I don’t think the fact that Manly’s 3/4s have so many errors is particularly relevent. I’d imagine they would have the highest touches in the league as well because getting the ball to the 3/4s has been a big part of the Manly gameplan this year. Lyon in particular gets a lot of early ball and Matai takes a lot of runs from dummy half as well as getting the ball from the halves. So I think it’s a case of the stats being misleading in that case.

I really wasn’t worried by what I saw last night as a Manly fan. It was a very soft win especially after losing Buderus and the Knights looked overawed. Manly looked fantastic on friday night and the relaxed way the players reacted to the win has given me a lot of confidence. Should be a good grand final but I think manly will be too good for them.

And how many of the Manly team were rep players before they were at Manly, Kite would be the only one wouldn’t he? I think Horo, Kite and Wolfman were the only players that didn’t debut in first grade for Manly and I think Wolfman only played one game for Parra. So it’s not like the chequebook has been opened and players bought to build the team, it’s juniors that have been developed by Manly. Cherry Evans was very raw when he debuted and so was Foran.

Done and Dusted he’s the captain, that’s what they do! Partly it’s gamesmanship to slow down the play and give their team a rest. He’s not a patch on Tooves though.

Great win but yeah that was no try to Tafua. I think our chances will depend on the fitness of Lyon and Stewart. We can win without them but I don’t like our chances really.

Good game to watch but there wasn’t much quality there. Too much dropped ball, no structure in attack and woeful defence at times. Manly will destroy both of them starting with Souths next week 🙂

Hird’s belief that other clubs were using banned substances seems to have been fostered by Charter and Dank as a way of encouraging Hird to use ever more exotic substances. I don’t think that Hird ever set out to give his players banned substances but he was very gullible and stupid and allowed this to happen by taking anyone who didn’t agree with the program out of the loop.

I think the problem with proving the allegation of Vlad blabbing is that unless Evans confirms that Demetriou told him that then it’s hearsay. No one but Evans and Demetriou actually know what was said. That’s why the ACC aren’t interested in it because Evans hasn’t substantiated what Hird has alleged was said.
I think the idea with all this litigation is to get the AFL to amend their charges to say that no PEDs were given to players and then Hird will say “oh well nothing bad happened so the punishment should be proportional”. I can’t see any other reason for all this drama (apart from Hird’s ego) other than that and threats to take Vlad and the AFL down with them if the AFL don’t cave.

I’d love to know what the redacted sections are! I’m shocked that they released it though, it seems Essendon’s relentless PR campaign would have had some bearing on the AFLs decisions to release the whole thing (barring the black bits).

I’m really struggling to understand how it isn’t banned if it falls under S2. It appears that all substances under S2 are banned. This is the WADA code:
“The following substances and their releasing factors are prohibited:
Erythropoiesis-Stimulating Agents [e.g. erythropoietin (EPO), darbepoetin (dEPO), hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) stabilizers, methoxy polyethylene glycol-epoetin beta (CERA), peginesatide (Hematide)]
Chorionic Gonadotrophin (CG) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH) in males
Corticotrophins
Growth Hormone (GH), Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1), Fibroblast Growth Factors (FGFs), Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF), Mechano Growth Factors (MGFs), Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), Vascular-Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) as well as any other growth factor affecting muscle, tendon or ligament protein synthesis/degradation, vascularisation, energy utilization, regenerative capacity or fibre type switching
and other substances with similar chemical structure or similar biological effect(s).”
It doesn’t say there are substances that aren’t banned that belong to that section and I assume that it falls under it because it regenerates muscle. The problem is it hasn’t been shown to do that in trials so any normal person would assume it would fall under S0.

They really need to go back to the old system where they didn’t prejudice the video refs decision. If the onfield ref has no idea why is he guessing by saying try or no try? I’ve seen a few decisions where it’s ended up with the wrong result because the onfield ref guesses the wrong way.

Lulz Rabbit. It’s all very strange given the usual masters of the universe vibe coming from the AFL hierachy. Demetriou seemed in a state of panic in the last week. Given that Hird seems to be trying to drop him in it with some very serious allegations about breaching the ACCs confidence it isn’t surprising. Everyone seems to be turning on each other.
The thing with the ACC Fussball is that they are only there to gather intelligence. None of what they discover can actually be used as evidence. And I wouldn’t be at all surprised if AFL HQ knew what was going on last year. It seems like it was a broom job, then the ACC came along through something completely unrelated and sprung them. Dank was sacked last year apparently for spending too much money, there were warnings about sports scientists, peptides and a whole load of rumours that journalists couldn’t follow up on because of legal threats well before ASADA were involved. And if what looks to have happened did happen it really does deserve ‘The Darkest Day’ moniker. It’s sounds very different to the usual doping story.
