If you keep your head when everybody else are loosing theirs, maybe, just maybe you misunderstood the situation.

In that case is very sad. As I said in the article Oz are ever so close to the Kiwi model with modifications of course for local conditions, and its such a massive advantage.

The ARU already pays such a large component of your top player’s salaries, which translates into a lot of clout and say in all matters. I can’t see any other Union even getting within cooee of it.

And trust me is not crowing at how well NZRFU has done it, they have and no doubt will make mistakes, but in this instance they got it spot on, and there is no shame in copying something that works, tinkering with it (possibly even improving it) and implementing it.

The Japanese have been doing it for years, haha.

New Zealand’s not so secret rugby weapon

Hi BB, my first article, rugby_phile here trying to desperately sort my identity crisis (on what my articles appear under) split personality at the moment. Arrrrhhh, technology!!!

Yes you do beat us more regularly than other opponents and may it continue. Although I always like to sit down to watch a Test match with a certain degree of confidence, I couldn’t think of anything more boring that knowing for certain we would win. And that certainly is not the case with your lot.

A bit too easy with our cousins across the ditch at the moment, and I think that is unhealthy in the long run.

I understand what you are saying Liam, but arguably there is no more intense rivalry anywhere than Auckland and Canterbury. But I believe that they comprehend that without a top notch national team to showcase the game, and in the absence of private fabulously wealthy owners to pay the players and coaches (heaven forbid), the game would go backwards in NZ at a rate of knots. So they co-operate.

Believe me in spite of popular opinion there is stiff competition in NZ from other sports, Union is dominant because it is successful, lets face it the masses love a winner, and they have been winning for ever with the odd hiccup here and there.

What concerns me and is happening now, is that the Australian public is switching off en-masse from Union, and it could accelerate alarmingly. Meanwhile from your comments above the band carries on playing on a certain doomed vessel.

My opinion is that the ARU as you describe them, will only come to their senses when the crowds/sponsorship revenues diminishe and their own existence and livelihoods are threatened, I just hope it won’t be too little too late. The fact that there were plenty of empty seats in Sydney on the 1st Bledislow of the season, in spite of all the hype and debut of a new coach is a case in point.

Got a great feeling about Luatua, I feel he is the next big thing off the production line, Messam has his work cut out.
