That TEAM would give the test one a shake!

My Australia A team for England match

Amazing what two weeks can do. A while back I was giving Warner no chance for the Gabba, now he appears most likely to open up with Rogers. I have question marks over picking the left handers Hughes and Khawaja in the middle-order. They were clueless against Swann in the UK, and both are far better players when batting in the top 3. I’d love to see Bailey score Shield/Aus A runs, he’d slot in nicely at number 6.

“The blame hasn’t missed anyone…” – Throw in the carbon tax as well!

Postecoglou the man for the Socceroos job

Fine article Kersi, and what an incredible cricketer.

From teenage sensation to mature maestro, Tendulkar will remain an icon

They could appoint Sir Alex Fergusson or Jose Mourinho as manager of the Socceroos and it still would not make a difference. There is simply not the cattle within Australian football to succeed…. at the moment. You mentioned Matt Ryan, Rogic, Oar etc. These are promising players, but none of them would go close to making the Socceroos side from 2006. We have qualified for the WC, and that is the best we could have hoped for given the players at our disposal. I could see Holger’s sacking coming, but think he is pretty unlucky.

After Osieck, Socceroos need a manager with belief

Good pick up! A few months on I’ve finally seen this comment haha. Let’s just say… ‘Sports Stars Affiliated with Aus that divide us’ ?

Sports stars that divide us

Richie is right- club and SS are being sorely neglected. The first three rounds of Brisbane Grade Cricket were T20s, which both confused and annoyed me. Why not do what they have done in the past and tie these T20s in around Xmas and the Big Bash? Also, Sheffield Shield needs to start in early to mid-September, it is the only way to get sufficient long form cricket in before the first test.

Why can’t Australia concentrate on regaining the Ashes?

And on the issue of rugby, is it simply a matter of not having the cattle? Or bad coaching/ill discipline? All of the above is my guess…

Point me in the direction of rock bottom

What a nightmare of a year for Australian sport in general. The domestic football codes have been shaking in the wake of ASADA, and our international teams (Especially cricket and rugby) simply cannot win a thing. Thank god for Adam Scott, and the Socceroos (sort of), for saving some of our respectability.

Nice article. Let’s hope that a little common sense finally prevails…

One-clubsmen need to become the poster boys for the NRL

Another YES, but I expect you’re right MadMonk. He is very much irreplaceable in the Test side, and that’s where we need him the most. Would love to see him give up the fifty over stuff, even for the sake of prolonging his career by just 12 months.

Should Michael Clarke become a Test player only?

Michael Clarke went missing with the bat, doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be there. Harris picked up the slack anyway.

Australia's first Ashes Test XI, based on form

It should not be that stunning though. Changing room rifts and disagreements occur across all professional sports, especially cricket. Egos collide and this stuff happens. Matthew Hayden and Damien Martyn had a beef after Adelaide ’06, but it was more or less overlooked because the Australian side was absolutely dominating. The fact that the winning culture is now fading in Australian cricket means that these ‘dressing room bust ups’ receive much more media attention, leading to calls of ‘divided dressing rooms’ and so forth.

Did Hussey really cause rifts in Aussie camp?

Firstly, Nathan Lyon is the best spinner in the country. Secondly, Peter Siddle is our best (fit) pace bowler in the country. However, they are not from NSW, so maybe they aren’t good enough?

Australia's first Ashes Test XI, based on form

Hussey’s words paint a prettier picture for Clarke. Since before he debuted, Clarke has been depicted as the ‘Golden Boy’ – who polarised fans, and seemingly his teammates. Assuming that Hussey is being truthful, then Clarke has probably been treated unfairly. But it is the nature of the best after all, and I think it’s time to move on…

Did Hussey really cause rifts in Aussie camp?

It was a shame the Titans missed out. Cruelled by injuries, but they were very good at stages throughout 2013. The win over the Roosters in the late rounds was arguably the best they’ve ever played. I’m glad the undeserving Broncos missed out though…

NRL season review: Broncos, Cowboys and Titans

I’d go Faulkner/Henriques. Although Agar is certainly an all-rounder, what are his chances?

Australia's all-rounder options for the Ashes

Well said. It appears the Lions board have completely stuffed up by not securing Paul Roos before sacking Voss. Now, the promising and young(ish) 2013 players are scrambling for safer ground – and who can blame them?

2013 AFL season review: Brisbane Lions

Well I’m glad at least some agree with me!

Ben Cutting must be in the mix for the first Ashes Test

Mitchell Johnson: just who Australia needs this summer

If it weren’t for the mounting injury toll he probably wouldn’t be considered. But I feel as though Australia are going to have to win the Gabba test or they’ll be up against it. Rolling the dice on Johnson would be a risk, but a one worth taking.

Mitchell Johnson: just who Australia needs this summer

Maybe I spoke too soon. I thought he was closer to 38! But at 32, a couple of Shield tons, and an injury to Watson/Faulkner then he may just get the nod.

Australia's batting options for the Ashes

If Mcdonald is picked at number 6, I will streak the field at the Gabba on day 1. You heard it here first!

Australia's batting options for the Ashes

Watching Khawaja has been the most frustrating. You are right, he looks the best, and on shield form and technique he deserves to be there. But silly, out of character shots (and abismall umpiring decisions) have stunted his growth and confidence as a player. He needs to be picked at the start of an Australian summer, and he needs to be persisted with.

Australia's batting options for the Ashes

Hodge and Katich….. Optimistic, but I love it! Throw in Mike Hussey and they certainly would have a red hot go….

Australia's batting options for the Ashes

Yea fair comment by comparing him with Bevan. David Hussey could also be placed in the same category. But if Bailey can get big runs come shield season, a belated Test debut might be on the cards. You never really know these days…..
