Yeah they need a female voice. She’ll need to be intelligent and able to keep her own against the blokes in the commentary box. Isa showed she could handle herself with the boys club.

Good call about the cross promotion. Sad but true. “Delta Goodrem, how long have you been a cricket fan for..?”

An attempt, which has failed. Purely based on the social media pipes, Michael Clarke has not been well received by the public.

Channel Nine's cricket commentary team needs an injection of youth

The explosion of T20 cricket, changes to Australian pitches, how teams and individuals are managed throughout the summer and the year, the number of games played have all changed since Tubs and Heals.

“Loud commentary in Spanish over the PA system would also help.”

Hahaha, fantastic.

Could Thunderball be football's answer to Twenty20 cricket?

I’ve never understood this philosophy.

Popa has done a fantastic job as coach. Let’s not forget, how new this club is. Only in one season was there a massive failure in 2015.

Sure the recycling every two years is a different approach but so far the results have been pretty good.

Surely it’s their priority during the transfer window. A Bobo type player has done wonders for Sydney FC, although there is a lack of quality strikers in the A-League.

Jamie Maclaren would be lovely late Christmas gift…

Great post Hoc. I agree, Popa is a great coach and judging by his press conferences he genuinely likes what he sees in terms of chance creation and it’s only a matter of time until those chances are goals.

I also think some decisions against the Wanderers this season have been a disgrace. But that’s universal across all soccer fans, I guess.

I haven’t even considered our chances in the ACL this year, it will be interesting to see what changes are made to both the squad and style of play during the ACL campaign.

Don’t think cricket particularly Test cricket should be bluntly the entertainment of getting a wicket with all this waiting around and checking and rechecking and triple checking of a no ball.

Both teams bowled an extraordinary amount of no balls and Hilfenhaus seems to be having trouble with the crease since ball one, so maybe the pitch was a little off through the crease ? Just a thought.

This no-ball checking business annoys me

$1000 for a wicket on a no-ball, is possibly the silliest thing I have ever heard on The Roar.

Firstly no bowler, particularly fast bowler wants to waste all that energy bowling 140-150km/h wrecking ball down again because it was a no-ball. Secondly, getting a wicket on a no ball must be one of the worst feelings in the game at the moment, particularly with this stupid law that an umpire can check every wicket delivery for a no ball it is killing the entertainment value (of which cricket can ill afford).

Thirdly, bowling is a rhythm art, much like the batsman having the need to touch his pads before every delivery, the fast bowler has his run up strides marked out, his position of where he is use to bowling from, both on the crease and from hand. Since young fellas they have built themselves on this rhythm year after year and it has got them to where they are today. In junior cricket 90% of the bowlers bowl with their foot right on the crease for that little extra to help them as much as possible.

You cannot simply change that by adding a stride at the top of the run up, it’s going to take a lot of time. Also the bowler can’t afford to worry consistently where his foot is as this added concentration will stop him performing at his best and fastest.

The worst thing is the that many no balls would not be called by millimeters however as soon as there is wicket it’s all eyes on for the smallest on margins, it’s getting almost impossible to get a batsmen out.

I am with Richie on this one and saying they should go back to the back foot rule, seems simpler.

Bowlers should be personally punished for no-balls

Proteas are just playing smart tactics after suffering so long with Warne, the only weak point in the Australian team is the new spinner, as our quicks are very strong now and at the time of Bryce’s smashing. Australia will employ similar tactics to Tahir when he bowls.

Unfortunately finger spinners suffer on Australia wickets, however I feel Clarke’s captaincy is key, Clarke (in my opinion) understands Lyon’s job, tie down an end and pick up the odd wicket, whilst rotating the fast bowlers so they can steam in all day.

Punter did not recognise this and did not captain the spinners well after Warne as he was inexperienced in the matter. Lyon will go alright and do the job he is there for, not bag 6-7 wickets an innings but rather the game plan that was mentioned previously.

Will Lyon survive Proteas or end up as cold as Bryce?

The cupboard was bare of fast bowling ranks 18 months/ 2 years ago, now there are no quality batsmen as many are still progressing their first class careers and gaining that invaluable experience.

Patience and these batmen; Hughes, Khawaja, Ferguson (add more names please) will be ready after a couple of seasons and the team will be the better for it. Meanwhile just put up the best team for the conditions and the game plan until then. I like how Quiney has that experienced old head on his shoulders and may actually give it a decent fist, much like Mike Hussey when he started his belated test career and average close to 100 in tests for 2 years(ish)

Still worried about Steyn’s pace a couple of days ago though… goodluck boys !

Second rate Quiney perfect for one off Test

Callum Ferguson anyone ?

Had a couple of injuries but I think he is a class player who needs time and backing of the board. If Watson was given so many chances why can’t Ferguson ?

Mark "Baby Boof" Cosgrove could be the answer for Australia

He was about 15 metres from the ball from the angle I saw and I don’t expect him to dive for anything lol

Mark "Baby Boof" Cosgrove could be the answer for Australia

I think the spinners after Warne suffered alot from Ponting’s poor captaincy, field placements were wrong and he was expecting that spinner to change the game like Warne or break THAT partnership, which rarely happened while the opposition spanked the ball around all day without threat, only their errors causing them to lose their wicket.

Now Clarke has got the reins I feel he understands the new type of spinner in the team, as he has also bowled a few handy overs, furthermore Clarke is creative with ideas and field placements, rightly or wrongly, however this allows the new spinner freedom to try what he thinks is best rather catering to his captain’s wishes.

Lyon is the future, but Krezja took 12-13 wickets on his debut (correct me if I’m wrong) and was dropped after being placed at the WACA ?! What did they think an offie was going to do at the WACA ?! Selectors really need a blowtorch applied to them so such stupid decisions are not repeated.

Anyway, leave Lyon, gives the ball loop and has great bounce plus gets a nice angle, hopefully Mushtaq or whoever is the spin coach now works on variation, if only to play with the batsmen minds.

Geez, is it cricket season yet ? Hahaha love it !

Australian cricket must stick with Nathan Lyon

I think you’re underestimating two important points;

1) The popularity of Hesky/ any big name, young or old within Australia’s football community

2) The difference between the EPL and A-League in terms of quality. It’s astronomical. Heskey will score plenty in this league. He was being shopped around the EPL so he still has that fitness at that level and will demolish the A-League’s level.

What are the Newcastle Jets thinking with Emile Heskey?

Can’t believe this devastating news… why didn’t the WSW go for half the Bayern Munich team ? Very confused …

BUT seriously these older players will probably be the best players within the league and more importantly major pulling cards for those teams… Before these signing just having a WSW team sold me, this is just gravy.

We should also remember Ballack, del Piero and Hesky, if all approved, are still fit enough for the highest leagues, this competition will see them have less injuries and still the best skills.

More the merrier and we will love all of them !!! Come on Wanders !!

Is signing Michael Ballack a gamble?

Maybe we can play some attacking love-to-watch rugby from the Wallabies.

UPDATE: Robbie Deans reports categorically denied

I hope they stick to one jersey for the A League teams. The NRL has about four to five different strips with even the home team wearing their away jerseys and it’s a massive pet peeve of mine !!! The AFL have got it right, KISS, keep it simple stupid, one home jersey for home matches and one away jersey when your home jersey clashes with your opponents home jersey !!!!!!

David Gallop’s five NRL ideas for the FFA

Depends on so many factors.

With so many new stars at Chelsea, can they gel and work together or need a season or two ?

Man. City seem a little confused at having no real transfers in and no drama !? If they’re a team throughout they’ll win but I feel they want to conquer Champion’s League, but would explode if they don’t…

Manchester United will focus again on winning just the local stuff, if they want a real chance of winning the Champion’s League they need to sign another left back and midfielder with quality.

Arsenal and Liverpool is anyone’s guess but they don’t have the class of the other at the moment and Spurs with Modric gone and Adabeyor gone (excuse spelling) will struggle ! keep the ball away from Bale and Walker and they got nothing.

English Premier League back for another season

Hopefully this springboards his reputation for European football.

In Europe most young players are told to stay in their home country until they are older, for example Bale last season who has now signed a new four year contract instead of going to Spain.

Wanderers rookie chooses A-League over EPL

main problem is their squad depth, first team is good on paper and exciting to watch, but when key players get injured, such as Bale, Parker etc, they suffer and don’t have the same quality coming from the bench. CL qualifications would stretch them in this department too and when we get into the very busy parts of the season, the team suffers most through that period.

EPL preview 2012-2013: Tottenham

Andy Murray sulks and bitches every match, he is a terrible sportsman.

Why I'm sick of Australian swimmers and their tears

Yeah I think all of Australia is behind you mate !

Last night I watched a Colombian woman win a bronze medal, as she did she fell to her knees and cried, the look the heaven to say thank you.

Mean while any Australian who doesn’t live up to their own hype whinges and sulks with a silver, many athletes would love the chance to be there let alone win a medal, how about some perspective.

Why I'm sick of Australian swimmers and their tears

Such a grub, worst thing I’ve seen on the football pitch for awhile.

Anyway he needs to sort his emotions out because every team he plays this season will be in his ear trying to fire him up and get him sent off.

Barton saga a bunch of hogwash

Lol, can’t argue mate.

Johnson to really step up this summer
