Yes the regions were more literal and historical based but otherwise they become more debateable and abstract.

The data deep dive: who is actually the NRL's most supported club?

Yes it is difficult and based on 2023 snapshot data for recency. Yes support will fluctuate and because if this I provided a few different measures. The numbers are what they are.

The data deep dive: who is actually the NRL's most supported club?

There is an ESRI map I provided that was done by somebody else I based the regions on that. You can see the visualisation which shows the regions. It’s one of those things where you have to draw the line somewhere and some regions are of course debateable.

The data deep dive: who is actually the NRL's most supported club?

Dolphins are based on Moreton Bay and parts of Northern Brisbane based on the junior clubs I found that feed them

The data deep dive: who is actually the NRL's most supported club?

Roosters includes North Sydney as they have a feeder agreement

The data deep dive: who is actually the NRL's most supported club?

25/04/2023 Roosters d Dragons 40191
17/03/2023 Roosters d Rabbitohs 36639
10/06/2023 Panthers d Roosters 23610
30/03/2023 Roosters d Eels 20866
Roosters had some big games at Allianz

The data deep dive: who is actually the NRL's most supported club?

Yes Magic Round did inflate things but excluding Magic Round the Broncos vs Titans was 26563 and moved the needle up to.

So true, hit the nail on the head. It would actually be Super Rugby, the creme de la creme which was the original idea and worked pretty well until expansion.
Another aspect is that the 2 new teams are so far away from each other players get accustomed to moving it then breeds a relocating mercenary atmosphere for young players who original stayed put and followed a clear trajectory. Thing is if it’s a standard thing to move to WA from Brisbane then why not just move to Europe? If you are gonna travel for opportunities why not just got for the highest ones far abroad.

How a new NRC could help save rugby in Australia and what it could look like

If you know where these are publically available I will do a part 2

It's time for a national club competition - these teams have the biggest following

Very true. Bringing back and NRC is definitely important but the amount of cost associated and the way it disappeared makes me worry that it will never return whereas the Clubs will pretty much always continue regardless so atleast you bed down something that can sustain itself and the clubs don’t disappear like the ARC and NRC which killed the followings they were trying to develop

It's time for a national club competition - these teams have the biggest following

Bad error on my part, must have been too many Guinness that night before hitting submit.

Hunter Wildfires are not only in Shute Shield but they are coming first which is a great achievement

“It has been a very, very long time since the Wallabies have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. The results state clearly that this Wallaby Team for a number of years is failing.”

How is snatching defeat from the jaws of victory different to failing may I ask? Are you implying that the Wallabies aren’t even in the game to begin with? Since the golden era they quite often put themselves in good positions where they could/should win the game and almost always invariably give it away through silly unforced errors, general mistakes particularly against the All Blacks.

For example if the Wallabies are ahead of the All Blacks with 10 minutes to go I am sitting and expecting them to give the game away. If you are an All Blacks fan you are sitting there cool and calm with the expectation that the All Blacks will run them down and invariably this comes true most of the time.

How do the Wallabies regain the composure of times past?

Seriously interesting point. Today’s players might be selected on purely physically and athletically given the leaps in professionalism but on a mental level it is night and day. There’s something to be said about that “groundedness” that having a life outside rugby created. That “Better people make better players” philosophy.

How do the Wallabies regain the composure of times past?

Generally fascinated in people’s insights.

I forgot to put in that famous quote about the All Blacks that sums up their mentality “the All Blacks don’t lose they just run out of time.”

I feel like we once had that but now it has been lost and now it is so far removed from the current time period that it is more now like a mythology of a bygone era.

How do the Wallabies regain the composure of times past?

Actually it was a great game, the crowds loved it but unfortunately for you they were playing Union not League your allowed to push in scrums and other team is supposed to stop you. I don’t buy this complete obsession with crowds only loving back-line movements, crowds also love driving mauls and push-over tries in my experience there’s something quite spectacular about bashing through a team and demoralizing and dominating the opposition I wouldn’t call it dour it was pretty dynamic.

Brisbane City takes 2014 National Rugby Championship title

It looks like many things but I can’t stop singing it an an Anchor

Great article, its also worthy to note that Rugby will have the 2019 World Cup in Japan which is a huge boost to the international profile of the sport as the first WC outside the main/traditional countries. How exciting.

Set Australian rugby's phoenix to flight mode

What if it was like this?

How to make Brisbane City vs Queensland Country the best it can be

Money what money Queensland rugby is poor right? *cough* Karmichael *cough* James O’Bieber

I had an idea to play a Golden Oldies curtain raiser for something unique too but it mustn’t have made it through. Combine that with a big GPS game that would hit all bases!

Having a war cry, splitting the hill, push up boys, they already have a D.J, team songs, a booth for clubs, small community markets, creating two facebook pages, handing out flyers in the CBD, asking a legend to volunteer some time, speaking to the major’s office, starting a social media page to encourage the mayor/publicity. Every idea is bargain basement, tapping into the volunteer networks would be of minimal cost in my opinion.

Some these ideas are aimed to clear away the plastic and get some credibility.

I went to the Bond university Queensland country vs NSW Country and it was a bit sad but not impossible to change. The team has a really great strip and some great country players they just needs to reach out to the fans and very soon because its costing them.

As a Rugby supporter and an oft contrarian, I really enjoy the International Rules probably more so than I enjoy AFL probably due to the rectangular field it seems easier to get into.

I enjoy new and innovative concepts in sport and I’ve always found it quite interesting experiment and the games very competitive to watch.

Although It might also be that I enjoy watching MMA/boxing and often refer to it as “MMA with a ball” due to some of the spectacular fights that have occurred haha.

AFL aims to beef up International Rules series

I agree, begrudgingly I the Lions do definitely deserve credit for their never say die attitude in that game, they reminded me of the Force.
