Good night of fights, you heard that the commission screwed up the score cards with the Johnson v McCall fight. It should of been a draw and gone to a sudden death fourth round. MASSIVE mistake. BTW It was a grubby audience out there, was quite embarassing to be Australian….

UFC Sydney: Alves vs Kampmann, flyweights live blog

Hi Stuart,
Was it not showing in NT, it was on 1pm EST on OneHD. Not sure about channel 10. Best way of checking the times is to head to ufc.com and click on how to watch on the left hand side of the home page.

UFC: Heavyweight Battle

I know right, I knew after the first round Diaz was going to take over. Talk about an angry GSP, I am guessing you also watched the post-fight press conference when Dana relayed GSP’s thoughts?. Probably the first time where the press conference actually overshadowed the main card.

UFC 137: Diaz and Penn to prove who's best

Not to be harsh to Mark Hunt at all as this is still the ultimate proving ground, I just think strategically the UFC has planned the divisions this way so they can put together a good variety of tiered fights on a card

UFC 135: Not so Super Samoan

Totally agree with all of this! Nice comments

UFC 135: Not so Super Samoan

I agree with your point Karen,

A few things to add:

Hitting someone with all that you have and not see him go down can be pretty saddening for an elite striker so I think Mark Hunt was more shocked than anything else.

There was the risk of Rothwell winding up on top as well, although Big Ben failed to secure a decent takedown during the latter stages of the match I was worried if Mark was put on his back as K1 fighters aren’t know for their grappling or their offense/defence from ground bottom position.

There are so many levels in the UFC and I am not just talking about weight division. In the HW division there are plenty of different levels of fighters, for instance:
Top Tier : Cain, Brock, JDS, Carwin, Daniel Cormier, Alistair Overeem
Middle Tier: Struve, Barry, Kongo, Travis Browne,
Bottom Tier: Mark Hunt etc.

nice article, I still think the injury crisis will get worst. I too just wrote an article that is yet to be published and would love to get your thoughts on whether it has something to do with the insurance policy Dana White signed. Old days fighters would fight through niggling injuries but now its easier to say no, collect your insurance payment and keep your record intact.

The curse of UFC 133

It was originally a rematch between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch, they fought to a draw in Sydney @ UFC 127. The winner was meant to be the number one contender for the Welterweight belt. Both fighters suffered injuries about a 2 months ago

UFC 132: Time to see Faber in the Octagon

How good was Machida’s ‘Front Crane Kick’, makes me want to watch ‘The Karate Kid’ again.

I think GSP will always be behind Silva in regards to the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world because of the statements you made above.

Yes he is good all round but he just can’t finish fights, something Silva has started to do in his last 2 fights.

UFC 129: St. Pierre versus Shields thoughts and recap

Nice prediction, I think we all pretty much got it right when talking about GSP winning be decision. You also have to remember Shields has an iron jaw- if you haven’t watched the Dan Henderson v Jake Shields fight do yourself a favour…..

UFC 129: GSP faces ground game of Shields

Fixed, thanks mate!

UFC 129: GSP faces ground game of Shields

Good point, BJ went from amateur to world champ in 3 years. I think this is going to be someone much heavier on the ground as BJ is a LW fighter and Shields has been competing as a middleweight throughout most of his career. GSP is going to have a bigger frame on him if Shields takes him down… if.

Now that you say it wouldn’t mind seeing Shields VS BJ if Shields loses this fight

UFC 129: GSP faces ground game of Shields

Apologies, shows my knowledge of Canada 🙂

To a point I agree with everyone,

I agree that boxers are still paid more than MMA fighters. One of the most outspoken fighters Tito Ortiz really brought this topic to the surface about 2 years ago when he attacked the President of the UFC about payments. Since then Tito went to a number of different fighting organisations before wiggling his way back into the UFC.
He is either come back due to the fact that every other organisation is the same or that the UFC is paying him extraordinary match payments (highly unlikely).

The UFC is a real brand and to build a brand and an organisation you need to have a strong business plan, structured roster and a heap of investment into the future. If UFC went the other way and paid fighters more than they had to they would not have been in Sydney, Vancouver or Abu Dhabi this year,

I think most fighters understand it is a growing sport, heck when most of them started fighting it was in the schoolyard or at a pub (certainly not getting paid for it).

Regarding the number of organisations starting: Yep there are plenty, I think this is healthy for the sport as it keeps the likes of Dana White (UFC) and Scott Coker (Strikeforce) honest when keeping the best talent, selling merchandise, selling tickets.

Let’s have the payments discussion in 3 years when the UFC has grown 2000% from where they currently are.

Yep they are the names I remember as well ‘True Tah’. You also raise a good point on Rivalries- something that Joe Silva (Fight Planner for UFC) strives to create with his current roster. George Sotiropolos is definitely a true LW contender and my prediction is that when he takes care of Kurt Pellegrino in his next fight we will see in Sydney for a title shot early 2011.

Mixed Martial Arts leaves boxing behind

I agree ‘Gibbo’ Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg have a fantastic following themselves. For instance when UFC110 was out here Joe Rogan sold out 2 comedy side-shows. If you want to speak about talent in the fighting rosters you have world class boxers ‘Anderson Silva’, ‘Alessio Sakara’ and of course Lights Out ‘James Toney’ in the UFC
