You have to wonder how a club like Gold Coast can afford Hardwick. The only way is for the AFL to prop them up, the rest of the clubs are funding this and will doubt when Dusty signs on. Its in the expansion club playbook.
TOM MORRIS: Why a Dusty-Dimma reunion makes sense... but not for 13 more months
No doubt about it they were robbed and right in front of their own parochial fans. Crows Fans even in the best of the times have a massive chip on their shoulder regarding anything non-Crow. I went to a game 2 weeks ago at Adelaide Oval – the amount of whining from their fans has to be seen to be believed, even when they’re winning lol
Footy Fix: The Crows were stone cold robbed... but they've only got themselves to blame
Ace, my point wasnt that no-one likes watching netball or womens cricket, it’s that it hasn’t reached anywhere near the same level as the Matilda’s in the WWC. ie: women’s sport spectatorship in general is still not high and likely to remain so. The Diamonds won the Netball World Cup and the ratings where what?
Six Points: The ARC got Petracca 'touched' call spot on, and the Matildas lesson the AFL must learn
Hi Sheek,
Thanks for the info.
I don’t think Footyroos works, so unlikely to illicit the response you think lol
The Matildas have united a nation the way no other team can
Collingwood still seem to go to sleep for long periods in a game. They should be clear favorites, but something is amiss.
Pies cooked? Please - Why Collingwood are still clearly the team to beat in 2023
yep both the Cameron mark and worse the handball were clearly out of bounds.

The ‘Matildas’ has to be the best national brand name of any other Aussie side. Kudos to whoever thought that up, Brilliant.

if the game had not been a draw, it would have worked well. I dont think the AFL suffered any real brand damage (except in the minds of football zealouts) by turning the game off. Almost 70K at the game, who could have stayed home if the WWC was more important. Of course people booed, they wanted to know the end of the story. The game between Carlton & Melb had only just started, however it would have been very disrespectful to the players on the ground to be showing another sporting contest on the big screens. Be realistic. In the end it was a good compromise.
Rnd 22 of the AFL had 370K fans through the gate, the 7th highest of all time.
The Great Vine: Cortnee fires Matildas through to first ever semi-final after epic shootout win over France
Women’s sport through the Matildas is obviously on a high. The current events are extraordinary with a World Cup in Aust and the Aussies doing well. Whilst, its good for more women to take up any sport, I doubt it will remain a spectacle that keeps on giving. It’s like a fix, the Aussie public is on a high, but once you fall back to normality I doubt the overall mass interest will remain in womens sports. Both our netball and womens cricket teams have done very well, yet they only attracted modest interest from the main sports loving public.
Cathy Freeman lives in Folklore, the Matildas if they win will do likewise. The legacy is more sentimental than a fundamental change in what people love to watch in sport.

Gold. Brilliantly written. I await the nipple cripples….
The spirit of cricket was murdered in cold blood by sunburnt thugs - and the game might never recover
Not only would the Poms have loved to pull this off themselves, having tried on day 3., if successful it would have been cloaked in ‘Bazball’ folklore and fair game. Absolute hypocrisy from the English, who definitely have belief in they way they play, except they can’t accept defeat and think it’s only because they lost the two tests rather than Australia won them.
COMMENT: Cummins failed the moral test and tarnished these Ashes. He had the chance to be a legend and blew it
I think Brisbane/Gold Coast would definitely work. Plenty of expat fans, popular holiday location. Brisbane like Adelaide is striving for some limelight.
Adelaide is good, cant see Perth working due to distance.
AFL locks in Adelaide Gather Round long term after 'unbelievable success'
Poor Alan lol

Confidence is vital for a new coach and the players under him. Scott needs time to mould Essendon’s playing style. Far better to do that with a couple of early wins that provide some breathing space than be under early pressure for some success.
What to trust in the AFL after two infuriatingly inconsistent rounds
I think Cam is projecting a Richmond view of the first two rounds of 2023 😉 Inconsistent yes, Infuriating for Richmond maybe.
The Pies look great, reckon the Tiges season will continue to plod with mediocrity.
What to trust in the AFL after two infuriatingly inconsistent rounds
Pickett’s intent was pretty clear. In clear cut cases there should be a greater penalty for intent. If the AFL are serious about the long term risks of concussion they must consider dangerous actions whether they caused serious harm or not.
AFL needs urgent adjustment to concussion sanctions and player punishments
How is that getting carried away?
AFL Round 1 Power Rankings: Hot Pies, Carlton cold, Crows cooked, Port hits the spot
A 10 goal win is a 10 goal win. Bombers are probably mid table, maybe just in the top 8, too soon to know.

A team in each of the five major capitals is far more National than three by a long shot.
Why is constant expansion an obsession for Australian sporting codes?
100%.
Franklin has lifted that elbow a lot in his career and as a serial offender should have copped more for sure. It was not as bad as Pickett’s though.
Six Points: Kozzie's bump deserved a month off, draws are awesome, and the Pies are officially likeable
The AFL has created a rod for its own back with its ‘bump’ rulings over the years. Sometimes unintentional hits have caused serious damage and the offending player has been unfairly severely punished. It’s all about the result/damage, not enough about the intention. Pickett’s intention and lift off the ground was severe and he should have copped 4 weeks on intention alone.
Six Points: Kozzie's bump deserved a month off, draws are awesome, and the Pies are officially likeable
What a bitter comment. Tasmania is every bit AFL as PNG might be rugby league and without the obvious baggage of PNG’s crime ridden society. Tasmania is part of the Australian Federation.
They are separate cases anyway with funding based on different principles. Geopolitical objectives and sport sometimes co-exist, and good luck to whatever connections can be made with NRL/PNG.
Unfortunately, China already has their grubby little hands in PNG, like the Solomons they have big money to splash around and influence.
Football code wars are the least of Australia’s problems in the next 10 years.
Northern expansion: The Pacific, soft power and the importance of Papua New Guinea
Yes it remains to be seen if Barham can bring stability to the club. It’s off season so hard to guage, but a new coach & CEO appointed is a start.
Bombers apologise to former CEO Thorburn
The crowd baited Glover and he took it hook, line & sinker. It’s not a hanging offence, but worthy of a modest fine and suspended loss of matches. Need to send a message the players, or else some other idiots will try again & bait a player.

Lin, This is spot on, they will swim in the opposite direction to what they are being told. Boo the PM, etc. Plus the polls are very divided on this subject, the AFL on game day is better off staying out of it, beyond the stated position to support the Voice.
My heart says Yes, head says No. Do your own research as they say.
The AFL shouldn’t sit in silence: why it should support the Voice at the Grand Final
