I hope the Demons do well, I would love them to do a fairytale unless my Pies can win it in which case I hope for a Dees Pies Grand final

More heaven than hell: Melbourne’s looming leap in to AFL contention

For goodness sake everyone, the girls are only going to improve with all the juniors rushing to join, coaching and admin getting better. Give them a chance to improve and one day soon we will have a female player who some will argue could hold a spot in men’s AFL.

Five quick takes from AFLW Round 1

Harry, don’t you think luck has a place in it all too? The Blues were in the finals a while back and beat Richmond I remember under Mick to finish what 6th or 5th? I think there is not so much that separates the top from the bottom. The ladder is the ladder and someone has to finish last, even your team, The mighty Bombers is it? They even finish last sometimes. I say about luck because I see luck with my team Collingwood. Two top ten picks a few years back we got Daisy Thomas and Scott Pendlebury and then we got our 2010 flag with both key members. Then a few years on we got Nathan Freemand and Matt Scharenberg in our top ten. Two young men who have had terrible injuries. I admire anyone who plays a single game and still wish Daisy all the best in his last couple of years with the Blues.

Who finishes higher in 2018? Carlton, Brisbane, North Melbourne, Gold Coast

Paul, I go nude at a designated beach in Mt Eliza or on quiet, secluded beaches. I don’t walk around naked all the time. That is a naiive comment from what we call “textiles”. I raised your name because you and truetiger attacked me from my first day here for simply commenting on footy which I thought was the purpose of this forum.

West Coast wildcard: Where do the Eagles fit into 2018’s AFL hierarchy?

Rob and Hard Harry, you could copy your comments from perhaps an article on women’s tennis back in the 1970’s. Your argument is in comparing womens footy to mens, just like they did with womens tennis back then. There were silly arguments and stunts where a d grade pennant tennis man would play Billy Jean King. No one advocates Hawthorn men playing the winner of the Womens AFL competition, that would be a farce. The kicking is an issue because of less distance hence increased congestion. I suggest less players on the field. reduce the numbers on the field and open the game up.

Two big questions that will determine the future of AFLW

Wow Paul! You lot are sooooo aggressive! What is it with your generation that makes you so angry? Are you frustrated at the world or is it the cloak of anonymity in social media you hide behind? I have been talking footy Paul. It was Truetiger who told me to leave and it was you who attached my reputation for no reason the other day. Others have been nice and welcoming so it is perhaps you who have a problem Paul, not me.

Gee thanks truetigerfan, how to make the only female in here unwelcome, is AFL footy on The Roar only open to men to comment?

West Coast wildcard: Where do the Eagles fit into 2018’s AFL hierarchy?

I love watching the girls play footy. From the three games I watched I was really impressed with their marking but thought the kicking needed work. The kicking was quite often a turnover straight to the opposition. I was also surprised how tough it looked! Their are some tough players out there!

Two big questions that will determine the future of AFLW

Ditto, I don’t believe it all rests with Bucks and Daniel. We have recruited very well with those young men coming in Stephenson who some rated as the number one pick. Also we got that other boy for 39 who we were prepared to give pick 6 for. Plus, we have a very fine young man in Jordan De Goey who is very strong and a powerful midfield and straight kicking forward.

Reasons your AFL side can be optimistic in 2018

Truetigerfan, you must be optimistic for your team after tremendous success in 2017. What a marvellous effort by those boys and Damian Hardwock opened himself up to the team which started it all.

Why so much anger in here gentleman? Is it all the testosterone? I think the mighty Blues will be just fine and may push for the eight this year. My humble opinion for what you all think it is worth, is that all the stars need to align for a team to push for the flag. I think there is not much between teams really and even the bottom team Brisbane could well beat the Tigers up in Brisbane. Paul D was nasty to me yesterday and stopped me commenting all day but then I thought I enjoy it on here so will try again.

Cornwill's season previews: Carlton Blues

Natanui sure is a powerful athlete DingoGray. I just love to watch him jump so high! I expect the Eagles may surprise a few as it was just a couple of years ago you gave us all quite the shock and made the grand final. I think Alan Simpson is a good coach, he played well for North many years ago.

West Coast wildcard: Where do the Eagles fit into 2018’s AFL hierarchy?

Paul I was wondering why you were so horrid to me yesterday for no reason? I have wanted to comment on a number of comments today but you have made me feel most unwelcome. Is it because I support the Pies?

West Coast wildcard: Where do the Eagles fit into 2018’s AFL hierarchy?

Paul, I was really taken aback to see you referring to me in a negative way here! I couldn’t quite believe why! I have been nothing but positive about my footy. I love footy. I am not a hater of any clubs, I admire them all in different ways. I admire the great clubs of this era like the Cats, Swans and of course the fearsome Hawks. I also admire the tenacity of the fledgling clubs like Gold Coast and GWS. I am a positive person and think positively. I came in here to talk footy and I’m not quite sure what you are saying about me above but it is not fair and makes me feel most unwelcome here. If I knew how to do a sad face I would make it here.

Sydney can finally move on from black Swan Tippett

I think people need to realise it is very difficult to win a flag and their coach Michael Bolton seems the right man for the task. You need all the stars aligned just like Richmond and the Doggies past two years. We all can’t be a Hawthorn you know. Only Hawthorn, the Cats and the Swans have won multiple flags since 2005 I think? Besides that my Pies boys got close but came up against the powerful Cats in 2011.
The Blues are in a low spell it seems but will bounce back. It looked like Mick was going to take them all the way not so long agao but then the wheels fell off I suppose. What a great club they are though, sure to be back in finals next few years Blues fans. Sign up and support your wonderful club.

what about your side Don Freo. I watched you get quite close a few years back and I think Gary Lyon is a good coach.

Geelong is 2018’s most intriguing AFL premiership contender

That’s a great question Kavvy, worse thing is we used to live in Port Melbourne too nbefore I moved down to Mt Eliza! Basically my best three girlfriends in primary school were all Pies fans and they won me over. I admire the Swans so much though. I admire lots of teams and don’t have any ‘hate’ for other sides like some. I just love to watch the footy in Winter and go down the beach in Summer.

I know Achilles Paul, didn’t Agamemnon play centre half back for Footscray back in the day?

Geelong is 2018’s most intriguing AFL premiership contender

Thanks Kavvy! I can tell you I would be so happy to just make the eight that bowing out in the first week would still be ok with me. I just get jealous each finals series wishing my boys could be out there. I too think Richmond will be up there again and also wonder how long Sydney can keep making it too! What an amazing club they are. My grandfather played a handful of games for the old South Melbourne so I have a soft spot for the Swans too.

Geelong is 2018’s most intriguing AFL premiership contender

oh Andy112 that seems a trifle harsh on the Cats? I wish my Pies were in the finals each year as at least they would have a chance each year? Finals are a bit like survival of the fittest don’t you think? The side in the best shape injury wise usually wins through like the Tigers this year.

Geelong is 2018’s most intriguing AFL premiership contender

Paul I have watched the Cats rebound each year since our epic battle in the 2011 grand final. I am amazed that while we fell away the Cats just keep making it each year, a bit like Sydney in that you wonder if this is the new normal. That is, that every year you simply lock in the Cats and Swannies for two of the spots in the eight? I would have included the Hawks but they finally seemed to have dropped off the pace now.

Geelong is 2018’s most intriguing AFL premiership contender

Although I would love my Pies to do a Richmond, for me the Cats are the team to beat this year. I have always admired the Cats (though I thought we were a chance when Clokey went crazy in the first half of the 2011 Grand Final) and winning alternate flags between 2007-2011 is almost as good as the mighty Hawks threepeat. They are a fearsome side already and the addition of Ablett may just tip them over the preliminary final stumbling block. They have built themselves a real fortress out at Geelong and are a really important team for the AFL being the only side not from a major city. They have proven everyone wrong since 2007 and continually present each year. The Cats should take the cup this year and four flags in 11 years makes them the biggest modern rival to the fabulous Hawks.

Cat, this is my favourite comment in here on the Melbourne training method. It does make sense what you said, that elite soldiers push themselves to be better and stronger and more mentally and physically resilient than others. I must admit I was truly surprised to read melbourne players had “dobbed” on their “teacher” (coach) to the AFL. I don’t know it all for sure but it seems to me that is not the sign of a playing group who are united.

Demons 'move on' from training camp revolt

I take your point Macca though I don’t know what the Simpsons Bear Tax is (though I suspect from the cartoon Simpsons).

Demons 'move on' from training camp revolt

What if they went through with it Macca and then stormed to the flag like the Tigers. Would that change your mind?
