I don’t know what has happened to Parra this year. They just look disinterested in having a genuine go. Something definitely wrong with the side this year.

I think Brad Arthur may be looking for employment very soon. I was predicting Kearney to be the first coach at the start of the year, how wrong I was.

Thank goodness we have someone at the top talking up the game in a positive light. Very refreshing to see also the off field incidents are non existent this year. I only hope that it remains this way throughout the year. As crosscoder mentioned, I too am waiting for the stooges that are Rothfield & Kent roll out the negativity for another year. You would think the Telegraph would support the game in a better light rather than the muckraking that they thrive on so much to sell papers. There are so many good stories this game and players produce but are never sold as such by those two idiots. I have stopped watching NRL 360 because of those two blowins. Good luck to all teams and here’s hoping for another wonderful year of Rugby League – The Greatest Game of All.

NRL hails scandal-free off-season

I believe JH will have a go this year and surprise a few people out there. As for Parra, nothing short of a top 4 will be expected from all parra fans. This could be our year?

Hayne plays fullback in Eels NRL trial win

The game is growing around the world. Yes the game is a minnow internationally but progress is being made. Check out www.rugbyleagueplanet.com
I get sick n tired of people putting the great game at any chance. The RLWC has been a runaway train with TV ratings. In 2025 the RLWC will be hosted by USA and Canada. Great inroads will be made into Nth America before then. Remember RL has the oldest WC of any football code and is steeped in history. Enjoy it for what it is, a great chance to promote the game but also giving every team a chance to develop the code in each of their counties.

Can all the naysayers just enjoy the Rugby League World Cup?

Great read Robert.

It is heartening to see dedicated people around the world spreading the greatest game of all. I read a lot on Rugby League Planet that has these type of stories. I am surprised there is no competition on the west coast given the population. The key to growth in America is TV coverage. What is the NRL doing about this, given we have the best competition in the world? It is the best game in the world to watch on TV. The other factor to take into account is the 2025 RLWC which hopefully will go to USA & Canada. That will make a huge difference to the game establishing itself there. I wish those involved with the game on the west coast USA the very best and I am sure there will be great support once the ground work evolves into fruition.

League in Los Angeles?

NSW need a big broom put through them. Daley, Pearce, Malone, Woods, Hayne, Dugan, Ferguson just for a start. It was cringe worthy watching them chase Qld all over the park. No direction, no heart, no hope. How good were Qld though. A true champion side. Loved their never say die attitude. The next generation are just fine.

Next year can we please allow the fox commentary team to call the game. Channel nine as so bias. At the end of game I am sure they were all shedding tears over another NSW loss. Mighty Maroons champions again and again and again. Keep repeating.

Hang your heads in shame, New South Wales

As a kid watching footy in the 70’s & 80’s at those grounds was special. I have fond memories of a packed Cumberland oval when Parramatta played Manly or St George. The atmosphere was electric especially when the Parra chant got going. All the grounds were special in their own ways. I do miss those Sunday afternoon games, especially when they announced the scores from around the grounds. The crowd was silent listening to the scores hoping for other results that would help your team. As a kid i always looked forward to the hot dog after the footy from the vendor outside the ground. Those were the days.

Half a century of rugby league: The grounds

Great memories reading this magazine from the 70’s. A sad outcome for this top magazine. Unfortunately we now live in a digital age and its demise was inevitable. RIP Rugby league week.

Rugby League Week calls full time, leaving an immortal legacy

For golden point the loser should be rewarded for a draw at regular full time. GP winner then receives the extra point. No winner one point each as per the draw. Couldn’t be any fairer.

There's no golden point to a glorified game of two-up

I like golden point as it has everyone on the edge of their seat and brings so much excitement to the game. The only change i would like to see is the losing team receive one competition point. That would be a much fairer outcome for all fans and clubs especially when every competition point is vital.

Broncos versus Cowboys, the greatest rivalry in the game?

Having lived in PNG it is a beautiful country and the locals are so passionate about rugby league. It is their national sport.

I too cant understand why this game isn’t televised or promoted the way it should be.

Our players are so respected and revered over there. We had the privilage of Mal Meninga visit my workplace un announced. The look on the guys faces said it all. It was like god decended from heaven.

I dont understand why the NRL dont take advantage of the free kick PNG citizens give RL. The atmosphere at any football game is electric. Seeing the pictures of the recent tour was amazing. They are so passionate about RL. Hundreds of nationals can be seen crowding televisions every time a game is played.

With PNG hosting 3 matches at next years world cup will be amazing. I urge everyone to experience RL in this country during the world cup. It will be amazing. It will be safe. While you are there explore the country. It truly is the land of the unexpected. The people are amazing. I will be planning a trip to PNG for sure.

I also look forward to having a pacific islands team based in the NRL within 10 years. Bring it on.

Why not broadcast the Prime Minister's XIII?

LOL. Dale Shearer – The Datsun 180B was a classic.

Thank God, the festival of the boot is back!

Good game. Well done Canberra. Played well with the injuries you had. You never stopped trying. Lee”s drop ball will haunt him for a while. Anyway, we now have the 2 grubbiest sides in the GF. It will be an interesting contest. I’m tipping Melbourne to grind out a win. Harold Holt wont be coming home next weekend to the shire.

Not the Cows night tonight. They are just aweful. Dont get too exited Cronulla. Melbourne will out grub you next week. Cant wait to see the porch light off again at Cronulla.

Its ok. The grubs will run out of steam soon. I wish Bowen would pass the ball to his winger. Reminds me of Jennings

Adding more teams to the current playing stock will only weaken the competition. I am all for expansion, but some hard decisions will need to be made by the NRL in the coming years. IMO 14 teams is the optimum number of teams with the initial expansion of the competition with a strategy plan after 2 years to expand the competition to 16 teams after investing into the 2 additional areas.

The elephant in the room going forward for the NRL is there are too many teams in Sydney. Some tough love is needed in Sydney. Loyalty and allegiances with clubs in Sydney are well entrenched, but eventually the hard decision will need to be made. If the number of teams in Sydney were to either merge or be allocated a continued presence in a second tier competition like a state league which could then feed into four Sydney based teams (North, East, South & West). Fans could still support their state team but also become new fans for either of the four Sydney based teams. There will be a lot of pain and suffering initially, but all teams grow supporter bases no matter who or where they are based.

This will then leave 3-5 teams for expansion:

Initial expansion teams
1 – Perth
2 – Ipswich
3 – Wellington

Second phase expansion teams
4 – Adelaide
5 – PNG (Cairns based training facility and HQ)

A truly nation competition would then be in place and would grow and prosper from there.

The NFL move teams and licences to suit the market. No different here. Do we look remain with the status quo or do we look at the big picture and more importantly growing the game into new areas and bringing new people to the game, but also keeping the existing supporter base in the game. A delicate balancing act for sure.

Rugby League is a fantastic game to watch both live and on TV. This game has been through so much pain and suffering at the expense of its supporter base. I love and have supported the game for over 40 years and will continue to do so. If we don’t look forward and make the hard decisions we will never grow into the number one game in the country.

My 2 cents.

Rugby league must expand or risk extinction

Great 2nd half Canberra. Great young side who who be in the top 2 this year. Great crowd & Good luck for the finals.

As a long time eels fan, i am surprised why we are not honouring the late great eels Ken Thornett with a black arm band. Disappoonted with eels staff for allowing this oversight.

I do like golden point. I would like to see golden try rather than the current field goal senario. Also the losing side get one point, and 2 points for the winner. It seems a fairer outcome for both teams.

NRL: No plans for golden-point overhaul despite pressure

Fafita is the biggest grub in the game. What a loser.

Wow. Great defence Qld. That will rattle the NSW side.

Daley just doesn’t get it. The sooner he & Bozo are sacked the better. The bro love between him & Gallen is obvious. They will be lucky to have 20000 there next game. Bloody Idiot & moron.

Daley to stick by beaten Blues in Origin 3
