“there is no money is football”

quite possibly the stupidest comment of the day.

“Becuase it is boring”

Yeah the whole world is bar a few countries are infatuated with a sport that is inherrently boring.

Good points all round Mick

What is the Australian media's problem with football?

absolute tosh.

This season, the mainstream media coverage of non-negative stories has reached an absolute low.

The Australian newspaper refuses to acknowledge the game.

Just last sunday evening when Brisbane had just qualified for their second consecutive a-league final, it didn’t get a mention on the ABC sports wrap. Disgraceful

What is the Australian media's problem with football?

football fans are not thin skinned at all.

There has never been articles published falsely rubbishing a sport and the behaviour of its fans like the article in the melbourne newspaper ‘Soccer Fans The Worst’. Or the media gee up about the Australia v Serbia game. which actually had one of the smaller arrest ratios than most other sports.

What is the Australian media's problem with football?

mate, some good points made.

I accept the place of NRL and AFL is the two larger competitions in australia. This is justified by tv ratings and attendences. But when the media starts putting football last purely becuase it can then i get riled.

I love watching codes compete for prime position like in Western Sydney but i am sick of all the other codes getting a free leg up over football.

What is the Australian media's problem with football?

the initial headline was different. It was far more broad. The Roar mods made the headline about the media, which it originally wasn’t.

What is the Australian media's problem with football?

it’s a grat doco to be honest. It really was what life was like while i visited brazil. The people in Rio, Goias and Sao Paulo were all like Ramarinho…amazing players, poverty striken yet an absolute adoration of football.

couldn’t have put it better myself apaway

Why so little respect for Meninga and Malthouse?

I don’t think Meninga deserves repect. To receive respect you have to give it. Two cases:

1. Jose Mourinho is a manger with one of the best resumes in the game, yet his stupid rants, arrogance and tactics cause many to disrespect him.

2. Ange Postecoglou is one of the most repected and loved coaches in Australia at the moment. He treats every opponent with respect despite his highflying team and was humble in every interview despite the Roar’s incredible achievements under his guidance this year. That is why he is respected.

Mal Meninga however has spent much of his tenure whinging to referees, complaining about his media treatment and now a bizarre rant directed at seemingly every rugby league person south of the border. That is why i don’t respect him, and i’m a Queenslander, so i can imagine the firm hatred he has built for himself down south now.

As for Malthouse, well i don’t follow the game much so i can’t comment.

Why so little respect for Meninga and Malthouse?

the cattery, spain played beautiful football at the world cup. yes they generally scored 1 goal per game but they had loads of fantastic chances and the possession driven football and lack of long ball is what made them most people second favourite team. Don’t fall into the trap of measuring a teams quality or entertainment value by goals scored.

Things I learnt:

1. Kim Carroll is a very solid defender. She was one of our best players in the tournament besides from the awful mistake against Sweden.
2. Youth is good. Foord, SImon, Butt were all very impressive.
3. Sermanni makes poor player selections. Khamis was one of our best players against Equitariol Guinea, yet she never ogt on the park again. Especially when we were chasing the game against Sweden. This was very poor from Sermanni. Also he needs to have a more set in stone best 11. All the chopping and changing was hurting the teams momentum and cohesion.
4. We need another centre-back. Azunlar had an awful tournament. Too many long balls, poor marking and three amazing blunders costing goals. We need someone else thanks.
5. Heather Garriock is passed her use by date. She has a being a loyal servent of the game for many years but her ageing legs were exposed against sweden. Every time she got the ball she lost it, or had a lowsy shot or cross.

Five things learnt from Women's World Cup

it’s sad that this results driven agenda has taken over brazilian football. They used to be able to play however they wanted, sometimes they would miss out but often if they played the way they did in the 70’s or 80’s the result would take care of itself.

Dear Eddie Maguire. Stick to talking about what you know about, which is practically nothing.

“Land of the Fallafel”, jeez you an intelligent being Eddie. If it aint collingwood it’s rubbish seems to be his life motto

Eddie's soccer rant in bid to suppress AFL bid

must admit i was laughing at the pure dumb blindness of Jared Maxwell. That was a joke. There was seperation of the ball with the dragons no try, that decision was correct.

Can someone explain to me what the touch judges do????

They missed the foward pass, the missed Yow Yeh clearly having his foot over the sideline before he was tackled, yet the come in and interfere when something soft happened in backplay, or they call a flat pass foward see Pearce SOO game 1.

They are completely useless.

Youngsters star as Broncos down Dragons

touche Dean. All this drivel about NSW biased commentary is hilarious. Warren is neutral, Gould is NSW, Johns is NSW, Sterling is maybe a little NSW. QLD had, Wally, Fatty and a current QLD player in Shillington. They also used to have Tim Gilbert and Ben Ikin.

For god sake there is no bias there at all

Take a bow, Ricky Stuart, for your coaching magic

how can you complain about that. The amount of times that Thurston shielded Inglis from the chasers last nigh was ridiculous, at least 5 or 6 times.

Take a bow, Ricky Stuart, for your coaching magic

80,000 people to a game???? Suncorp only holds 52,000. And the crowd was 48,000. A very good crowd nonetheless. I really hope they get a home final, it would be brilliant for them

A-League developing into league of its own

and lockyer’s dangerous throw???? and the high shot on gallen?? you must have missed while you were complaining about the blues

Nine discussion points from State of Origin Two

NSW were just too good. Only four errors in the whole match from them.

One of the amazing moments was Lewis’ tackle on Cronck. The amount of times that QLD have made breaks like that and scored are very high. However, there were enough men back there to slow down the break and force a pass to cronck.

I thought Thaiday was one of the worst on the park last night. He must have had about 3 or 4 handlig errors and was outmuscled by Pearce an more than just one occassion. He didn’t seem to read the game well and often got in the way of the backs when he drifted out wide.

Well done to Ricky Stuart for showing the passion that Bellamy and Graham Murray never had. He really wanted it, and it rubbed off on the players.

Paul Gallen – one of the greatest origin performances. 80 minutes, from a foward?? Amazing. 232 metres 40 something tackles 1 missed tackle, 3 offloads and plenty of solid shots and tackle busts, the man is a machine.

Nine discussion points from State of Origin Two

forgot to mention that Price has broken a couple of players legs with his ‘chargedowns’ so he is hardly the family man saint that you claim he is

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

“you think it’s funny to see someone hurt.”

C’mon QLD fans have the same mentality, Hodges, Hunt Thaiday have all caused injury then dished out high fives, both states think an injury to the other person is somewhat amusing. Do you think the first thing that went through everyone’s mind when Weyman punched Daniel Conn was “Oh i feel sorry for Conns family”. Please, state of origin has some roughness about it.

ps QLD are even worse, a rare breed of sore winners

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

yeah NF, i probs would support a new NRL team in Brisbane. I don’t like the way the Broncos don’t want a second team. Is it out of fear??? Another brisbane team would bring a great rivalry. It was also decrese Brisbane Broncos talent pool becuase at the moment they can choose their players from the options of the whole city unlike in Sydney where there are 10 teams competing frok players

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

god i hate the broncos too, it’s good to hear another qlder he shares my disliking for them. Yeah, since it’s inception all the even and uneven calls have probably balanced out. But what has swayed my opinion is the last 5 or 6 years. And no it’s not just reereeing calls which have swayed my opinion. It’s the fact that the Qld media doesn’t acknowldege them as a good peice of help but if the blues bring it up they are ‘a bunch of whingers’.

As for the soccer nut, u wouldn’t understand the inception of origin claim, i do. The NSWRL used to poach all of QLD players to play in the competition. Tired of been left with dry stocks qld challenged them to a state vs state match which eventually turned into a series. I can certainly understand where the hatred of NSW came from becuase of all this poaching leaving QLD rugby league dry. But those days are over, time for a new approach. I’m not saying don’t hate NSW, i’m saying find a new reason to.

In regards to been favoured by the judiciary, that’s a lie. Thurston last year got nothing after blowing up at the referee with a series of expletives on the weekend prior to origin. No suspension at all. And he doesn’t have a clean record. Uate did have a clean record, yet was still very close to been suspended. Hayne was suspended earlier this year for nothing. That was the slightest headbut i’ve ever seen. I have never seen evidence of NSW favouritism by the judiciary.

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

A) I highlighted many attitudes by the players, the media and fans that have influenced my decision to swap, not just referee calls

B) I never said that Johns was a better person than Lockyer, don’t know where you got that from. Although i do beleive that Johns was a better player

C) The Johns drug scandal greatly diminished my respect for Johns personally, it wasn’t a reflection of the entire NSW side. Besides, i was still supporting QLD when the Johns episode took place

D) Don’t go pointing the finger at NSW when there has been the suspension of Wendell Sailor for cocaine use and a large cloud over QLD in origin 3 2009 for Stilnoxing. Drugs are present in players from both sides mate

E) Been a football (soccer) fan i didn’t really pay attention to rugby league in my teenage years. Although i did occasionally watch parts of the match, i watched my first full match in 2002 game 3, when i was invited round to a mates house to watch it. I was in my early 20′s at the time.

F) Never said that the blues are nicer, more ethical players. To have that in quotation marks is quite bizarre. Willy Mason, Andrew Johns, Brett White, Paul Gallen and Greg Bird are hardly role models. However, to smear the names of gentlemen such as Anthony Minichiello, Steve Menzies becuase they were part of the Blues when Johns was playing is quite lame.

I am not writing to bring up the entire history of State of Origin bad calls and grub tactics from both sides. i am commenting on what has personally made me change allegiance in rugby league. i don’t care if mark geyer elbowed some players in the 80′s, i am talking about now, what influenced me.

poor officiating??? i seem to remember a howler from Billy Slater costing them the World Cup final. Am i wrong??

sorry that’s right, Slater is one of your ‘God’s’ so he can’t be wrong.
