A rugby tragic for the past 60 years and now resolving to complete research into the synergy between and league and union - a subject that has caused annoyance every time a Wallaby switched but for the last 20 years seeing the trend going the other way. Rollo has written and broadcast rugby news on print, ezines and radio all over and is now determined to complete his dream of a "A Tale of Two Rugbies" into a book.

You are right to question this. I have taken the best case reported and as a rugby person being a little biased in hoping the best case scenario will become the norm at “around 45 minutes”.
An IRB report after the 2011 Super 15 competition. It quotes:”The time in play was 35 mins 30 seconds during the Super 15 compared to 35 mins 25 during the 2011RWC. The time in play ranged from 28.20 minutes in the Stormers / Blues game on 17 March to 43.77 minutes in the Brumbies/ Sharks game on 31 March and on only three occasions did the time in play exceed 50% of actual game time. The best of these was 52% in the opening game of the competition (Blues / Crusaders on 24 February).
