Thanks Stevo! Yeh I reckon next race I might need to do two talking points articles to cover everything interesting, perhaps this race was an exception, but there just seem to be interesting things happening everywhere you look up and down grid!

Agree on all your points, Renault are hugely improved. I guess they were always going to get there. Over their life as Benatton and Renault they have always been pretty up and down so I guess it was only a matter of time before they started to head north again.

I hope Hamilton figures out the tyres thing because in my opinion he is about the best guy in the field to watch. You could be right, if he had stopped two laps later on each stint he would not have had to make the final stop and would have probably held on to fourth or fifth. Will be awesome to watch how he goes.

Thanks Mark, it is my intention to keep it up for this year at least, but I have a 2 month old son, so who bloody knows how long it will last!! 🙂

I was really impressed with Button too, I didn’t put it in this post but I picked him as my driver of the day. I agree combining pace and tyre management is an impressive skill that is not too common, I hope Hamilton has a look at Button’s Telemetry and learns a few things. It will be interesting to see how Hamilton responds to this tyre issue. The best drivers always find a way to win in any conditions they find themselves in. Hamilton kind of did that in 2009 in a pretty rubbish car, but this year he needs to find a way to completely change his driving style while still staying fast, in my book if he can do it, he’ll cement himself in the upper echelon of F1 drivers.

Lotus were impressive, I didn’t actually realise how close they were to Alguersuari till after I had written this post otherwise they definitely would have got a mention. Kovalainen’s fastest lap was actually faster than Alguersuari’s best. Very good effort.

I want to see a few more races before I decide on DRS but it is looking pretty good. That dirty air has been such a problem for a long time, this seems to be a good solution.

It is so great to see a talented Aussie that actually has some decent financial backing. So many over the years have not quite made it simply because of the dollars.

Hopefully he’ll be our 4th F1 world champ! (yep I’m choosing to optimistic about Webber’s chances this year) 😉

Hey Marki, yeh when I realised it was over 1200 words I did think describing it that way was a little odd, but I left out so much of the story that I still felt it was correct! 🙂

To be honest I don’t car what team is called what, I just want them to sort it out, agree on an identity each and focus on racing. I really like both teams and it such a shame to have them caught up in this crap.

Agree, actually I was working on the last midfield post this morning and came to the same conclusion. Their car looks a lot better, Jaime Alguersuari, improved quite a bit last year…. but I don’t think they have improved enough to overtake many teams, maybe Force India, perhaps Sauber if things don’t go well for them, but I reckon most likely they will be fighting off Lotus.

Hey Guys

Force India started off reasonably well with a couple of 6ths and 7ths, but went quickly downhill. Nothing they have done over the winter suggests to me they will be anywhere near the front this year.

I’d also be very surprised if Williams trouble Ferrari and Red Bull, but I wouldn’t write them off against McLaren, Mercedes and Renault, it seems very much a battle for best of the rest honours for most of the teams, but who knows, F1 has surprised us before! As I said in my post I reckon the biggest question mark will be Pastor Maldonado he has a history of stupid errors so if he can keep it out of the well long enough Williams might surprise us.

Liuzzi and Hulk were both hard done by. I think Liuzzi has run out of chances in competitive teams, unfortunately he suffered the lion’s share of technical problems last year so his results looked a lot worse than perhaps they deserved to, although he did put in a cracking drive in Korea and he was completely screwed by Torro Rosso…but they do that.

Hulk will be back and he will win races. My bet is at Mercedes when Mr Schumacher decides enough is enough, which if he is flogged by Rosberg again this year will not be too far away. That said it is pretty tough on him, he did more than enough to keep his seat, it is a little sad to see Williams in the situation that they have to drop a competent driver for cash. At least Maldonado should be better than Nakijima!

G’day Mark, I could not agree more, he is an absolute star. You just wonder what he could have achieved in the last two years if BMW and Renault had have given him a front running car. I read yesterday that he will be walking with crutches soon, lets hope he recovers well enough to be back in an F1 car and be competitive again soon.

Agree on the tyre front, based on that and Ferrari’s testing form I reckon Alonso is a lock this year.
