I don’t think that the location has ever been part of the official name of the teams.

Not for most of them anyway, and certainly not the NZ ones

Southern Brumbies could solve Australia’s Super problem

Giteau was at his best outside Larkham. After the stopped being a possibility, both he and Mortlock became mysteriously less effective.

The journalistic side of rugby broadcasts needs fixing

I can’t compare it to afl or NRL as I don’t watch them, but Fox treats Australian viewers like they know nothing. I’d rather listen to Justin Marshall doing a half time analysis of a game involving no Australian teams than watch people milling around outside an Australian stadium an hour before kickoff.

Sean Maloney should be restricted to the highlights segment of Rugby HQ, and certainly not allowed to commentate on a live game.

I would dearly love all of the broadcast partners to dump the idea of a “colour” commentator whose job it is to sound excited and say provocactive or controversial things (eg Murray mexted). There should be one expert, explayer and one main commentator and a sideline guy whose main job it is to report on sideline events and liaise with the sideline staff of the teams. The team doing the CHE v BRU game was excellent, mainly because of Joel Stransky’s thoughtful commentary.

The slide began under McKenzie. Its true that Graham has brought nothing to the Reds, they should have a new game plan, but it’s a a long term trend. Once everyone got used to the two plays that the Reds used, particularly in the inside short ball to the winger, it was always going to be tough.

The Queensland Reds must sack Richard Graham

That would be the only way either country would win regularly.

I’d recommend that SA and AUS start taking it less seriously then, they might start winning the comp regularly.

Are the NZ sides really in trouble?

I don’t think who touches it last is relevant. The knock on occurs when another player (Wilson in this case) touches the ball after the knock occurs. It never has to hit the ground.

Solving the knock-on puzzle

I thought he had a mixed game. Smashed off a couple of tackles, tried to deliver a tackled worthy of a red card on Liam Williams (lucky he ducked) and got himself yellow carded. Great game on attack though.

While he was provoked, he needs to eliminate the weaknesses in order to become world class.

The resurrection of Quade Cooper

You’re relying on Le Roux a great deal. I would have been good to see Fofana on the bench somehow, but someone needs to cover 10, and I don’t think Le Roux is really able to do that. I would say that Barrett would run Cooper close as a bench player. He did tremendous things against top teams this year.

The 2013 world rugby XXIII

This game has gotten a lot more interesting over the last week. Australia should still win comfortably, barring inclement weather.

Toomua blow leaves Wallabies in disarray

I’m not sure what he said is such a big deal. Basically he’s saying “make it a contest and you’ll get a reward”. If the ABs don’t want to make it a contest, then why should they get a penalty? It’s like obstruction: if it doesn’t have an effect, it doesn’t matter.

As an ABs supporter, I’ll offer the author my advice. Don’t whine when you win, it makes you look Australian.

Should Craig Joubert stand down?

The position/territory stat is a bit misleading for a lot of games as a team that can quickly score can rack up a lot of points, and if the opposition isn’t getting penetration they’ll chew up heaps of time going nowhere. It’s gotten to the point where the possession number isn’t an indicator of dominance unless the teams are otherwise evenly matched.

I want to get excited, Wallabies, I really do

Seriously? I don’t see anything here other than an observation. And there’s a smiley too. 🙂

IT’s actually quite normal for the ABs to have less of the ball and still easily win because they quickly score and the opposition then spins it’s wheels trying to get through the defence.

All Blacks vs France: International Test match live scores

He can’t. It’s a necessary part of any team’s game.

Wallabies woeful, then BANG, seven tries

And to quote the great man

“Sita does a great job in certain aspects of the game, his scrummaging is really well liked by the props, as is Rob Simmons’ and [Horwill] did much better last week,”

Which thnpen begs the question about Robinson. All answered in the game I suppose.

McKenzie names Simmons in Wallabies squad to face Azzurri

When you look at the gap between and optimal 6 and Simmons, it’s wider than an enforcer lock and Timani.

At least that’s my impression. By optimal 6, I’m thinking Messam, Higginbotham and people like that. Simmons is not quick enough and doesn’t have the skills. Timani “just” needs to try harder.

It’s an each way bet for me, but I reckon there are better 6s available.

Every province in the pack disgraced themselves last week.

Well, it’s either going to be genius or epic fail. I’m betting fail, but you never know.

Perhaps Simmons won’t prairie dog off the side of the scrum. I reckon he will though, at least he will if he’s been to back row training.

They didn’t against england. That’s the problem: sometime they play OK, sometimes terribly.

Dear Ewen McKenzie, we still believe in you

Given the abysmal performances, this article was always going to be written. It’s definitely way too early to be replacing coaches, but its appropriate for the discussion of “how much worse is it going to get” to be had in the media. That’s the nature of the beast, and given the intensely political environment of Australian rugby, it’s probably quite accurate. Some backroom boy probably is muttering into his beer about what he’d do and who he’d knife.

If the tour is a disaster (say, only beating Scotland and Italy) it’s still probably too early, although I would imagine the end of year review would include some extremely sharp words for McKenzie.

The bottom line is that next season has to be markedly better. I would say that reclaiming one of the Bledisloe, Mandela or TRC (can this be done without the others?) trophies is a minimum, and failure to do so would put McKenzie in serious jeopardy. The June tourists must also be dispatched.

SPIRO: Knives are being sharpened for McKenzie

At least not since the RWC 2007.
