFL and Essendon do little about his comments. Besides it probably buoyed the team to win. I can’t see the harm of the booing. If there were racist comments or violence then that would be another matter.

Booing is for morons - leave Jobe alone

Oh, please. He’s not a victim.

Booing is for morons - leave Jobe alone

I’m all for it. Makes for a great, intimidating atmosphere for the away team. As long as it doesn’t involve pitch invasions and things being thrown around.

Booing is for morons - leave Jobe alone

This is dizzy stuff, folks!

Port claim another big AFL scalp

*hop, but ‘hope’ kind of makes sense too. It’s a shame being a *&#! doesn’t really stop your success in the sporting world. I know I wouldn’t last long in my field of work if I behaved like that. Surely they have an existing contract which would restrict movements domestic or international? Wait…now I remember the whole SBW ordeal with that issue.

Rebel Raiders: the victims of a poisonous office culture

@Meesta Cool. Agreed. However, they’d probably hope over to the UK or switch to rugby somewhere lucrative. It doesn’t seem like there is any way these players can face up to themselves and accept responsibility for their actions. (Just like David Warner’s preference for IPL over Australian cricket team).

Channel Nine want to influence ODI teams for better TV

Well, they forked out the money. So surely as a major stakeholder, Nine should have some input? Looking forward to some B-list celebrities padding up at some point. Karl Stefanovic, anyone?

Channel Nine want to influence ODI teams for better TV

Well done, Socceroos. I’m hoping Oman makes it to third. An Oman vs. Uzbekistan/Iran/South Korea clash, followed by 5th place South American team (possibly Uruguay) could be interesting. Jordan seem to only like playing at home.

Socceroos qualify for 2014 World Cup with 1-0 win over Iraq

Well, can’t say I’m surprised. However, isn’t it inevitable that one (or more) team will always sport a losing record in a season? Not everyone can win at the same time and sometimes the coach can do little about it. Hope the next coach gets a decent tenure.

Neeld sacked from Demons

I remember this happening during the handball in the 2000 Olympics and the NFL preseason game in 1999 between the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers. It got very annoying and made the crowd feel like idiots who forked out money for something they supposedly know nothing about. Some people in Australia actually enjoy and know something about sports not prevalent in Australia. I honestly hope the baseball games will be as authentic as possible.

2014 MLB season set to launch in Sydney

+1. Want to see some evidence that the whole system is rooted. Stats? Source?

Changes needed to Sheffield Shield cricket

I’ll pay that. I’m a Carlton fan myself and wish they could wear the Navy Blue all the time.

AFL guernsey clashes are just a total farce

Really? Which other clash outfit can be taken more seriously? It’s probably one of the most conservative clash jerseys. At least they try to wear the navy blue whenever they can. However, I do recall that time when they once wore a Blue M&M promotional jersey. Yuck.

AFL guernsey clashes are just a total farce

It would make it interesting if they did qualify.

Are the Gold Coast Suns finals bound?

Todd, only Lebanon in Group A have been officially eliminated. I’m really loving the competitiveness of the AFC qualifiers. It’s a little less one-sided than groupings in Europe often tend to be.

Socceroos make a point in Saitama, but still much to do

They should more or less follow the standard in the US with the NFL, NHL and NBA. The away strip is predominately white in most cases (except in the NBA which is the reverse). Teams like Port Adelaide, Fremantle, Brisbane and Carlton have pretty much got it right. Admittedly it’s difficult for teams which have white and another color in equal portions (i.e. Collingwood, Geelong, etc) but I’m sure there is a way around it.

AFL guernsey clashes are just a total farce

Not necessarily sacked, but certainly suspended from his roles. It just looks like his actions are ultimately condoned. For many people, offering an apology is a convenient out of a messy situation. I remember kids at school continually getting in trouble because they knew the only consequence was just to say sorry. If David Morrow cops it sweet for what he thought was an off-air remark, how does it justify the behaviour of a high-profile and publicity-driven Maguire?

A rest would do Eddie the world of good

Well said by both of you.

Fronting the media with a tearful apology. I wish I could get away with things by appearing contrite. People will remember of course, but he’ll still be president and media personality without any consequence.

A rest would do Eddie the world of good

Exactly. And Morrow’s remark was a supposedly an off-air gaffe. It wasn’t some attempt at trying to entertain his on-air audience. I have no sympathy whatsoever for Eddie Maguire.

A rest would do Eddie the world of good

He still gets away with it. The media will soon move on and everybody will get to see and hear Eddie’s smugness once again. Hooray!
