Rohit Sharma is named man of the match for his excellent 137, although he was dubiously ajudged not out when the umpires deemed that Taskin Ahmed bowled a ball over Sharma’s waist. He was on 90 at the time.

The difference between the two sides suggests that the result would have stayed the same anyway, although Bangladesh did put up a decent fight before falling 109 runs short. They’ll look back on the latter half of the India innings when their bowling wasn’t as potent as it was in the early stage of the effort. Let’s remember though, they’ve achieved highly in reaching the last eight.

Result. India 302-6 (R Sharma 137, Raina 65; Taskin 3/69) beat Bangladesh 193 (Hossain 35; Yadav 4/31) by 109 runs

Two wickets in three balls sees Bangladesh out of the World Cup, losing by 109 runs at the quarter-final stage.

India, meanwhile, go through to the semi-final stages and await Australia or Pakistan in the last four.

Yadav is back into the attack trying to mop up the tail, and he does half of the job as Rubel Hossain is gone for a duck.

Just as he was getting into full swing, Hossain succumbs to Jadeja as he picks out Ashwin at short cover. He’d just hit two boundaries off the same bowler, to third man and midwicket respectively.

DROP. Ashwin has his last over, and he should have had a wicket when Nasir Hossain cuts to Dhawan at backward point, but he puts down the chance and Hossain escapes. He has 16.

Oh crikey, where is the slip, MS!? The new batsman, Nasir Hossain the number eight, is spared a catcher and his wicket and it flies through the cordon for four runs. Hossain does have an ODI ton, so maybe I’m doing him a disservice.

FOUR more as Yadav gives a nice gentle short ball just asking to be hit, Rahman duly obliges and then throws his bat to a wideish ball that flies backwards of point for another four. Is this a turning point for the Tigers?

Umesh Yadav comes back, perhaps giving my fingers a little bit of rest! A slip comes in for him as we close in on the Batting Powerplay. Sabbir pushes for a single and Jadeja hits the stumps with his throw, flying off the zinging bails in the process, but the batsman was safely home.

In terms of spin, Jadeja is not getting a huge amount here but enough to keep asking the batsmen questions. Another good shot from Rahim, against the spin, bringing him a four square on the legside.

They’re not going down without a fight, I will say that of Bangladesh. An admirable quality to have. They keep the scoreboard ticking along with five singles from Ashwin’s penultimate over.

FOUR. Finally some release for Banglaesh, courtesy of Rahim who slog sweeps Jadeja to cow corner for a boundary. The problem is that the Tigers need two or three of those shots per over.

Ashwin’s turn again, hardly a second for him to get his breath back out there! Just one from this over as Ashwin toys for a leading edge but gets some patient batting.

Relentless, this, from India, bowling their overs like a barrage, giving Bangladesh no time to settle or any bad deliveries to put away. Jadeja continues, going for just a couple.
