I’m totally with you about ESS and the WB!

The Roar’s AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 16

By Golly. The Bombers were terrific! Fortunately for the second time, I went against popular belief and tipped them.

St Kilda vs Essendon: Friday Night Forecast

The last time you offered up a 5 goal Bomber defeat, which was recently, against the Swans, well, we know what happened and that it was only a diabolical series of events that prevented a Bomber win after being in an apparently unassailable winning position. So I challenge your assessment again here. Still, it will take time for sports commentators/reporters like yourself to believe that Essendon is worthy of considerably more credit than they’re getting. Their form at least deserves a narrower final margin as I also believe you’re placing too much weight on the Saints most recent performance and as impressive as it was, it was against a unusually inept Tiger outfit on the night.

St Kilda vs Essendon: Friday Night Forecast

It will be a measure of our maturity as a people, of our ability to forgive and move on as to how he will be received on Grand Final Day. So you can absolutely be guaranteed that some of the crowd will not receive him well, and that others will. As earnest as his detractors will be , to be heard, it’s even more important that those who recognise that it is time to move on, forgive and to see the presentation as a legitimate and timely gesture by the AFL to recognise what was great about this man, is great about this man, should outweigh the mistakes he made and endeavour to drown out the boos!

If those who were most affected, the players and the Club and the AFL itself, can all be accepting of HIRD, then the rest of us should consider our position-or reconsider it, as the case may be.

The game needs to move on as we all do and the sooner that we are seen to have done this-by being overwhelmingly positive towards HIRD on GF day, will be a proud day for the AFL and those of us who support the game.

James Hird has earned the right to present the Norm Smith medal

I tipped the Swans, at the SCG against the Hawks (who the Bombers defeated, at the MCG) and watched that game as well as some others. Their performance on that day was incredibly bad-as even you would agree. I do admit that they’ve lifted and that with Franklin and their mid field firing they can be a hard opponent. But if you’ve tipped the Swans by over 5 goals, then you have not been particularly attentive to the Bombers games either. But that’s okay. Enjoy Friday night!

Sydney vs Essendon: Friday Night Forecast

The Bombers defeated Port Adelaide , on the Adelaide Oval, by 70 points. remember?
They have also accounted for Geelong, WCE – all top 4 contenders.

And still you give a 5 goal margin over this team, to a team that has scratched and scrambled their wins after an abysmal 0-6 start?

I can’t wait till the siren goes tonight. Perhaps then, the Bombers will start to gain the accreditation it deserves.

Sydney vs Essendon: Friday Night Forecast

The Bombers will surge both in ladder position and average score, make no doubt about that, albeit from a low bases and that will be helped by the inevitable and somewhat justified degree of complacency amongst its competitors. The talent and more importantly, the depth of the Bomber list suddenly available combined with the accelerated development of it’s second tier youngsters will pose an immediate threat to any side. Provided, and it’s a major -IF- they can finally conquer their forward line impotence. They have defence, pace, midfield strength and a list depth-amazing depth, but the albatross in the room is whether their forward line solutions will work. Daniher & Stewart for a start will need to produce the goods (Joe-that includes kicking straight) as Hurley and Hocking are best down back-still, that depth may be called upon to shift those two forward if improvements are not satisfactory. The list is good enough to ensure the ball will certainly be getting into the 50 enough. For Essendon to be a true and serious finals contender, their conversion rate must soar. Even with less than optimum improvement, they’ll still be a competitor deserving of more respect than they’re being given right now.

The simple maths problem that will define the AFL in 2017

You cannot expect to be taken seriously, surely. If you had first asked yourself the question as to just how much revenue your idea would cost, you would have summed up from the outset, the futility of your proposal. If it needed to be answered, it could potentially cost $Ms, as well as jobs. And as it this needs further reinforcement, the public want more football, not less. let’s put this pointless hypothetical to bed now

AFL fixture changes: Forget 17-5, Let’s go 17-1

Essendon are unexpectedly quiet in this trading period, considering just how much trading volume there has been. What does this mean? Is there something to read into that ? Does anyone have any insight into what may be revealed or in play today? The Bombers still have forward line issues-major ones-which needed to be fixed , well yesterday.

AFL trade rumours: Get ready for a big finish!

Just a few factual corrections Andy. I never said I knew his character that well (see my earlier remarks) and while some of the questions you ask have already been answered-often repeatedly-over the years this saga has played out, by Jobe himself and others, and have nothing to do with the issue of the Medal, let’s just keep to topic. I’ll await the outcome as we all will and maintain my earlier position.
Yes, I remember the interview. He was being completely honest, probably because he was genuinely of the belief that he didn’t need to hide the fact. Was he always going to play on? I didn’t read it that way-there was no certainty of that and Jobe hasn’t grandstanded-what’s to be gained by such an approach?

Jobe, about that Brownlow...

It’s never been about who receives the medal should he give it up or be disqualified. I can’t surmise as why he’s not acted before now but that could be because he had other issues to consider, like whether he’d ever play again, knowing he’d be confronted by all manner of adversity (about him and the team and so on) by the media as well as both on and off the field.

One thing I do know, as would anyone who supports the team and by default knows something about Jobe’s character and his dedication to team, is that he is never about himself, and for that reason, the retention is not because of that.

Jobe, about that Brownlow...

Take the carpet from under the establishment and from the nay-sayers, Jobe, and return the Medal.
It will enhance your standing and take nothing away from you. The whole exercise is a distraction from what is really important to you-coming back and making a huge impact for the 2017 season. At the moment the Brownlow is heavier around your neck than it’s worth. The Essendon faithful will always consider you a winner and a great player and role model in their hearts and minds and your integrity will be further embellished and in the end, they’re important considerations.

You’ll always be a champion mate. The Medal doesn’t and should not define you.
