Waratahs, 2nd tier rugby is the real home of rugby

Latu, I am a fan of his potential, but that doesn’t win games, just the reverse, many times his yellow cards, poor crucial throw ins, cost you the game, and I did last saturday.
Gibson, for all his NZ game experience, must know, a big kicker, like Jordie Barrett, turns the game, from defense to attack, if Jordie had been given the Waratahs role as the clearing kicker, I suspect the Canes would not have scored those last 2 penalties, to win the game.
The back row wasn’t so much the issue, but the big ball carries in the tight five.

Was the Waratahs loss an ominous insight into the year ahead?

What a shambolic situation, If he is proven innocent, heads should roll at FFA, for the total lack of “smarts”.

FFA hits back at Stajcic's claims

Russ,
Powerful stuff, but true

A role for White, but not as Wallabies head coach

If this comes to fruition, Cheika gone, then we “Roar whingers” should all sign a letter of thank you to Raelene Castle from the Roar Forum and be seen to be supporting her positive (at last) decision, we have all been asking for, or is that for the Editor to do?

Wallabies weighing up White stuff: report

Well said

Wallabies weighing up White stuff: report

Yes,
There is a light at the end of the “darkest”tunnel!
At last, sense prevails!
Maybe at last we have a Plan B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wallabies weighing up White stuff: report

here, here!

Lost: Wallabies’ game management nous

Exactly what i thought too.
I am a good guy who played shire grade, why not pick me, also?
S Marsh isnt going to get better, or change his technique at 35, so really unless he is a consistant stand out, then he shouldnt be there, certainly not for being a “good bloke”.
Marsh jnr is so hot and cold, he is a number seven and therefore should be bowling 20 overs a day, to test level, or he shouldnt be there either, again good bloke or not. He was out performed by a debutant with both bat and ball, can you imagine that happening to either of the Waughs in there earlier days, think not!

'They're really good young men and they're good cricketers': Langer on Marsh brothers

Yep

With pride on the line, the Wallabies must be 'no frills' in Salta

The Argies are an improving team with self belief, whereas we are displaying a disjointed, confused team with no self belief

With pride on the line, the Wallabies must be 'no frills' in Salta

A much better balanced side, with line out options, and definitely a better structured back line.
You then have the impact of Hooper, Koribite, and AA.
Why cant Cheika see this solution, a Nick Farr Jones as a director of coaching (he would never do it tho) or Graham Henry would certainly sort this confused thinking f Cheika’s. Cheika He needs strong direction from above or he needs to walk

With pride on the line, the Wallabies must be 'no frills' in Salta

You are correct there Bigbaz.
Hansen made a comment, “the game game style has changed dramatically in the last year” but Cheika is still plodding along with the same tactics and methodology of 4 years ago.
That shows he is not moving with the times or has any innovative coaching thinking. As observed by many loyal diehards on this site, “if it doesnt work the first time try again”, is his coaching style.
Very dumb thinking and RA are allowing it.
Tony Shaw didnt look happy at PE!
Do something about it, change the coach, whats the worst that can happen, we get the RC wooden spoon? We already have it.
Poor, poor, poor leadership!

Progress starts by fixing things that have fallen off along the way

Good comment and suggestion Wizard, probably add Gill to that list also

Cheika’s enthusiasm not washing over Wallabies

Agreed., spot on, the players are confused by the coach and that breeds discontent and fustration plus doubt on the coaches method.
This wallaby team looks more of a team down on self belief and motivation than enthusiasm.
Are they losing on energy level? No. They are losing due to poor poor tactics, decision making and execution, which the coach 90% controls.

Cheika’s enthusiasm not washing over Wallabies

Yep,
Describing Cheika’s results and performance; one step forward and two steps back, would be a good way to rate Cheika’s coaching.
A smart experienced international coach is needed at test level, and Cheika for all his passion and commitment, is not, and he hasn’t produced the goods.
Would a Lancaster or White, or Henry be a better option?

Michael Cheika's loyalty is now to a fault

I would add Thorn to a good brains trust, like Wessels and Cron.
Like him or not, he is a man of principles and standards, and if you cross them, you will play park rugby! No favorites there, just do the right thing.
He is a big believer of “none us individually is as good as all of us” on the same page, something that Cheika doesn’t preach or practice.

Fan abuse is never great, but the message to the Wallabies is clear

Well said Don, it maybe a small portion of player skill level but totally agree, with the comments, “simplify things, tighten up and play a harder set piece and territorial game”.
Hansen wouldnt put up with Beales performance.
Hansen wouldnt play our best forward out of position.
Everyone says Pocock is world class, would Hansen play him out of position? I dont think so!
Folau’s mark and kick, oh please, hoe embarrassing, and he plays fullback and doesnt even know the rules. That is 100% a coaching issue.

Hey Michael Cheika, it's time for a brains trust meeting with Macqueen, Dwyer and Jones

Cheika’s methods of coaching are not working.
Cheika says he is passionate about the Wallabies performance, but after Saturdays loss he certainly needs to look at his own performance.
If you listen to Hooper Genia, Pocock, Beale etc, you can see they are totally at a loss why they cant fix it, whereas, Read, Retalick, Ben Smith, Creevy, Kilosi etc, are able to “hit the nail on the head” why they performed poorly.
That tells me, the coach has the players unsure of the game plan.
I am not a Beale fan but he was a lot better in Super Rugby at 12, and I think Beale will not/should not play 10 again.
Apart from support speed, Toomua is so far more superior in all other areas than Foley, i.e. line kicking, goal distance kicking, tackling and a communicator.

Considering how poor Beale has played inside him, I think Hodge has done well, and is in improving every game at 13. Not too many other players you can say that about them, except Tupou.
Bottom line, Cheika needs to do a McKenzie and walk, but he is too arrogant I suspect for that!

Hey Michael Cheika, it's time for a brains trust meeting with Macqueen, Dwyer and Jones

Castle needs to remove Cheika from team selections firstly.
i.e. 3 man panel picking the best performed players for the position.
Cheika, then needs to make a plan that suits the team he is given.
Cheika then needs to tell his assistants his game plan A and plan B.
His assistants then come back to him with there game day attack/defence structure/style.
Cheika then put into practice.
That’s what the All Blacks do isn’t it, and it seems to work, so why invent the wheel again?
Then identify the coaching weak link or links and “on your bike”.
This crap of who we do we replace them with etc is crap!
It is common knowledge that the paying public are voting with there feet, and change has got to happen and happen now.
Another 12 months of this and there will be no paying public left! or viewers left.
If Castle needs help, I am sure there is enough Gurus on this site who would sit in a planning meeting for free to help her!

Tough to make a strong defence for Grey’s Wallabies gig

DHP dropped ball, for Barrett to showcase his speed and soccer skills, was schoolboys stuff. Very poor.
Did Cheika yank DHP after immediately after that or was he injured?

If we do a “Prime Ministers mid term change, (which we have done for the last 3-4 elections), who would we replace
Cheika with, Lancaster?
Need someone with set piece skills thats for sure, now Ledsma has left.

Banks need to be in this team for his sheer speed, no one can catch the NZ speed men once they have cracked the defence, especially out wide,

Bledisloe déjà vu, but were the Wallabies really that bad?

Hooper’s missing dynamism was certainly shown up last night, the everywhere man.
Miller played solid in fairness as his replacement no7.
Simon Cron is certainly has got the the forwards working as a pack, and i can see him going further as a coach.
Wessells must be so frustrated, the team has the players but not the team work for 80 minutes.
So disjointed in there decision making and process.

Beale and Foley pinch Super Rugby victory from the Rebels

Redondo,

Ninkovic and Mierzejews.

I a am sure Arnie, would put them straight in, if they were available!

Irvine a N0.9?

What worked and what didn't for the Socceroos at the World Cup

Unfortunately, since, Arnold, we have never had a world class No.9.
Cahill was a manufactured striker as no one else could score goals like him, and his many goals, have got us across the line many times, in crucial games.
Maybe its time, Arnold looks at converting Jackson irvine into a 9.
Juric just isnt dynamic enough, and Nabbnout, early days, but a hard worker, but not a goal poacher.
We seem to lose a big forwards to Rugby/AFL I suppose.
Arzani should turn into a world class player, but not another No.9 though.
We were not badly outplayed in any game, so congratulation to the Socceroos.
We just need to be better at goal scoring time, we created enough, just couldnt be clinical enough.

What worked and what didn't for the Socceroos at the World Cup

Plenty of feedback for Cheika by everyone, for his RC selections.
I thought he got it pretty close to correct, however……
Foley is never going to be world class, and only B grade punt kicker at best, no distance and no accuracy.
Unless we want to die wondering at the world cup, now, before its too late a change is needed.
Move Beale, to 10, as no other options.
Move Kerevei to 12 where he has more impact and better tackling skills,
Move Hodge to 13, as we NEED Hodge’s boot, for both line kicking and long goal kicks, this would create the pressure needed, and turn around the other teams.
Latu has certainly improved, by Gibson not playing him as first choice too!

Re Ref’s
Apart from Folau’s yellow, ( I hope it doesn’t deter him for competing), Folau pushed his hands into the tackled player, causing the lifter to drop him, I don’t think so, but ref was average but same to both sides,
whereas France had some real shocking game deciding poor decisions, by the refs, and they certainly can feel hard done by.

Re competing in the air,
“if both players genuinely jumping for the ball, play on, but no lifters allowed.
or dont allow jumping to receive the ball,
or once player jumps, then you cant contest it,
it needs resolving after the last couple of games being reffed, thats for sure!
IRC really need to resolve the situation, tackling the man in the air when two players both jumping for the ball.

Wallabies 55 points, Ireland 55 points, but Ireland win the Lansdowne Cup

Does anyone still remember the starting X1 from 1974?

What we’ve learnt about Van Marwijk’s tactics
