There was a great moment years ago where Umaga says to an Australian referee (I can’t remember who) “Its not tiddly winks”. I think this will really hurt rugby.

'Fabric of the game': Watershed moment as RFU brings in radical tackle change to reduce 'risk of concussion'

I cannot believe how badly we were defensively coached.

I agree with your opinion. I saw this on RA’s web site. It is the sort of thing RA should be trumpeting.

We have 2 people that have kids with Autism at our club. This is exactly what RA need at the moment.

Oh and you will have to copy and paste the link.

The rugby media need to be careful not to kill the game they rely on

Hi Brett, been a while, that was the Brumbies fans used to flock to. I think Arnold’s play was fantastic. He was a menace. I keep getting told Australia has no No. 10s, CL stood up, he looks back to his full fitness. Banks, geez it has been a while since we have had a player with his genuine speed, hope he stays fit.

Brumbies turn back the clock as Reds set their 2019 bar

I went to the opening game in the last RWC where England played Fiji. Obviously England won, but I actually thought the Fijians were unlucky. They had a few calls go against them when they were hot on attack and looking dangerous. In the game, Fiji were dominating the scrums, an area they have really improved in. This should be of great concern to the Wallabies after being demolished on the weekend.
I am also of the opinion that this is the 2nd pool of death and the Wallabies need to get their act together if they want to finish in the top 2.

How Pool D looks twelve months out from the World Cup

Spiro, here is an email i sent to a few rugby tragics:

So where do you start? Here is my take on the game:

1. You can’t hide 2 players in defence. Especially the 10/12. This brought Rona and Speight in as the defence. The Tahs used this tactic this year, how did that pan out? Why would you bring a defence methodology that was caught out at Super level into a test match? The ramifications:
a. They are used to defending out wide and with Kerevi going missing left space the Abs exposed. You can get away with it at Super rugby level but not in a test, especially against the Abs.
b. It left us vulnerable on the edge. So instead of having players that defend out wide we had players that normally defend in tighter. This was also exploited.
2. Foley has to go. Give Beale the 10 jersey. His kicking game is too short. His passing was average, take the pass that lead to Folau’s try. Woeful, we got a lucky bounce, notice “bounce”.
3. What is with the attack? Constant one outs, it was as if they were giving it to Folau and Beale and expecting them to do something. When we started using moves in the 2nd half we scored tries. Plus once 1st phase is over we looked lost. Think back even to the RWC, Giteau would orgainse a 4th, 5th move. Related to point 2, I don’t think Foley has that in him.
4. Was Hannigan on the park? He certainly is no Fardy.
5. Moore is less. He needs to hang up the boots now. Several penalties at crucial times, missed tackles. He is passed it.
6. My final comment, Hooper can’t be the captain. His referee management is not existent. He sounds like a whiney kid when he talks to them and they seem to brush him off. Also I don’t think he has the respect of the team. And lastly, he needs to learn the dark are of pilfering and stop playing like a 12.
7. Enough of the negative, on a positive note, the second row is looking pretty good. If they can stay injury free, they will be a good base for the scrum.
8. Speight looks to have started bring his Super form into the tests. Made some good yards.
9. TK looked good, I noticed when Rona scored, TK was the decoy and 2 ABs squared up on him leaving the hole for Rona.
10. TPN played well when he came on.
So what to do? Here is my team for next weekend (bloody hell it is at the House of Pain!):
1. Sio
2. TPN
3. Kepu
4. Arnold
5. Coleman
6. Not sure, need to see who else is in the squad. Maybe that Qld dude.
7. Hooper, only because I know Cheika will do it.
8. Tomani
9. I can’t believe I am doing this, Phipps, I thought he played his best game in ages, except his lop to the ref.
10. Beale, and defend there.
11. Rona
12. Hodge, can defend in that position
13. TK
14. Speight
15. Folau
Reserves:
16. AAA
17. Not Moore
18. Smith
19. The other Qld dude.
20. McMahon
21. Powell
22. Lance
23. Kerevi
There my 2c worth

Cheers,
Pete

Let's face the facts, the Wallabies were walloped by the All Blacks

i think it is a Roar problem, i have had errors.

Green won the toss so goes out 2nd.

I was about to write a similar article. i noticed in game 3 Foley’s clearances would not go out (perhaps a tactic) and would only go 30-40 metres but too low to get presure. This allowed England easy ball to get back into the Wallabies half. i have never been a fan of Phipps. For me like Brisbane Boys Hooper has some best ever thing about him. He needs to decide am i a 7 that will make an impact, or am i an inside centre? I agree with your Skelton comment, i thought Arnold was pretty good. He is a future star.

The good, the bad and the ugly of the third Test: Australia vs England

Hmm the GB team will make it interesting. i hope Fiji win. it will show that even small nations are a chance.

Rugby in Rio: What to expect at the Olympic Games

Can remind all of the Kiwis accusing DP of ONE offence of that lovely elbow to a hapless Carozza (75kg) by one Ricard Lowe (>120kg) while lying on the ground after scoring a try? At least DP admitted what he did and copped the penalty. Lowe? How did that go?

David Pocock thanks SANZAAR for suspension, shows what a bloody good bloke he is

I have had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times, spent a Brumbies V Reds game with him at our table. He truly is a great guy..

OK Brett i like your theory on teams the game after sacking the coach, look at the Brumbies, sack Nucifora win championship. Sack Friend, beat Queensland at home in their worst season.

Super Rugby tipping Round 3: Sacked coach theory

Could be the Force are looking at this as a game they have lost, put your 2nd string team out, protect the others from injury and save them for games they have a chance in. From memory they did this for the LIons on the last tour. Just a theory Would you say throwing a game, maybe.

Beale could do with some European rugby, sometimes it is good to go and play somewhere else to get experience. Look at Giteau, i had written an article about him just before he left. I reckon it did him the world of good.

I agree on the Super rugby comment. It has been one of the best i have seen I reckon.

Sad to see you going. I have been a little quiet on here for a while.

I didn’t realise you could reveal your name, just found the setting and have changed it so that hopefully it is exposed.

Good luck in your coaching.

FAREWELL ROAR: Bickering a symptom of troubled times

I have been thinking of writing the same article for a while. I am not sure why , but Hooper is just not there. and not saying he cant be there, but he is just not. And I am not questioning he captaincy skills, BTW. but he seems to get to the contest, but doesn’t have the same ability to fight it like McCaw, Smith (and he has to be one of the best), Pocock or even McGill. All those guys can hang without getting cleaned out.
I reckon this is a problem for the Wallabies. and if you actually watch the game last weekend, it was a turnover by Hodgson that saved a try and I guarantee if you watch the Wallabies V SA game in Perth, it was Hodgson that helped Beale win the game.

Hooper's not the best over the ball, so why say he is?

agree with the Beale comment. the ABs exploited his defensive flaws all game.

All Blacks dismantle Wallabies at Eden Park

While you are correct in not pointing out Beale was solely to blame. but every attack from the ABs went to wherever he was. They kicked early to get there quickly before cover can come over, they ran wide. in my humble opinion KB is not a starting player. to do that you need to defend in the front line. QC learnt this and can now do it. until that occurs, KB should be a bench player.

All Blacks dismantle Wallabies at Eden Park

Palu goes missing against big team. when was the last time he had a good game against the ABs, SBs or England?

All Blacks dismantle Wallabies at Eden Park

TBH your article appears Tahs focused. while that is a good thing, as when the Brumbies won their 2 (notice 2 🙂 ) SR trophies, the Wallabies were laden with Brumbies. But you seem to miss the fact that large backs use KB as a doormat. Basteraud did it, Nadolo did it, this puts the whole team under pressure.

I don’t know what games you watched, but Toomua is a great defender in the mid field. remember his dominance over Beale/Foley in Canberra earlier this year? Clearly not. he has to be either 10 or 12. my guess is that he will probably actually take a lot of the 10 responsibilities of KB to free KB up.

McCabe should have been a starter all year for the Brums, I just wonder if it is about managing his injuries?

I think the back 3 is interesting, it seems to indicate an intent to run. none of the back 3 are known kickers, by that I mean return kickers. I think this team is going to run it.

For that you need a tough player like Toomua to complement KB. look at the great Wallabies side they have all had that. Tim Horan outside Michael Lynagh and Steven Larkham. that worked just as Toomua outside KB will work.

What to make of the Wallabies backline?

Wow, not sure what you have been watching, but both those players have played well. One of the reasons Toomua is there is for his defence. I note that Basteraud walked over KB late in the match giving France momentum. Toomua’s defence and level head is needed. The real problem is that he needs a KB or QC inside him.

Toomua and Kuridrani don't cut the mustard

oops and again i jinx them…….
