Sorry Epi – My research did not extend to clubs I have not heard of…
I am sure ‘Glebe’ are a powerhouse club just waiting for their chance at admission to the top flight. Once they are in I am sure they will dominate all the current clubs, but unfortunately we have to wait…and their drought will continue.

The Parramatta Eels now have the longest-running premiership drought

Actually I don’t think the Eels are in such bad shape. If winning a premiership was only about the ‘football’ they would be OK.
The problem the Eels have (Aside from the salary cap) is that the ongoing power struggle for control of the club is holding them back.
A simple solution would be a cleanout of the existing board and the installation a fully independent new board. However, I don’t know how the clubs membership would react to that…

Origin has 2 teams that are virtually the same each year in terms of personnel. Yet it seems to rate fairly high in everyone’s opinions. Perhaps if the nrl and the tv networks put as much marketing effort into the international games they could just as successful.

The taste of Test football

Yes. – end of comment

Will NRL teams start training for the nines?

As a kiwi, i obviously have more interest in international games, but I do like origin.
As the Kiwis are always underdogs it does make the wins we do get a lot sweeter and I do enjoy yelling at the TV.
During the WC final in 2008 I woke up the neighbours with my yelling at the TV
I agree with some comments here that over the last couple of years Origin games have become a bit dull, but I cant put my finger on what the cause is…

The Four Nations is better than Origin

“He spent a lot of the second half on the right edge”
Agree – But as a forward he should be looking for work (praticularly hitups) when the team needs some go forward, but he never moved.
Even when he did make the occasional hit up, after playing the ball he just stood there and watched the next play like a spectator… he didnt even attempt to line up for another charge.
As a kiwi fan I am happy he chose QLD/AUST over the kiwis – much happier with taumalolo

Papalii to start for Roos in Four Nations

I thought papalii was a passenger in the game against England, particularly in the second half. Australia’s depth is being tested here

Papalii to start for Roos in Four Nations

Its a shame to see him go, but I guess with 3 possible full backs/five eights on the books, plus Darius boyd coming and several other players able to play full back (Maranta, Hodges), somthing had to give
I wish him all the best, he has been a good player for the broncos so im sure he will do well at the titans.
Have to admit though I dont see the need to chase boyd, but wayne gets what wayne wants i guess

Josh Hoffman joins Gold Coast Titans

The best piece of advice I can offer for this situation, comes from one of those old email jokes I received years ago when email jokes were cool. It had a picture of an old man looking at me waving his finger and had the text: “STOP BEING A C**T”
Without a doubt this is the best advice the internet has ever given.
.
If only I had forwarded that email to Paul Gallen, this whole situation could have been avoided

Why is Gallen angry at the NRL for Noyce’s redundancy? Surely this is a Cronulla matter and nothing to do with the NRL.
Also I am sure that Noyce would have been fully aware of the changes that were happening within the Sharks structure (He may have even been involved) so I doubt this is a big surprise to him.
Gallen obviously ‘tweeting’ without thinkning – What a clown…

More strife for Sharks: NRL to probe abusive Gallen tweet

As a long time Broncos fan, I would prefer them to keep Barba and forget about Boyd.
Play Hoffman at the back with Barba on the wing, they can switch positions when on attack/defence.

Boyd is not worth the time/effort/money in my opinion

As the Sharks circle, The Pearl says Barba needs Bennett

I live in NZ so I guess we are lucky that we get all games live with no ads regardless of who is broadcasting it in Australia. We still get the Channel 9/Fox commentry but just no ads and live.
The downside is we have to pay for it, If you do not have SKY in NZ (Similar to Foxtel I think) your only option is the radio (for some games), the net or the pub.

Overall it is not very expensive, about $30 a month, but for that you get all rugby, AFL, NRL games and also a lot of other content.

I would have thought that even though it is the broadcasters paying the $1b for the rights the NRL should still be able to dictate some basic terms. i.e. all games live, all games HD, no more than 2 ad breaks per half etc

Everyone seems to be blaming the broadcasters here but I think the fault lies with David Gallop and the NRL for negotiating this crap deal. I think poor old dave was under such pressure to deliver a better/equivalent price than the AFL got, that he had to give away a lot of basic things such as HD content etc
If he had had the stones to tell Channel 9 to jam it, and taken an exclusie deal from fox or one of the other channels then not only could he have received more money, but most likley better quality too
However I understand that Australian law dictates that there has to be some free to air covereage?

Fantastic finish to Sunday arvo dulled by delayed coverage

I am a long time Broncos fan, and apparently every player who is off contract at the moment is supposedly coming to the Broncos, but if there was one player I could choose from the entire NRL for the Broncos to recruit, it would be Keiran Foran.
He does not get the wraps he deserves because he plays in a team full of stars but without him Manly wouldnt be where they are on the ladder at the moment.

Your team's Superheroes (Part II)

I agree, NSW won the series and good on them, however people should not attribute this win to the NSW halves pairing. NSW’s attack was ordinary in all 3 games, most of their kicks never threatened the QLD defence. At times NSW appeared to have no direction.
For example, late in game 2 NSW were camped in the QLD red zone but all they could do was pass it to Gallen & Bird for charges at the line. They eventually scored when QLD defence finally cracked but even Phil Gould was saying that their attack had no clue.
Dont get me wrong, Qld’s attack wasnt that great eiether, until Cronk returnred and showed everyone how its done.
DCE is Qld’s future but he needs a bit more time yet.
I am not a fan of Mitchell Pearce but I dont think Reynolds/Hodgkinson were any better than he has been over the past few years.

State of Origin Game III quarterly analysis

Not bad, but I would move Gallen to the second row, Parker to lock, bird to the bench, matt Scott comes in as the other prop with beau Scott and corner dropping out. I would put Hayne on the wing in place of Morris and put hodges in at centre

Kangablues or Kangaroons?

I agree fishes, although carney has made the mistakes now and will have to live with the consequences. This includes his convictions preventing him from getting travel visa to the uk. Time to move on I think, and leave Todd to sort himself out.

Could Monaghan's reformation have worked for Carney?

I used to sneakily throw my peas on the floor under my sisters chair, she would get in trouble for not eating her peas and get sent to bed depsite protesting her innocence.
30 years later she is still grumpy about it.

GURU: My first victory over Eric Grothe senior

If he debuted in 2000, then he was part of the broncos squad that won the premiership that year. Wouldn’t that mean he’s got a premiership ring?

Harrison confirms NRL retirement

I think that whilst Wayne Bennett has to take some responsibility for the current record he is lucky to be able to point to a resume that includes over 20 years of proven coaching success, 7 premierships, plus Origin and Test success too. There is no other current coach that can come close to providing that sort of history/experience. (Maybe Tim Sheens)
Therefore he can command not only an above average salary, but also extra leeway when the team is going poorly.
The Knights had been showing definite improvement over the past 2 years, but this year they have been hit by some extraordinary circumstances that would derail even the most successful club. Firstly they lost Alex McKinnon in a tragic and very public way, and then straight after that the clubs financial problems have reached tipping point resulting in (allegedly) unpaid wages, and all sorts of drama in the front office.
Hopefully now that the clubs ownership situation is being sorted out the team can resume their focus on their on field performance.
I think they may be too far gone to make the finals this year, but they do have some good talent there and if they get themselves right they can cause some headaches for those teams battling for the finals. For them to be able to do this they need a ‘great’ coach and no one can argue that they dont have one of the best coaches around.

When do coaches become accountable for their team's performance?

When Laurie Daley was announced as the new NSW coach I felt a bit sorry for him. A really nice guy who it seemed was going to be the next one to have his coaching aspirations killed by the QLD juggernaught. I didnt think he had the coaching experience to be given such a high profile job. But he has proven over the past 4 games that he is at least as good as Ricky Stuart. (Admittedly this doesent say much)
Whilst its early days yet, I think he has done well so far. Its a bit early to be calling him the greatest coach in NSW’s history, (even if he wins this series he will have only won 3 or 4 games) but he will definitely be the most memorable if the blues end the streak.

PRICHARD: Laurie Daley is 80 minutes away from history

He coached NSW in 2005 to a 2-1 series win – Sorry I thought it was earlier in the decade than that
He was then appointed Australian Coach in late 2005 and we all know how that ended

Ricky Stuart and the Raiders' last crusade

Who would have him though?, Surely by now his coaching record would be putting off any prospective clubs?
Premiership success in 2002, SOO success in early 2000’s but since then he has taken Cronulla, Australia, Parramata and now Canberra to new lows. Granted he did ‘improve’ NSW when he was their coach the second time, but at the ned of the day his winning percentage as a coach must be one of the lowest out there.
