Cricket nuffie (and nuffie in general)- Batsman for Melbourne Uni CC

So quickly dubbed terrible because it is not what we are used/ want to see. What a shock India prepared a wicket that suits them more than their opposition. If pitches were uniform the world over, the game would be poorer for it.

Did England have a bad wicket or just play bad cricket?

Nice one, Mary. It really is a shame that the exciting progress being made in the women’s game, and especially the exponential growth of the WBBL could be hamstrung by this decision. Hopefully, as you alluded to, it is a product of the bizarre times at the moment, and won’t stay this way in the future.

Women's IPL a squandered opportunity

Would love to see the Saints make a genuine charge at it this year.

Positives aplenty from the first half of the most unique season yet

Football as it stands is a lot more ‘normal’ than no football whatsoever…

Positives aplenty from the first half of the most unique season yet

It might not be normal, SimplySimon, but this season will be won by the most enduring, mentally resilient and deep-running list. All shortcomings will be laid bare. Forget the asteriks this year’s premiers will have fully earned that mantle and will be remembered for it. Hope you can enjoy football at some stage this year.

It’s a very good point. Exciting brands from all of them, and electrifying at their respective bests. Have we settled on a flag favourite yet?

Cheers mate- can’t wait to watch Rowell get amongst it in coming years.

Absolutely a godsend for those of us now in stage 4!

Also worth remembering that the AFL umpires are bound to the hubs, too. With new ‘interpretations’ of rules, they can’t train in groups as usual and it adds a further layer of complexity to creating the consistency we all desire. Not an excuse, simply a mitigating factor at the moment.

Lockdown fatigue setting in? 😂

Thanks, Peter. That Eagles Cats game was a cracker, hopefully more where that came from in the next 17 days!

Cheers mate. Yeah, as a Geelong supporter at half-time I was pretty pumped, too! It seems to me there really is a lot to get excited about in the competition at the moment; especially when there’s 20 days of it in a row!

Positives aplenty from the first half of the most unique season yet

Absolutely mate! Was writing this as Andrews was doing the presser yesterday, wondering how I’d fill the next six weeks if there wasn’t any football to watch or write about…

Positives aplenty from the first half of the most unique season yet

Thanks, RichieTiger. Can’t wait to get back to the ‘G to watch some matches whenever that might be…

Thanks for your feedbakck, Badmanners. The article, is not actually about doing away with the toss whatsoever. That is merely a debate that has emerged in the comments (which is fine, of course) instead the article focuses on the quirks and oddities of the game.
Cheers.

Cricketing quirks: The coin toss

interesting idea Maxy. Be hard pressed to find someone who thinks the home side needs any more advantage, but unsure how I feel about getting rid of the toss. I quite like that cricket has these little quirks

Cricketing quirks: The coin toss

Thanks, Paul. Nothing quite like the dross on the first morning of a Test match!

Cricketing quirks: The coin toss

Certainly not an argument to replace it, and definitely not with the bat flip!

Cricketing quirks: The coin toss

Thanks, Max. Still searching for (or happily avoiding) the answer!

Cricketing quirks: The rain delay

Thanks, Paul. Appreciate it. Agree that they’ve got a strong side and hope to see an improved performance in Sydney!

In a test of character, Williamson's New Zealand will not wane

Australia has picked a bowling line up that is well-suited to English conditions. Siddle was an excellent selection, and with Hazlewood and Pattinson able to rotate, it looks particularly promising.

Is it green decks or bust for England in the Ashes?

Good point. I’d completely forgotten about the Gutsy Calling ad, but felt totally the same way at the time. Has done so much right in the aftermath, however, that I find it hard to question his dignity

Steve Smith: Celebrating the man I condemned

Interesting piece. I am interested; what sort of dignity would you have liked to see from Smith over the last 12 months. Or perhaps more specifically, what did you feel was lacking?

Steve Smith: Celebrating the man I condemned

Kennett-esque assessment of security. Always happy to disagree with his premise.

Why I support the AFL's fan crackdown

I think we all know that’s not what we’re talking about here… I understand there is wriggle room that probably needs some ironing out, but most of us understand what constitutes offensive behaviour.
