i don’t question his right to earn what he is worth i question the way he went about it and his timing. Ask his teammates what they think, ask the mother that just paid $100 bucks to buy her kid a Sonny Bill jersey what she thinks. As for it being no different from a plumber, are you kidding? And your right matta if a coach walks nobody cares, thats because they are a one man show with a low profile that can be replaced with minimum effect. Players on the other hand have team mates, fans and a high public profile. Forget your rants about what the administrators do to the players and how unfair they are, thats no excuse to deceive and if you think that makes what he did ok, i suggest you check your value system.

Several reasons but no excuses for SBW

I haven’t been to a game for a while, but i know that if the NRL did some strategic weekly micro marketing, created a local “buzz” each week and had better entertainment more locals would turn up more regularly. They have to connect locals with teams better and more regularly, repetition is the key. I don’t know of any promotions outside free tickets to schools in Newcastle, but maybe its different here due to a big fan base. I reckon if i had a local budget of $3000 per home game and used it wisely on promotion and entertainment i could substantially increase bums on seats regardless of who was playing. Game by game promotion at local level, thats the way to go. Of course my teams position on the ladder would have some effect. The macro promotions are not what they could be either, where are the early to mid season “pump up”ads. Maybe i don’t watch enough tele but fair dinkum its all about the hype. And i would want 10% of the revenue over and above the previous years average attendance.

I would also have a 3rd party profit share agreement with the marquee players, hey i think we’re onto something. I’m off to the NRL, who’s coming.

Memo to the rugby league administration: the 'market' is us

Typical Mundine, this loudmouth Ali imitator and wannabe should have the supreme court put a national restraining order on his mouth, he is an embarrassment.

Who told Mundine that being a big mouth qualifies him for the court of public opinion.

Here is a guy who has a public persona less humble than Hitler and he has the hide to tell us that what Williams did will teach kids to chase their goals and dreams, yes it will, at anyone or anythings expense, good message fool.

He uses words like goals, dreams, racist, haters, critics and parasite because they are emotive, simple, idiot friendly and portray a victim.
No substance, no ethics, no thought. just words. He’s my brother so you should support him.

Well mate your “brother” just deceived every team mate, every one of those kids you were talking about and just about every other person that helped him become the “worth” he feels he is.

If “Mr Cloak and Dagger” tries to martyr himself for the good of the players it wont wash. The salary cap may be a restriction of trade but it does not excuse his betrayal or premeditated deception. But you wouldn’t care about that would you.

Why is it that every time a sports man is in trouble your around, let me guess, your such a wise person to confide in. No hang on , on second thoughts you use them to promote yourself, yeah thats it.

Last night was another disgraceful episode in your mediocre life, you took a call from Williams as soon as the fight was over, and then told us all ,why? Was it your way of telling us your important.

I knew who it was and so did many others your such a self promoting show pony.

Another anti-establishment bandwagon for you to jump on, another confused ear for you to manipulate, your so bloody predictable. Most morons are.

I hope the Yanks remember your post 9/11 comments and are good to their word on you fighting in the States.

Oh one more thing, if you had tried to stay on your feet last night like most fighters and not laid down, you would have been beaten.

But who cares about the honour and courage eh, its all about the win kids.

Yep he’s your brother alright !

Critics of Sonny Bill are 'leeches', says Mundine

It seems every time something honest comes out of someones mouth they are branded a sore loser or its said they are suffering tall poppy syndrome. Are we all turning into Yanks, have we too forgotten that everything we say does not have to be politically correct, that honesty is a positive thing. Thats how he felt and thats what he said Hooray for Browny. His post match press conference was controlled considering the way his team were treated,so it not about the loss. It is about copping a raw deal on the night, not playing the blame game and then having to listen to Billy Slater blamed Nightingale. I don’t blame him, not only did Melbourne start it and get off lightly, they then had the hide to blame St George after Saints said nothing. On the field if somebody grapples or chicken wings or shinbones then they are fighting, what are the rest of the sides to do, lay down. Melbourne steal inches and seconds illegally better than any other side because they concentrate on these tactics, and they keep inventing new ones. Other coaches try to counter but are getting frustrated at these tactics because they know where it leads the game. Melbourne have the lowest offload rate of any team in the NRL, i dont mind them winning but not at the cost of the spectacle, if every side did it to the extent Melbourne does that game would be a bore fest. Good on you Browny, Fittler and Stuart for taking them on.

Irate Brown warns of NRL bloodbath

Hey good folk at The Roar you have two thens together above, i am not being pedantic or sucking up, i just noticed it ok. If you think i have any other agenda your totally wrong. Ok then then think what you like.

The Armchair Sports Writer Award: the week 7 finalists are ...

Being a St George fan i have become accustomed to emotionally detaching myself from anyone or anything on GF day with the exclusion of beer. I watch the game in a pub somewhere with a perpetually nonchalant expression on my face, rising above the child -like enthusiasm of those around me. Then i go home and cry.

Second team syndrome

Thanks for your input Matt and others. Matt i appreciate your point of view but, Gasnier playing Rugby League is more than a job in many ways, not the least of which is the fact that Gasnier did not arrive at the NSWJRL with something to offer, he was coached and developed by them. Now in mainstream business this could be paralleled with an apprenticeship, however this not the mainstream market, it is a specialist and very public market. The point is that Mark Gasnier leaving the NRL for a competitor is much more impactful than Bob Smith leaving the factory. Non-disclosure and non-circumvention agreements between partners and employees is standard business practice. These agreements are put into place to protect intellectual property and the financial and resources investment that goes toward developing a highly skilled and knowledgeable partner/employee. It also also ensures trust, trust that means, if i help create a future for you, you wont use this knowledge to leverage yourself to my competitors and/or hold me to ransom, and if you do it will cost you. Let me ask you something Matt, if a family owned business gave you a go, nurtured you, honed your skill until you became close, would you walk out because unmitigated circumstances lead to a short-term contractual problem. I hope for your sake and those around you your answer would be no. The thing that bothered me was the haste with which he left, I’m sure there was a compromise or solution somewhere. Managers that successfully promote clean-skin acts or previously unknown artists factor in a loyalty clause that if not met can mean a slice of future earning, why not the NRL , “celebrity”or “brand” is what attracts third party sponsors to marquee players. As far as managers agreeing to loyalty or future earnings clauses, players will accept any reasonable deal early on to get a start, because without the support and participation under the NRL banner they are worth ZIP. If players want to kick off their careers in Rugby due to unfair NRL contracts, good, enjoy the excitement of club Rugby, just hope you get good enough to to make the Wallabies if its excitement, adulation, money and “brandpower” you seek. Take your chances in France or England as an unknown if your game, but do a butchers course before you go. What Gasnier did hurt the game in many ways, whats worse is, he knows it. To quote Mr Spock, “the needs of the many out way the needs of the few or the “one”. Lets try and keep some dignity, shall we.

Hand over the money, or the game gets it

Well mate at least your thinking outside the square a little. If your ideas are not adopted by the NRL, maybe your style of thinking will and something innovative will come of it. We live in hope.

How to stop league players going overseas

Talk about people in glass houses, did anyone ever see Tony Smith play? BORING as bat guano. Oh well i guess he’s still entitled to an opinion and he may even have a decent point. Teams seem to playing out of fear of losing rather than in an attempt to win. Guess who started the boring “statistical game”, you guessed it none other than big bro Brian, thanks Mr Control Freak. Still, we can smash the poms most days of the week. I’m more worried about losing the fans. Let me ask, is it better to play a boring brand of football and win or play flamboyantly and take your chances?
