There isn’t a Cricket Australia mandate for flat wickets to help the batsmen.

I would suggest that its each state association saying to the curator we want a wicket that will produce a Test match that lasts five days so they can make as much money as possible from their showpiece event for the season.

The WACA’s Test and Shield wickets are very different and Shield wickets there highlight some Australian players inability to play the moving ball. The amount of times sides get rolled at the WACA in shield games batting first is quite high at the moment.

This issue of the next captain is a massive one.

I wrote an article on Ponting’s slide and if he’s current poor form continues we could be staring down the barrel of a change of captain after the Ashes.

Is Ricky Ponting’s form finally on the slide?

Hussey, Katich and Haddin may well be too old. Katich did say he feels he has another two years in him at Test level and given his current form will get those two years. And as formeropenside said a two year term former an older player could then allow the next long term option to get in the side and cement a spot.

Clarke, North and White are the long term candidates, its up to them to win the race. White needs to get in the team and cement a spot, North needs to prove his ever growing number of critics wrong and pile on runs and I think what Clarke brings to the table is well known.

Stability in this role has been Australia’s strength, we don’t want a new captain every couple of series. Possibly two years of Katich and then select the longer term option then.

Who will be Australia's next Test captain?

Tasmania will get a side eventually, its just a case of working out how to structure the side. Others have suggested the North v South issue.

AFL wants 22 rounds, so 6 home games at Aurora, 5 in Hobart and then the opposite the year after. The side has to be united as one playing under the Tasmanian banner.

The NT team is going to be a lot further away.

Major issue for me are the weather conditions. Very hot, humid and it takes a lot out of the players, the Darwin side would have a great home ground advantage though, but could be very taxing and you wonder how long you could play in those conditions for. Could shorten careers or might find players will play for a couple of seasons and then seek a trade.

Best bet for NT footy fans will be cash strapped Victorian clubs playing some home games there.

Does the AFL care about teams in Tasmania and Darwin?
