The scheduling is annus terribulus –
Firstly – it needs to go home, away, home, away – repeat. SFC to start the season – away, three home, two away, two home
Secondly – One game Friday night, three on Saturday 5pm,7pm and 9pm (Brisbane and Perth with time difference can host the later game or 4pm, 6pm 8pm
Sunday 4pm
Thirdly – Wanderers at Jets on a Sunday arfternoon, SFC at Mariners on a Friday. We need to value away support, if a NSW team is playing another NSW team then make it Saturday.
Lastly – expansion. 10 teams is crippling. Get rid of Nix and bring in three new teams – that’s another debate for where (just not Southern Expansion Plastic FC)
The A-League is too good to be this bad
As a Sydney FC season ticket holder the draw is very very poor. Cant understand why we would not open the season with a home game. Then our first home game is the low drawing Nix on a Sunday at 7pm. We have a lot of junior blues members who wont be able to attend. And to be fair Sunday 7pm is not great for me either.
After away week 1 we have three home game in a row. Asking fans to back up 3 weeks in a row is a stretch for those with young families like myself. Round 3 home derby then a home game a week later, that will be lowest crowd of the season (well maybe or the the Nix on a Sunday at 7pm). Who comes up with this rubbish.
Also CCM away on a Friday night, just no consideration as per usual to away supporters for that.
Not one kick off family friendly either.
All up a terrible result for us.
2017-18 A-League draw revealed: Big Blue to highlight Round 1
Totally agree Josh. Add in a Friday home game 6 days after a home derby – just ridiculous scheduling
FFA Cup final loss must steel Sydney's finals resolve
Home, away, home, away repeat. Cannot be that hard.
At SFC we had a home derby followed by a home game 6 days later v Adelaide, then pundits and the gen pop wonder why our crowd was so low for the Adelaide game. Even myself as a member since version 1 struggle to get a leave pass (the joys of becoming middle aged with kids/responsibilities!) for two games 6 days apart.
Victory had the big blue on Australia day then a week later host a home derby, i think this had an affect on their Aus day crowd as they were expecting 40k and got 30k.
Can we introduce some common sense to the fixture list?
Good article Mike. Whilst i wasn’t of the mindset that we needed more games in the festive period i have thoroughly enjoyed having matches on most nights so wouldn’t be against having two match on a night etc.
One thing and i tweeted the a-league and ffa the other day (to no reply) is why are the mid week and Friday nights games in this period kicking off at 7.50…
Make them 6.30 or 7pm, really get the families in and market this period. People working can still get there in time and people not working or on schools holidays can also get there. It’s only for two weeks of the season and on those nights so shouldn’t be a big deal with foxsports to change a couple of kick off times.
Should we schedule even more A-League for the holidays?
Nice try…we have members all throughout west, south west and north west Sydney including Penrith, Campbelltown and the Hills etc (never agreed with the Mariners visiting Glenhaven football club though)
Go and follow Paul Reid on twitter and you will see how many school and football clubs visits out west SFC does.
Janjetovic, the A-League's first genuine traitor
You do know Sydney FC is a team for all of Sydney, we aren’t an East, North, West or whatever team…
Janjetovic, the A-League's first genuine traitor
Thats a pretty good promotion, be interesting to see the take up of those tickets and whether people would of gone to the game anyway or is it new punters…
But for non telstra customers still believe GA should be capped at $20 – bit like how there is cap for max price for an away ticket in the UK
Have A-League clubs got ticket prices right?
$30 for gen admin plus admin fee at SFS. Any gen admin should be $20 max, i don’t see that as devaluing, its better to get punter in the gate.
Great to see the Roar do a kids free. Always said specific games to have kids for a gold coin, pick the lower drawing teams and the family friendly times
My SFC season membership is about $17 per month so no complaints from me about that.
Enjoy the cricket, good initiative by CA to be fair.

Good read…who’s the other Johnny Warren medal contender?. Obviously Ninko but do you mean Brosque, Vukovic, Brillante, Wilkinson?
Expecting 18-20k crowd, 1v2, ffa cup final replay, weather appears to be decent forecast, would of preferred it to be at the SFS of course as would the club.
How Sydney can beat Melbourne City in Friday's big revenge match
No safe standing though from the sounds of it. Very shortsighted if you ask me

I don’t understand why this region is not being discussed more WCR, all valid points you make there and i have mentioned the population growth on other forums. Rectangle stadium is there with public transport. Seems a no brainer to me.
A-League expansion: Wollongong is the right call, southern Sydney is not
Hello, long time reader, second time poster,
This is a topic that i look forward to seeing what the FFA does. Good to have options.
I’ve been very vocal on social media in opposition about the supposed third Sydney side. Everything you say above i completely agree with.
Gong wont support the Shire and vice versa. If standalone in the Shire wont work, its in insular area (i live there so dont mean it with disrespect) so you have no opportunity for growth plus like myself there are many long term Sydney FC members that live there. And for a rugby league area it still only managed 14k in their first premiership winning year.
A-League expansion: Wollongong is the right call, southern Sydney is not
12k crowd hardly the greatest endorsement of the move to suburban grounds. Playing for second spot with no sunday league football or the nrl/afl to compete with. As a minimum 15k needs to be considered a pass mark, really only the Melbourne game at Kogarah with 19k would i give a pass mark on crowds. Point to note i have enjoyed the smaller stadia and would be happy we played at 25k venue but thats the topic of another conversation
Everything is going great for Sydney FC - except for the results
