Good read ditraversaI

I find it interesting that my comments on other code’s threads are removed ad nauseum.

The treatment ‘The Cattery’ received (troll-wise) during his live call/blog of the GWS v Richmond game on the 16th of June was unacceptable in comparison.

Why no-one can win a code war

Cats looking poised.

Wow..what a qtr by the swans. In total control.

Hawthorn has Tasmania on their ‘guernsey’. Surprised the Hawks fans haven’t ripped down the stands at Waverly. Oh thats right someone else did that.

Why are GWS' crowds so underwhelming?

Tim. I am not overly concerned. I spent most of my childhood in QLD cheering the Maroons. I am a League lover. I enjoyed last night’s game immensely however I have lived in Melbourne for 20 years and am sharing some truths.
Sheffield Shield is the only national state v state analogy available.
Don’t take it to heart, take it on board.

Make this the last Origin in Melbourne

I love a good game of Rugby league, I enjoyed last night’s game immensely. If Victoria had a team involved I can tell you it would go off down here. But that is seriously half a century away.

Why Victoria should never host another Origin match

I don’t drive past Fed square on my way to work but if they invent a compass that points towards it I will pray facing it 5 times a day..haha.

Why Victoria should never host another Origin match

Sorry yewonk, was referring to digital, print and radio media. TV broadcasts were built into the TV deal. Not a supply and demand issue.

SOO will come to Melbourne and a lot of Melbournians will take an interest (including the media. You couldn’t change radio stations today without it being mentioned) and just as quickly it will be gone and they won’t really think about it until the next time it comes down. I think it is a fantastic promotion for the code but the general anti-Melbourne comments coming from up north (including articles like this) are not helping the code’s cause.
Media coverage in general is a supply and demand issue in each capital city. I travel to Sydney regularly and I would think AFL coverage there is about the same or maybe even possibly be less than RL in Melbourne. It just feels as though the author has his knickers all in a knot because they are not passionate about something he is. How passionate are you about a Sheffield Shield final if your State is not even competing? You’ll probably tune in to see a good match but the answer is zero.

AFL crowds and ratings are not looking too good this year. I blame the VFA/VFL Superleague war of 1896. They just never really recovered from that.

Giants prepare to christen new AFL home

K. Sheedy initiated the dreamtime concept. Basically the thought was: red + back + yellow = unity.

AFL chief says hands off Dreamtime clash

I was listening to SEN yesterday afternoon and David Schwarz was asked if he had ever suffered a concussion during his long playing career. His reply was an adamant no, not once. Later in the show a caller asked the ox something like “weren’t you knocked out in such and such a game in nineteen ninety something? Ironically his reply was something like “Oh, I forgot about that, that’s right I woke up in the change rooms with fifteen stitches in my head”.

The brain may be the AFL's greatest enemy

I was about 30 feet from that mark, on the fence in the pocket. I’ll never forget it!

Collingwood v Footscray. 38,000
Hawthorn v. St Kilda 42,000

Poor crowd figures I know. We will try harder.

ICF: Please post comparatively poor mid-season a-league crowd figures for all of us to compare?

Wow..maybe Bludger & ICF are the same person. What a shock.

Great article TC. Was a very enjoyable read.
I remember about 92/93 at the G asking someone next to me in the great southern stand why they aren’t bouncing the ball (after a goal). He pointed up at the red light to the right of the MCC members and said “they are waiting for the commercials to finish”. I thought “OK, fair enough”.
Also, in reference to the low scoring teams. I remember Andrew D in 2005 expressing his displeasure at Sydney’s low scoring/non-“commercial” game plan.
