here is the voting.
Have to question some of the votes for the lower ranked horses. The votes for First Seal must have come form the same scholars that voted First Seal as NSW horse of the year.
Protectionist probably the lowest vote for a Melb Cup winner in awhile – strange as at the time was labelled a dominant win – his failures in the Autumn obviously played on the judges mind.
I would love to see a change in the voting process for this next year with hopefully having an element of a public vote.

3WNC: Australian Horse of the Year Awards tonight - not that you'd know
The trainers Association has been incredibly silent today. Imagine an AFL coach having an outburst like that and no response from AFL Coaches rep.
The problem is – Moody resigned from Vic Trainers Assiciation
He a a member of NSW TA – but they broke away from the Australian Trainers Association in 2008.
The Australian Trainers Association recently demoted its long serving CEO – whom was widely ridiculed for basically no cation – with a guy from outside the industry with no Racing experience. Also they said they recruited him, but nobody has seen a job ad and they could not afford a proper recruitment agency.
So it was the ATA responsibility to speak up with Racing Australia’s proposed rule changes. Do you think they did?
Moody is right: Time for a rules revamp
In 2013/14 Racing Queensland spent $2.5M on a Greyhound Adoption Program
In contrast Greyhounds Victoria spent $1.2M.
Revenue for GV $77M . Revenue for RQ Greyhounds – $20M
Go figure

ok here is the response from Racing Qld

Its a pretty funny way of disclosing part of the information. Need to see full financial year results.

But certainly they are saying that the Tatts deal (only inked on June 27th 2014) did not support the almost immediate across the baord increases to prizemoney. Thats the topline issue and everything else is pretty minor.
The paper and consultation asks a lot of questions but leaves the big elephant out of the room “Why keep the three codes together under one administration” . Nobody wants it – Vic and NSW show and advocate that it does not work. Especially as coming from a thoroughbreds perspective that has more than 75% of betting turnover, large employment and breeding industries that are more closely linked and with interstate competition than trots or dogs. Why the motivation to keep all three together? It seems like they are committed to following with the werunasone market platform – the absolute worst marketing strategy and implementation of a racing jurisdiction I have ever seen. And they still keep it alive at http://werunasone.com.au/ – have a look for some amusement and hopefully a Uni marketing guru will do a case study/paper
This type of consultation looks great from a KPMG/Deloittes consultancy background – but is slow and caters to the conservative of any committee decision. But it needs a leader, a spruiker whom can instil confidence and rally around participants. That should be the CEO – somebody who knows how to market racing. The board – well it just seems a joke when they want an independent Chairman – who has not owned or been a member for 2+ years – when once again consider NSW and Vic with leading owners and breeders Messara and Moodie as Chairman

Here is the Tabcorp results

Three Wide No Cover: A look at racing's biggest stories
just looking from a different angle. In the case of Darren Smith it was proven that he was trying to get an unfair advantage and his horses had an incredible run of success.
The same seems to have applied to Sam Kavanagh. I was actually at the Magic Millions and saw Sam and some of his owners celerbrating as Midsummer Sun went across the line in the Gosford Cup – interesting aside Matt Rudolph was also in the area that day.
But take the case of Peter Moody. He has one positive – and his stable has been pretty consistent re results. As Moody has explained the punishment for him far outweighs any advantage of one race win – plus if it was that he was using for a positive effect and had had success – why not do it for more horses.
I was probably more concerned re the evidence from the Chris Waller stable that it was normal procedure to give horse a dose of bute (frusemide) when they did fast work on a Tuesday leading into a raceday start on a Saturday.
Would be interesting to get the owners bills for the horses suspected of being treated. Maybe the stewards should be reviewing all owners invoices – as i presume the trainers are passing on and and all vets expenses. In the case of Moodys horse Lidari – Oti’s Terry Henderson is not the guy you would be able to pull a swifty off
anyway discuss.
A bad case of the cobalt blues
Well here is the NSW version/view of events
http://www.theage.com.au/sport/horseracing/punters-get-what-they-want-with-victoria-racing-back-on-sky-20150809-giuztv.html
The 5 year deal with Intl rights included is interesting.
I would love to see some $$ figures re media rights. Just this morning we see laid bare how much the NRL rights are.
So how much for racing rights. Was flagged that NSW was $30M but I think inflated. Qld in the midst of TVN bidding v Sky was reported to be $15M – but then how is RQLD in a $28M black hole (which I don’t believe until somebody publishes some numbers!!)
So what does Tabcorp/Sky pay for Vic rights now on Sky1 and digital v what Crownbet or Sportsbet pay and its free on Ch78 and Ch7 for the big Group 1 days?
Victorian racing back on Sky
impressive!

The addition of the 9th racing is just economic logic and smart idea. It has worked extremely well for racing Victoria and a big contributor to increase in profit that RV will report this financial year.
If they can link this “Highway Handicap” and package up with the Country Championship series races in the lead up to The Championships and including the final – this would be attractive for a sponsor.
So thinking who would be a good brand………ok NRMA. Ok remember you read it here first.
Racing NSW to bump up topweight to 61kg in hope to boost field sizes, add special ninth race on Saturdays
Great interview with my old boss Winfried Englebrecht- Bresges
Couple of points – Vertical integration is a key point – WA racing should take note – dont sell the Tab!
Also the OCB that Winfried refers to is a Off Course Betting Center – so like a TAB – big community drawcards in Hong Kong even just for the air conditioning in summer. I will try and source a video of the crowd crush when the races are on or a jackpot on a Mark 6 – HKJC version of Lotto.
Also despite what Shane said , no official waiting list for HKJC membership. It is difficult and expensive but with the right connections you could become a member almost immediately (if thinking of moving to HK). Ownership very much different – first you need to be a member, pass the ownership committee and then enter a ballot. You might wait 5 or 6 years to get lucky in the ownership ballot to have the privilege of buying a horse that can race in HK.
