As you say
How is it a sell out ?

Footy Fix: No Mills, no Parker, no problems - How Swans' new-look midfield beat the Dees at their own game

A crowd of 40k (doesn’t the place hold about 52k ??) would mean the members wasn’t full

If you drink at 7
Do you just stay up from the previous evening??

Aussies lock in XI for first NZ Test as Cummins mulls big toss call

One game

Rugby League but with contested scrums (no resets) and a 5 metre rule but zero tolerance for anything in a tackle not necessary to make the tackle (ie wrestling afterwards)

Just like the mid 1980s

Perfect

10 reasons league and union should merge to become One Rugby - and give AFL nightmares

In a parallel universe it would be interesting to see how many days Adelaide would sell out if played Boxing Day instead of having 2 days attendance in Melbourne.

And have CA and ICC (and BCCI) fund a tour by 2 “minnows” at same time where they play 2 first class games (and make it viable for states to pick a good side with extra cash) and an Australia A game before then playing a test followed by another first class game and then another test, while the Aussies play the other touring side and revert back.

A large part of the problem is the lack of preparation for the conditions.
England did it successfully a decade or so ago and gave us a hiding

Test Mortem: Adelaide shafted by schedule but pitch not up to scratch, Smith-Green jury still out, SOS to ICC for Windies

In the Australian south east summer really is Jan Feb and March
So no test cricket for most of the summer
Doesn’t seem like much of any cricket really

Australian cricket calendar overhaul on the way - shaking up summer to strike right balance between Tests and BBL

Quite easily the best I reckon ( in his family)

'Friendships I've made will last a lifetime': 576 and out for Shaun Marsh with 24-year career to finish

Isn’t that called Two Up ?

‘Is this a defining moment in the death of Test cricket’: Steve's right to be on Waughpath over pathetic Proteas squad

Maybe the keeper should bowl in their shin pads …just make it who has best fireworks …. Toss is boring

I prefer T11 where every one faces one ball and everyone bowls one ball
T20 goes too long

Albeit not an easy problem to solve but how about making test cricket more attractive to all.

Consider:
4 day tests – to push the game along and to reduce the need for a “road”
Different hours of play and different breaks – ie why a lunch break after 2 hrs play
No one allowed on the field in between overs – go field at fine leg if you are thirsty
Your gloves will survive 1 hr
Yes even you Steve Smith
Penalties for not bowling overs that are severe ie someone from opposition is not allowed to bat
Perhaps an in game Tactical sub

Those type of ideas

Well said Tony

Meanwhile, as if Australia are going to be queueing to play Afghanistan and Pakistan desoite scheduling. They will find a way out.

Why Steve Smith should not be Australia’s Test captain

Yep a 7 to 12 placed finish
To what end ?

Same players mentioned most weeks, they retain their place
Rookies on other teams shine

Collingwood can still have a positive year despite the Lions loss

The Pies may well lose to the Blues but there is no way they will lose to the Dwarves

Someone's season ends on Thursday night

They certainly were unlucky not to win in 2018

However it is now 2021 and the improvement is …….

Collingwood breaking

Thanks for the article,
As is often said by commentators on professional sports, if you havent improved by about ten percent each year, you are going backwards.
It was more of the same from the Pies, held together by a strong defensive unit. If other games are a guide then this style will not work in 2021. They also need to inject younger players who can actually play like everyone else can. Even if it takes them a year to find their feet it is better than going back to the well to players who never really were better than average.
The big difference to in the performances lies in who is on the cpaching panel…..hint, its very similar to the poor years.
And lastly, AFL commentators love to give the game strategy and thinking far more credit that what really exists.

Collingwood breaking

The best hydrated people at a cricket ground are the batsmen
No drinks allowed on outside standard drinks break, no new gear unless its either to receive or remove a helmet or due to umpire approved gear malfunction
If the umpire is in position and the bowler is ready and the batsman isnt facing up carry on
If you are a bowler and need a drink outside of standard times you go field on the boundary

Daily over rates in Test cricket should be abolished

Thanks for the article, Peter.
I know they say its scheduling but it would be nice for at least one 4 day first class tour game prior to first test of every series and televise it.
Good for both countries
Speaking of which, some TV highlights on free to air plus some appearances by test players is the only way there will be any interest at all, but it is more likely a thing of the past.
I have been to several tests in NZ….the lack of grandstands is great for a day at cricket, as is the ticket price and ability to buy decent beer and food. So perhaps there is something in that for the Shield

The diminishing tour and domestic matches

Wasnt he re-signed recently ?

The poisoned chalice: Coaching the Dragons

“More time for the Big Bash”
Better it just dies over next however long then if thats the case
Believe it or not, even today, not everyone has a ten min attention span.

The 100 over day x 4 days would possibly work and take less time if endless water carriers and glove changes were disallowed

A proposal to save Test cricket

I think giants forgot it was a final in qtr1
The Camry beat the Ferrari

On for young and old as Pies and Giants come to blows

Are you suggesting he actually spin the ball a few centimetres?
Makes you wonder how he dismisses so many Shield batsmen doesnt it?
Smith doesnt seem to have confidence in either spinner

Turner or Maxwell must tour India
