I wasn’t surprised what the boys have achieved. Following them in social media, you can see how well the boys have gelled together. They are enjoying their time together and playing for a purpose. On the back of their jerseys, you see Kalawa 17 21 25 written. They have recently launched a program targeting this and the next 2 world cups, focusing on growing the game from an U16 level. Their next step is to appoint a coach who will be based in Fiji full time. This is what they are playing for. Their faith and their country. Look forward to the game next week. Toso Viti

I agree. I could only get a handful of tickets to the covered stands. I turn up and see the area around me 80% empty. They need to do something about the availability of members seating during such events. I would have gladly got another 5 people to the game tonight had seats been available.

League World Cup less hyped than Lebanese sausage

Love the naysayers that these posts bring out. I drove 250kms from Sydney to watch the Bati play tonight. I know a lot of other fans who are doing the same. We are enjoying this RLWC.

Great game from Klemmer so far. Cronk looks off his game. Hopefully he gets it right in the second half. Can’t see why Woods is still in the team. There must be a loads more forwards more deserving of a spot. The Aussies should be up by a lot more the way the first half went.

Australia vs England: Rugby League World Cup highlights, live scores, blog

Awesome game of cricket. When I got home from work today and switched on the telly, my 8 year old daughter asked me if more women’s cricket was on. She usually loathes me for watching cricket. This was the first game that interested her. Looking forward to the rest of the series. And yes – imho, it is only fair that we call it the ashes.

Women's sport weekly wrap: Australia lead the Ashes 4-0

This World Cup is not meaningless. Just ask any of the Bati players on how the last 2 weeks has been for them in Fiji.

Sport is more than just egos and money. For a lot of people around the world, it is a temporary relief from the everyday challenges that they face. Comps like the WC help to bring fans together in the support of their nation.

I know for a fact that everyone in the Islands will get behind their team, even if they have no knowledge of who the players are or the rules. I saw my first game of cricket when I was 16 (1992 World Cup) and now love the sport as much as rugby and league.

It’s events like the World Cup that bring awareness to sports and this leads to new followers of the elite comps that feed into it.

Yes there will be one sided games this WC but having followed the last 4 or 5 cups, the standard is progressively getting better. That’s a win in my book.

International rugby league? Be careful what you wish for

Couldn’t agree with you more.

Rugby in Fiji is heavily modelled of the nz provisional style system. Has been that way for a very long time. Change is that Facilities have gradually been getting better and we are now seeing a generation of players who have had access to gyms, coaching clinics, the internet etc.

What Australia needs is to build on the NRC. Change won’t happen overnight as a whole generation of players have to start doing the basics right.

The gap between the 40 or so top players in Australia vs the next tier down is massive.

They are saying it right. There is a silent n in front of the d in the Fijian language. For instance, Nadi where the main airport is is pronounced as Nandi

Well done by the Drua boys. To give you all some context, these boys are all from local clubs in Fiji, with some of them having to take time off work to play in the NRC.

Very impresssed by how they have gone

Fijian Drua vs Perth Spirit: NRC live scores

Long time reader of this site but have never commented. I feel compelled to do so now. I don’t see any logic behind this decision. Having lived in Perth for a few years, I have seen the potential for rugby to flourish. Huge SA and Kiwi expat community with rugby entrenched in their DNA. If played right, we could have an entire generation of rugby players develop in the state. I now live in SW Sydney and rugby has no chance competing with league or soccer here. Silly decision.
