You want to fix rugby league for 2019? Here is how you do it.
1.) Greenberg out. He is an accountant with absolutely no idea about the game. His administration has put emphasis on counting money in the bank rather than investing it in the games future. His time in charge of rugby league has set the sport back.
2.) Bring back the shoulder charge. It was one of the most thrilling parts of the game and seeing two front rowers wind up and clatter each other is a sight that modern day spectators have had taken from them. I’m aware it was a player welfare issue which prompted the outlawing of the tackle, but put the onus on the players to do it safely. Any contact to the head, suspend them. Police it in the same way as the spear tackle. Its not illegal to pick someone up and dump them to the ground, unless they exceed the horizontal. So, taking player safety into account they haven’t outlawed the act of picking someone up, but they have put the onus on the players to do it safely. Get it wrong, you get suspended; simple. Its an important part of the game that we’re just not seeing.
3.) Gould, Warren and Hadley NEED to go. The three of them have forgotten more about rugby league than most of us will ever know, but the point is they have forgotten it. Listening to Gould and Warren in particular you start to wonder if they even know the rules anymore. They have been great servants to the game, but it obvious to anyone that listens, that the game has left them behind. Keep Erin Molan away from anything if you want it to succeed too. Channel 9 should throw the kitchen sink at Matty Johns if they’re serious about revamping their coverage. Something needs to be done. Many people are tuning into fox sports coverage of free-to-air games because they cant stand the channel 9 commentators. And if your alienating the die-hard fans, I can only imagine the sort of damage these blokes are doing to the casual fan.

My 2019 NRL wishlist

Morris did get a penalty for the Slater incident, but Hodgkinson didnt find touch with the resulting kick and gifted the pill back to Queensland. And as for the Hodges head rub; hes been doing it for ten plus years, he has a patent on the” condescending head rub”, its one of the best parts of his game, and could not have been used more effectively to Hoffman after what can only be described as one of the more brainless acts I’ve ever seen with the game on the line. To strip a ball on tackle 4 with 2 men in the tackle with 90 seconds to go when you need the ball back is just the height of unintelligence. The head rub was well deserved.

Five questions from State of Origin I

I think re. Ashley Cole, Jose gave Azpilucueta a chance when Cole was injured and he had a blinder, so in my opinion he was waiting until young Ceasar had a bad game . That bad game was against Stoke, where I think it was Johnathon Walters?? absolutely bullied him on numerous occasions. Cole is apparantly starting tommorows champs league game.

You also could have touched on Chelseas woeful set piece defending. All three of Sunderlands and two of Stokes goals coming from poor defending and clearing off the set piece. I would be interested to see how many of thier seasons goals conceded were from set pieces.

Petr Cech has to be benched. His form at times this season has made Joe Hart look like Peter Schmichael. Put Schwarczer in for the remainder of the season, he surely can’t do any worse.

Also, I find it interesting that you didn’t touch on the Juan Mata issue. The fact that arguably our best number 10 is often on the bench or watching from the stands is the most concerning problem for me. Jose’ has obviously made a decision that Oscar is the “10” he wants to work with using the frail arguement that Mata isn’t as defensively committed, but his offensive output has to be weighed up.

He clearly also isn’t a fan of David Luiz either with speculation indicating that hes all but signed on the dotted line to play at the Camp Nou in January.
