I suspect there’s a bit of ARU payback in keeping Link from the top job…I mean, how DARE he turn down the mighty St Leonards overlords in their very generous request for him to lead the national side all those years ago…

Just a thought.

SPIRO: Ewen McKenzie should link up with Ireland

PK, bit rough on a few of the PI boys here.

How do you know Palu is “not articulate enough”…ever spoken to him? I have, & I can tell you he was able to put forward his viewpoint in a totally articulate manner, so I’d suggest you rephrase this or speak to him yourself! If you are refferring to his on-camera interview style, then perhaps he’s not as long winded as some other ex captains…But strangely enough I like that…Results on the board are what counts this year, not how good an “on-camera” talent you are!

& in that vein, I’d like to add – Anyone but Robinson!!

Cheika holds fire on Tahs captaincy

Agreed, Hoy…I’ve said in another thread that I (like most, I’m guessing), was a huge supporter of the move to get Deans. I mean, how could you argue with that Super record….But wiser heads at the time warned that Test matches are a completely different animal.

How true they were…

Depth critical for RWC 2015: Deans

Yeah I get all that, UA…But my point is this; We were missing at least 5 players (Genia/JOC/Horwill/Pocock & QC), who would be walk up starts if fit (leaving the QC recent episode out of this for the moment). This not only strengthens our starting side, but puts guys like Hooper on the bench…thus we play a MUCH better standard of rugger over the FULL 80 mins!

I mention this as the big guns are always made to be available for the biggest games (barring long term injury of course).

I just think this whole “group of death” crap is just that…

Depth critical for RWC 2015: Deans

Apologies if somebody above has already mentioned this ( at work, don’t have time to read all posts)…But I think this is the media beat up story of the year.

With a makeshift team didn’t we just beat Wales & England at their homes?

What are we worried about?

Depth critical for RWC 2015: Deans

This might sound hokey, but I was pretty impressed by the way in which QC won that Rexona Worlds best sports show…I know it was TV fluff at it’s best, but I saw something in Quade during that show which I’d not seen before…That real, intense desire to win…And I was impressed!

Look, we’ve all said and done silly things and I’m sure he regrets what he said…But to lose him from the sport would be even sillier IMHO.

Quade is now okay with me

Surely, there were at least 2 performances from the Wallabies this year that rated so low as to be included in the “Worst Team Performance” category…

No???

The Alternative International Rugby Awards

Deans has had time to mould the team his way, and it hasn’t worked. Time to move on Robbie…

Deans OK with Campo's comments

This is the easiest of all the pub debates!! Brad Thorn by a country mile…if only as he was awesome in BOTH Rugby codes for such a long time. Such a shame he didn’t play for Aus in both!!

And he’s playing S15 next year…what a freak!!

The world's top dual internationals

Or a #10…or 12…or 13!!!

Reds back in contention, but Waratahs need a cleanout

Chris/Elisha,

I agree with everything you say, so can’t help but wonder why he has coaches seemingly wrapped around his finger. I’m not much of a stats man but perhaps he does more work than we give him credit for?

I’ll see how he goes tomorrow night, but I suspect his best days are a few years ago now…(Happy for him to have a blinder of course, and prove us all wrong though!)

Elsom needs a Rocky Balboa performance

Clearly we’ll never agree on this, and I do accept that TPN isn’t as mobile as SF (but then what hooker is?)..but neither of you have mentioned the scrum.. (You know, that annoying set piece thing that the Reds were shown up in on Sunday.)

It’s easy to pick at ones faults, and surely there are aspects to his game that need work. But for mine, a top priority in a hooker is that he scrums the house down..and you’d be a harsh judge saying that TPN doesn’t do that.

Where to now for the Waratahs?

Jiggles, rl…you may want to think a little more about this, as it appears you have not.

Would you REALLY take S Faingaa or Hanson over TPN….REALLY???

If so, your powers of observation are (how do I say this politely?), poor!

Where to now for the Waratahs?

I’d take TPN over both the Reds hookers, any day of the week

Where to now for the Waratahs?

I saw that advertised last night too Blinky…I get the sense that it’ll mainly be focussed on the NFL/NHL experience (and the current class action suits taking place), but it has obvious similiarities to our contact sports as well.

Personally, it’s why I agree that Rugby is correct to maintain the ban on shoulder charges. The NRL maybe wise to do this also.

Waratahs await check on Polota-Nau

Seems pretty obvious that TPN needs to either refine his technique or take a break from the game. This is not bring alarmist, just realistic. He’s very popular because we all love the fact he plays the game so tough and of course the Tahs suffer massively when he’s off the pitch….but I don’t want to see him interviewed in 20 years and not be able to speak properly.

Waratahs await check on Polota-Nau

Same same!!

Great work Hodgo, top read!!

Lloydies producing outstanding young men and players

Agree with most, but have to add that both Hipwell and Gregan could be considered very unlucky…and I think (as most do here), that the all round brilliance of Tim Horan means he is a must if this is to be taken seriously

The immortals of Australian rugby union

Yep Brett, agree that seems the logical next step. With 7’s in the Olympics there’ll be a push to get more exposure and a curtain raising series of 7’s between the SANZAAR nations makes a lot of sense…of course, it’ll be a scheduling nightmare, but hey, that’s not our problem, we just come up with the great ideas!!!

Bledisloe Cup sevens in the wind

I like this idea, but only if it’s Oz vs NZ prior to a Bledisloe clash …that makes sense

Bledisloe Cup sevens in the wind

Johno, can’t say I agree with this; “Rucking players out, is what legends are made of and attracts people to the game”…the first 10 years of my playing life were spent either being the receiver or perpetrator of said rucking…and I can’t say I felt legendary on either side of the coin!!!

For mine, as much as I love the fiece, brutal nature of our game, the removal of the old-school, full on rucking is actually for the benefit of the game overall. By that I mean if the game is to grow, it has to be kept up to speed with modern day societal views, and I’m afraid that 1, 2 or 3 guys jumping on a bloke on the ground is not what a lot of people want to see and (possibly) influence the younger generation….(They could hang out at the Cross any given Sat night to see that if they really wanted too!!)

And as for the touch, pause engage – I can only say that after getting used to it over the last few years it works fine…But then, I’m a #8 so what would I know!!

Rugby is for the players, not the fans

…and on the harbour!

I like this idea, Brendan

New state-of-the-art stadium in Darling Harbour?

The SFS looks pretty big with only 17k Tahs fans…

New state-of-the-art stadium in Darling Harbour?

I’d say Link’s learnt to play the (coaching) game…

It's musical chairs in the Australian coaching ranks

I too was cynical about the Tahs buying Elsom (guessing he’d be unavailable for the 1st half of the tournament as usual)…But perhaps it was a masterstroke? Knowing how important it is having players rested throughout the campaign, perhaps the fact that the squads best #6 will be back soon will hopefully mean Mumm gets a rest (he’s been ok this year, and I’m not a fan usually), and obviously just helps if injuries hit.

With Dennis playing very well, Vickerman a possibility and Elsom looking likely for this week, the platform is definately strong up front. No back up for Taf though might be an issue down the track
