I believe that if there is to be a third tier competition it wont be till 2012 and thats a no brainer because : 2010 - For a competition to be played in 2010 the aru would need to rush almost everything and their would be no time for the aru you to negotiatie a tv deal or organise it effectively for the competition to be sustainable and a long term competition, this is what the problem with the arc was that it was done with little thought about it's long term future and how it would drain the ARU coffers so significantly. 2011 - The ARU i hope have learnt from the Gary Flowers lead administration and wont start such a competition in the same year as a World cup which with the ARC was destroyed by because there wasn't the same Star attraction as their would of been with some of the wallabies being able to play in front of local crowds if it was layed in a non world cup year. 2012 - Almost perfect besides the fact it is so far away, but it does provide the ARU a chance to do alot of research into how to improve from the ARC and how to make this new competition a thriving and booming step up for the depressing state of rugby union in Australia, and to give the wallabies of tommorrow with a chance to be seen by everyone and a chance for a full professional contract.

i agree with simon and justin its absalutly nessessary that we need such a competiton and to stop it from draining high quality players from the shut shield we just play around october and november. this would create a marketable and ONE tv viable competiton which would kick start australian rugby. to keep the shute shield as good as it was ths year we need to continue to not run a australian A team and for this new competition with the 6 australian teams we can just run as the old NPC did but overhall everything and run advertising and market this new NPC as a family attractive game on fri/sat/sun and the existing Super franchises will be able to run themselves and the ARU barbarians will easily be able to form a team from QLD premier/shuteshield. all this will create a rugby competiton after a few years to be a rival to the NRL and AFL and give incredibly LOYAL australian rugby fans games in which they need and want ever since the incredibly xciting games of the old ARC and give young aussie rugby players a oppurtunity to be seen and develop at a higher level than club rugby and play with more experinced rugby players at the end of their careers. and most of all kick start aussie rugby to again become a the powerhouse it once was when rugby was on FTA tv.

i reckon that John smit doesn't deserve to be in there becuase he has become in recent years a captain and not much else besides the one or two shining , compared to some other hookers notably Sean fitzpatrick.
