NRL Round 17: Three juicy talking points
To be fair to the NRL, they are ceasing the mid-year Trans-Tasman match, but hopefully they don’t merely move it to October.
Rep rugby league needs the full three rounds
If Reynolds can consistently find Inglis and Burgess and put them into the gaps than the sky’s the limit. On the other hand, injuries to any of those previously mentioned will spell disaster.
South Sydney back on the hop
Yes, The Roosters were so dominant during that period they could easily have ended up with three straight titles. Just goes to show how clinical (and lucky) you have to be to come out on top every time.
The Roosters' legacy is on the line
Yes, very hard in the modern era to defend your title. Manly were unlucky in that they had a great side for a number of years but there was always another team that would come along to pip them right at the end. They were certainly the most consistent side over a long period of time and they were very unlucky not to add to their two premierships.
The Roosters' legacy is on the line
Yes I struggled to keep up at times, they would always cut late to the close-up and it seemed hazy but that could also have been my eyes struggling at 1am!!
No need for panic as Socceroos overcome determined Tajikistan
I wasn’t saying anyone was panicking, my use of ‘panic buttons’ was directed towards the Socceroos and commenting how they didn’t resort to panic just because they took a while to score. Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Simon,
Great to see a hockey article pop up on the homepage, for too long has it been a sport that is out of sight and out of mind in Australia. I agree that the HIL is really exciting and a huge step forward in terms of professionalism but as you pointed out, the money we are starting to see on offer should mean a degree of caution be shown. It’s obvious that Australia cannot financially compete with overseas leagues but perhaps the solution to keeping our best players in the country and close to the Kookaburras program is by improving the AHL. I for one would love to see a home and away season, not necessarily long but similar to rugby’s National Rugby Championship. Getting out to see the Lakers in Canberra three or four times a year would be great. Of course there are obviously financial restrictions for such a concept. At the very least it’s exciting to see hockey enter into a brave new world!
Hockey India League: The new face of hockey
No doubt that Rose loves the club but something must have been going on (i.e. disagreement over the direction/philosophy) to have him leave. Either that or he wanted success, something he was obviously not going to get at the Mariners.
