Jardel? well he’s the most talented pie eater to have graced the A-League.

But as an actual football player his talent pretty much ran out about the same time he moved away from Porto in what? 99-2000ish?

Actually no I just checked it. It would seem his talent ran out after his stint with Sporting but for me and what I can actually remember rather than what wiki tells me, his hey day was certainly at Porto.

What would Beckham bring to the A-League?

The thing that used to annoy me at his peak was the talk of greatest winger in the world.Good player? yes, if a little predictable at times
But best winger in the world? Please, at that point the likes of Luis Figo, Overmars and Bergkamp were so far in front to look at them from a pure playing perspective David was clearly the next rung down.

I was more impressed when he broke into the Real first team playing in the middle of the park!

Anyway I digress, I’d love to see him here. Good for the league and I think also good for him.
If only to help some of these younger guys improve their delivery at the set piece.

yet to meet a humble number 10 😉

Quade Cooper isn't needed on the Wallabies 2012 European tour

Shouldn’t these stars wait until you’ve won 5 or 10 GFs?

Now's the time for Mariners to shine

Johnno,
Regarding Thompson, last I checked Belgium is in Europe? He managed to score a goal every other game there over 187 appearances for Lierse.
He was also a part of the 06 WC squad. He didn’t get any playing minutes but he was a member of that squad.
Sure he’s not my cup of tea either and I agree that he’s not the answer but let’s get it right if we’re going to bag a bloke.

How could I forget? the lawn bowls were especially riveting.

Friendship and fun: what the Asian Cup means to fans

Agreed.
It’s going to be huge. Biggest event we’ve hosted since the Olympics in my book.
Remember the lead up to them? Oh Sydney will grind to a halt, the trains won’t cope. Oh I’m going on holidays, Sydney’s too tribal to welcome the world blah blah blah.
And the actual event? Didn’t hear too many complaints from the locals or the visitors.Even the weather came good.
I didn’t get to Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide or Melbourne for the football (I’ll bet the experience was great) but I managed to get to the Aussie, sorry AUS NT ;), games played in Sydney and also the Spain vs Italy match. All were fantastic experiences.
I’m really looking forward to it.
