so you’ve been to games in those countries?

World Rugby must do more to boost Pacific Island involvement

They were actually only a game away from qualifying for the 2015 world cup. But i don’t think that was TC’s point.

So no professional rugby in the islands is NZ and Australia’s Fault? All you need to do is look at the amount of players in the island teams who where developed by the NZ & Australian system to see how much they help the islands.

It is sad DavSA but unfortunate that is the reality. Yes with better infrastructure any nation will be able to produce great teams but when money that is supposed to be used for that infrastructure is pocketed by the government like it is in Samoa then what are W.R suppose to do? Keep sending money in hopes they may change their ways? Its hard to help those who don’t want to help themselves.

Thats just a stupid comment regarding Japan. They have been building over the years and yes their imports have help but it has not been the main factor.

Point 1 – is happening as of 2020
Point 2 – can happy under the Olympics loophole.
Point 3 – This would hurt the island teams a lot as you have stated most of the samoan and Tongan team are kiwis or australians.
Point 4 – Is a good idea as it works well for NZ and Ireland but it will be very difficult for W.R to enforce this considering the amount of money in club rugby now.

One of the biggest issues which have been brought up plenty of time is corruption. Money just magically disappears.

W.R tried to provide some advice with the selection of their new coach for Samoa. However Samoa decided to go for the same man who was criticised in 2011 for inviting his friends and family to the team hotel and using the money given by the Samoan people to pay for dinners.

We shall see. Rugby has the advantage of a well establish high school and university programs along with strong domestic club scene.

I see what you mean by a more simple game. League is similar to America football however that could be a disadvantage as they may see it as just another version of their sport without the pad. So nothing new or different.

But hey we will see

Battlefield USA: Rugby union versus league

2.4mil at one world cup – 300k at the other. choice is pretty obvious.

Second rate? lol. What does that say about league when even in a rugby league strong hold it fails to sell out its own World cup final.

Rugby is making plenty of inroads and is growing year on year. Not bad for a sport thats only been professional since 1996.

But keep telling yourself that the NRL is great yet crowds are down, teams are running at massive losses. Didn’t the NRL lose 53 million last year and the NRL are almost broke. Yeah great comp champ!

Battlefield USA: Rugby union versus league

The new New York rugby league team that they are trying to create are looking to play out of the Red Bull Arena which has a capacity of 25k. They have the money apparently but Im struggling to see how they are going to get any where near the 25k capacity for any games, they would struggle to get 10k

thanks mate. Germany is slowly getting better and better. The more exposure the better.

It’ll be interesting to see how China progresses with its 100mil investment

Thanks for that Keith. I didn’t actually realise they the had an existing roster. I simply assumed these were players sign during the formation of the team.

Should be interesting, either they are going to be in for a rude awakening as you said, or the team could have an advantage with settled combinations having already a full year together.

Battlefield USA: Rugby union versus league

The US is a massive sporting market with both codes being able to co-exist.

My question in relation to the other proposed rugby league franchise is where will the players be generated from? As 99% of the current Wolfpack squad are foreigners.

Does USA rugby league have enough domestic players to compete in the English leagues?

Battlefield USA: Rugby union versus league

Great to hear! Have they signed any players yet? As most of the other teams seem to have their rosters almost complete ready for preseason in January.

If that bond is $2mil then that’s great because it shows these clubs are serious and they have some serious investors behind them.

My mistake WCR the 500k bond was from the article written by the Guardian which was also post on the MLR website. Its exciting times for USA rugby. All teams bar the SD Legion seem to be very active in their recruitment. Does your contact know whats happening with them?
