'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

Yes we will do this, there are examples around.

'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

This is an excellent comment and I think reflects the large majority of rugby people. I never hear of anyone who says,” What a great place rugby is in, how lucky are we”.
RA trajectory is dreadful, if we remain, status quo where do we get. Forget short term hits, they will happen, we need full on, long term structural change.
It takes guts, hard work and probably passion from the people involved but it can happen.

The SOARR have listed the problems and actual state of RA. The objective is for a new constitution with the power to elect a Board of the best of the nominated people selected Australia wide and voted by the rugby population. Not a closed shop nominations committee of mates, bankers and board operatives.

'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

These two comments are correct. The reason for the action by SOARR is because of in house nepotism and the closed shop of the Board election process. Australian rugby deserves the best Board possible and that can only come from open canvassing of potential Board members and a vote from the rugby population.
An absolute clean sweep.

Thanks and let’s hope the Member Unions agree and make a stand to get back to the rugby public who take ownership of the game, not the bankers and other operatives.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

There have been several attempts at a reset but nothing. There is much to be done, much coming on we can’t waste another year. I know daunting but the Member Unions must stand up and be counted.

Facebook.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

On field decisions etc is not what this is about. We are agitating for a new constitution and an openly elected Board.

The Board of RA needs people who understand what it will take to develop and implement a plan that can turn around the fortunes of rugby in Australia. That means skills development, coaching pathways, financial plan for sustainability, grassroots requirements and community connections. They principally need to understand the game and have a passion to see the Wallabies back at number one.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Well that’s not accurate and none now want to be on any Board. The request is for a Board elected by the rugby population, open and transparent.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Great, let’s galvanise, get the No Confidence vote, a new constitution and Board and get the grassroots and have rugby people reclaim the game. 100% correct.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

I don’t know and there well maybe some people from this Board who could make a good contribution. The main point is we are agitating for a new constitution and open voting for Board members. From there it is up to the rugby public to decide on Board members.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

The names have been published. There is no limit to six people. Have a good read of the documents on Facebook.

One of the jobs of the Interim Board is canvass the community for Board applications, there are many people willing and able to put their hand up.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

The way to get more money into the game is for the Wallabies to win consistently. The way to do this is have properly funded and well resourced skills program such as Cricket Australia. This takes time but is the only formula for sustained success. The Wallabies are the main revenue stream of rugby.

Good comments regarding Phil Waugh but I think on balance RA would better placed with him at the moment. There would be continuity and he does have good rugby knowledge. The comments are pretty true but his would be an admin role, not a voting role and he would be under the supervision of the Board.

How about knowing the game, working in some type of admin or committee position, being on the Board of a club. This suggests understanding what it takes to produce skilled players and coaches. Having a vision for where the game can go as time moves on.

When was the last blood letting, this constitution has been in place since 2012. All we have seen is some moving of the deck chairs.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Rocky, you are correct. We want the constitution changed to allow Board positions to be filled by the best people rugby can find. There are plenty of dedicated, knowledgeable rugby people waiting to be asked.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Robert, we have no self interest. No one is standing for anything just seeking change to the constitution and an openly elected Board. Certainly it will cause upheaval but more of the same has delivered and will deliver, more of the same.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Correct and what a shame. The Board of RA from the beginning of professional rugby has made some terrible decisions which have led us to where we are today. The constitution must change, we can elect a Board with broad rugby knowledge as well as business who can see and strategise the future.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

The names are published. There is no secret. We are not looking for any positions, we want open transparent elections.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Can I close this out by saying, I think both Phil Waugh and Dan Herbert are good rugby people who I believe have the best intentions. The issue is the constitution, the nominations committee approach has created a closed shop of Board members. This must change, RA needs the best people in Australia, selected by the broad base of rugby people.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Probably true but that reflects worse on the Board.
