Coaches get too much credit and too much blame.
Why we can't call Bellamy rugby league's greatest ever coach
No coach was a nominated. All coaches mentioned had some form of success somewhere else though. That’s the knock on Bellyache and point to the article
Why we can't call Bellamy rugby league's greatest ever coach
And that’s the point, isn’t it? He doesn’t have a great influence on the game’s results. Don’t’ get me wrong, he’s a decent prop, but he ain’t a game changer.
Has your club backed the wrong horse in 2018?
Yeah, the Dufty for Dugan was a good choice. Dugan’s try-scoring rate is ordinary.
Has your club backed the wrong horse in 2018?
Woods’ 200 metres, which he’s racked up regularly over his career, are not the same as a Taumalolo’s 200m. As far as having game impact, I’d say Woods’ stats can be questioned due to his overall wins record.
Has your club backed the wrong horse in 2018?
Agree. The sands shift quickly in NRL, which does say something about the evenness of the competition on a whole. The last few years the media’s blow torch has been on the Tigers, before them it was the Eels. Manly will survive and eventually the torch will move on to someone else.
Has your club backed the wrong horse in 2018?
I’m not sure if many signings will ever top Orford’s stint at the Raiders.
Has your club backed the wrong horse in 2018?
Exactly. Anything less than a top 4 finish for the Chooks will be seen as “underachieved”.
Has your club backed the wrong horse in 2018?
Woods is being paid on Super Coach stats. His play the balls are slow, his marker defence can be very tardy and was completely found out as a leader. He’s a decent prop but nowhere near the price tag he has commanded, as it stands now, I’d take Jems over Woods any day; you can find another Woods but could you find another Graham?
Woods, Teddy and Moses have made their beds. Now lie in them
Second article I’ve written where my thoughts on Isaac Moses have been edited or removed.
Woods, Teddy and Moses have made their beds. Now lie in them
True, it’s early. Think of it as prophetic though. At the very least I think the GF will contain an outright underdog, whether that be a club or an individual such as a Paul McGregor or an Anthony Griffin. At best there will be another Leicester on the cards.
2018, an underdog's story
Yeah, should be retitled to: “A fifth of the NRL season done, an underdog’s story”
Interesting though the Redsocks are 8 and 1to start the season, a feat they have never achieved, and have been in the MBL since 1901.
2018, an underdog's story
You’re right, wealthy was not the most appropriate word, but they do have very rich owners, have better access to third parties with deep pockets than some other clubs and been consistently in the finals for over 2 decades.
2018, an underdog's story
100%. His slow play the balls are ignored by the experts.
Wests Tigers 2018 season preview and prediction
Raiders will battle to get above 13th. They’ve recruited no one and have some internal divisions.
People are getting carried away with the Cowboys. They will finish 4th at best.
Titans will finish in the bottom half of the draw. They will be competitive but lack punch to compete with the top sides.
Newcastle certainly won’t finish last but they will be lucky to finish higher than 8th. They have bought pretty well across all areas except in the prop department. Their lack of experience and depth up front will hamper their chances.
Bulldogs and Souths will battle again this year. Bulldogs hopes are pinned to a fit Foran. If he doesn’t fire they are no hope of reaching the 8.
Cowboys hot, Knights not: My 2018 NRL predictions
Robbo still has some to prove. Flanno has done exceptionally well and with less than all of the others mentioned.
Is history repeating for Ricky and the Raiders?
Yep, backs against the wall mentality is not a winners mentality.
Is history repeating for Ricky and the Raiders?
Watch some of the games from 2014-2016, Teddy was setting up tries. He was one of the top 3 fullbacks for try assists last year, plus he actually has a handy short kicking game. Oddly, he has stopped passing this season. Watch him smash it when he’s actually caring.
Tame Tigers enduring their worst season ever
Good article Maximus. I never would have thought DCE would have worked out but I have been proven to be wrong. I did, however, think RTS was a poor choice.
Two coaches, two captains, one correct call
I feel for Nathan Brown, but The Barry your observations of Brown’s selections and his chopping and changing of player positions is something he has a history of. He applied this selection salad approach at St George and it ultimately backfired on him. It is the work of a bloke who is hoping for a quick fix.
Rating the rebuild: Is the Knightmare almost over?
“As I understood it, the idea was to prioritise local juniors. To blood a crop of talented youngsters, and let them grow and develop together.”
Personally, I would love to see this happen and for it to come off for Newcastle. However, as a Tigers’ fan, I waited for years for our local juniors to blossom only to have it all blow up in our face. True your front office is better than ours but even Canberra ditched the ‘juniors’ approach because of it’s own type of implosion.
Rating the rebuild: Is the Knightmare almost over?
Inglis underachieved IMO, but that’s a debate for another time
