I agree with you here. Symonds took the opportunity in a WC match when the team was in a desperate situation. Maxwell, if manages to do something similar, could well turn out to be a big asset in all forms of the game.

Interesting observation and a very good analysis, hasn’t there been a history of playing over 30+ in Australian Test teams..I remember Mike Hussey starting late. I am sure there would be others too. I feel as long as they contribute, no harm in picking them. Age, as they say is just a number.

It sure is a decision to be respected. His chances in the IPL would anyways be affected I presume, since Aus’s domestic cricket as well as international matches don’t clash with it. Even if international matches do, the overlap won’t be much. I have tremendous respect for Bailey as a limited overs cricketer, especially in ODIs, but it is hard to imagine him getting back into the Test side. There are a lot of youngsters waiting in the wings. When he got the opportunities, he did not make the most of them.

Apparently, World cup was always on Vettori’s mind. In the same interview by ABD that I referred to in this article, he also mentioned how Vettori being his team mate at RCB in IPL mentioned how his focus was to play for NZ in the World Cup. Against Scotland, he didn’t seem to be at his best. If he manages to do that, they will be quite strong as I said earlier.
