Personally, I don’t agree with the idea of A-League or NPL clubs associating themselves with larger European clubs. It instantly decreases the A-League or NPL club’s potential of gaining new fans. For instance, would someone who supports Everton in the Premiere League, really want to support a Liverpool FC in the A-League? I don’t think so.

Just as a side note, thanks for using my upload in your article. 🙂

Let’s shake up the A-League

Maxxy, i’m not disagreeing with you, however without any statics over which sport is more participated or attended in the Illawarra, it is all up in the air. Heck, you could argue that Basketball is the number-one code, since the region has it’s own professional NBL team, however there is no real way of knowing. I am basing my judgement based on my own experiences. I have seen more people out and about in the region with a soccer ball kicking around than I have with rugby league. The junior matches are well attended and have strong participation rates and generally, you do see more juniors/seniors playing Football than you do rugby league. Just my opinion, anyway.

No to a joint Southern Sydney-Illawarra A-League team

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I really appreciate it. 🙂

Do you live in the Illawarra, maxxy? Explain your case.

No to a joint Southern Sydney-Illawarra A-League team

The FFA rejected the Wellington Phoenix’s application for a 10-year licence extension and their licence expires at the end of this season. It is now nearly January and there still hasn’t been any word on whether Phoenix will remain in the competition. I believe it is looking more and more likely that the Phoenix will be replaced by a new franchise next season, especially with all the talk of late of a Southern-Sydney based team.

Look mate, i’m not willing to start an argument. I really couldn’t care less if you hate me or this article. I created an article based on a discussion that I believe in and I am entitled too. Just because you may not agree with it, doesn’t give you the right to just bag out the article without offering any constructive criticism. You’re the one that started this, not me. You offered a valid response with your third post, but the rest of your posts were complete nonsense. There’s no need to result in personal attacks either. I wouldn’t of responded in the manner I did if you hadn’t of posted this..

“To use another quote from our fine author “It’s simply embarrassing that this happened, ”

Yes it is, sadly I’m not referring to the refereeing”

Grow up. There was no need to post that. You offered your opinion in the first post, without resulting in petty attacks. There was no need for that comment. I’m willing to accept criticism, granted that there is a valid reason to. Not when it’s just for the sake of it.

Refereeing can improve, quite drastically

Pete, clearly you did not read the article properly. Perhaps you need to take reading lessons. I never said that teams should get a special 4 points for these decisions. You’re wrong. I stated that if a bad call was made which ultimately resulted in the opposing team being affected in such a way, such as a try and/or penalty, then it can really be detrimental to a club’s season.

Also, who cares if the teams Guerra, Luke and Taufua were playing for happened to win the game. Does it really matter? I was generalizing the topic at hand and simply supporting my theory/idea.

You’re the embarrassment. The fact that you can’t even spell your name will capital letters (for your username) supports this. Before offering constructive criticism, perhaps learn how to read the entire article.

Have a nice day..

Refereeing can improve, quite drastically

Bit of a harsh article Tim. Yes, I may be bias, but Sharks still do have the opportunity to win the premiership, as does any team who are in the Top 8. You can’t judge their premiership hopes based on one performance.

PRENTICE: Gummy Sharks have become toothless terribles

Ronald, do you see the two letters at the top of this article? The HA? Did you know that generally means that the article is written in a light-hearted manner? We all know of your absolute hatred for the Sharks. It’s not meant to be taken literally.

Cronulla to launch investigation into recent on-field success

I apologize over my comments, however perhaps if you had of made your original response a bit clearer, so that your intentions were more known, a discussion would of been generated. However, to me, the response…

“Are there “too many” teams in Sydney.
There’s a high number. A disproportionate number even. But is there really “too many?”

…made it seem as though you were simply mocking and judging my comment without any substance. So as a result, it was perceived differently.

How to fairly reduce the number of Sydney sides

Yeah, because comparing the two words”too many” and “disproportionate” really gets the discussion going. Normally I wouldn’t result in posting such a ill-tasted comment and I apologize over my comment, however the way it was posted made it seem as though it was perceived far differently.

How to fairly reduce the number of Sydney sides

An AFL side calling North Sydney home. Pigs will fly before that happens Epiquin. But, I suppose anything could happen, don’t you agree?

How to fairly reduce the number of Sydney sides

Sounds legit. Why don’t we think about adding the Broome Bears while we’re at it?

How to fairly reduce the number of Sydney sides

Epiquin, there is no need to act like a smartass.

How to fairly reduce the number of Sydney sides

Epiquin – Clearly you have a hatred for everything I post.

How to fairly reduce the number of Sydney sides

Epiquin. If you don’t have anything constructive to say, don’t bother commenting. No need to be so sarcastic and rude.

How to fairly reduce the number of Sydney sides

Nice article TahDan. I actually created an article based on this theory about a month ago, but I got absolutely shot down for even doing it. While I agree with the principals you have suggested, personally I must admit that reducing the number of teams in Sydney wouldn’t entirely be a great ideal for fans, but the game itself. In the scheme of things, there are too many teams in Sydney, but how the idea would ever be put into fruition would be very challenging within itself.

How to fairly reduce the number of Sydney sides

Great article and I agree with all of the points you raised above. To be honest, I believe Fittler (in particular) and Johns would have to be on par with Gould when it comes to bias and general commentary. A recent comment made by Fitler during the Dragons 42-6 victory over the Sharks in regards to 5/8 Jack Bird was, “he should get a lesson and watch my son’s under-8 footy match. He would learn a bit from it”. What a foolish thing to say. It offered no substance at all and did not offer anything constructive. I’m not being biased here, but the Sharks 5/8 was actually one of the best players for the Sharks on the day. It was just Fittler’s mediocre and ludicrous view on a game which was destined for a Dragons victory. As I mentioned above, he never mentions anything constructive and is constantly fooling around. It is as if Channel Nine offered the role to a comedian, not a professional rugby league commentator/analysis.

In regards to Johns, he can actually be a really good commentator/analysis and is a great addition to the Sunday Footy Show. However, in saying that, Fittler is his downfall. Whenever he is around Fittler, he offers much less constructive views and opinions and instead, joins in with Fittler to act foolish.

Channel Nine's commentary has hit an all time low

Nice article, but personally I believe it is still a bit premature to suggest who will be playing for Queensland in 2020. It is still five years away and there will probably be players playing who we have never heard of yet!

The Maroon crystal ball: Who will play for Queensland in 2020?

What a ridiculous comment to make. This article Is based on facts and statistics, not my personal opinion or on bias. If you don’t like it, that’s fine, but don’t bother commenting if it does not offer anything constructive.

Why the Raiders are strong contenders for finals football

Why the NRL will never be a truly national competition

Yes, I have well and truly got the picture. I am wrong, everything in this article is wrong, my opinions are wrong. Ok. Nothing more needs to be discussed.

Why the NRL will never be a truly national competition

Just to clear things up for everyone.

1) I was not suggesting that the Dragons should be removed from the competition. I suggested that they should become entirely based from the Illawarra/South Coast.

2) I am not denying that Cronulla would be strong contender for expulsion from the NRL, however their recent approval of the Wolloware Bay project and their ownership of the stadium would make matters more complicated.

3) I mentioned in previous responses that the Bulldogs would be worthy of staying in the competition, if such an action were to be undertaken.

4) Personally, I am completely against the merging, removal or relocation of any teams. This article was written in the perspective of the NRL wanting to truly become a National Rugby League.

This article was only a open-minded analysis of the current situation of our competition. Yes, we have 9 teams based in Sydney, make of that what you will. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Why the NRL will never be a truly national competition

Again, i am not denying that the Sharks would be the first team to be culled from the competition, however their recent approval of their Wollowarre Bay development and their ownership of Remondis Stadium would make matters more complicated.

Why the NRL will never be a truly national competition

Not to be rude Bronco Juggernaut, but did you read the list of teams in the article? I suggested that the Dragons should become permanently based in the Illawarra/South Coast (Illawarra Dragons), not be removed from the competition. It would still be the same team as it is today, but it would be entirely based out of Wollongong.

I’m not denying that Cronulla would be a strong contender for expulsion, but their recent approval of the Wollowarre Bay project and their ownership of the stadium would make matters complicated.
