Tyke, we can ‘domimate’ South Korea with a second string team away from home. We’ve dominated nearly all of games under Arnold but results have been poor. He and a few others can talk the talk but can’t walk the walk.

I disagree. Mooy, Leckie and Rogic hasn’t done much for the Socceroos recently. Ikonomidis is overrated. Mabil is inconsistent. Boyle and Arzani just returned from injury and we don’t know enough about them. The injury could have ended their careers for all we know.

To be honest I don’t think his goal against England in ’86 was THAT impressive. I saw Tarek Elrich run past the entire Melbourne City defence before halfway and I think that’s just as good as Maradona’s goal which was awarded goal of the century.
Diego Maradona: An accurate yet incomplete summary of the Argentine's life
There were rumours a couple of months back that Maradona wanted to become the coach of Man United and he said that if he was in charge Man United would start to win trophies. I think he is a bit of a nutcase.

The way things are going, I don’t think that will last for long.

We certainly wouldn’t have gotten a single point if Arnold was in charge and probably wouldn’t have scored a single goal. Was getting Van Marwijk worth it? He was very conservative but we managed to grind out a result against Denmark and were ‘unlucky’ against France. Peru was far too good. I don’t think the Socceroos would have been any better if Arnold started earlier. He has done tons of experimentation before and after the Asian Cup for very little reward.
That being said, if we kept Van Marwijk we would probably have the same problem, not being able to score. I’m not sure keeping him would have made much difference at the Asian Cup.

Graham Arnold is simply arrogant. He says he is very happy with the draw despite the disastrous
1-0 loss to Jordan and says that he has ‘experience’ against them. They did exactly what we expected (parking the bus and hitting on the counter) and Arnie did little about it. In addition, despite Millsy’s terrible performances at the Asian Cup and the fact that he will be 34 in a month (36 in June 2022), he is STILL in Arnold’s plans.
Arnold still denies that the Socceroos don’t have enough quality, stating ‘we have a very good group of players’, ‘we’ll be ruthless’, ‘we expect to put in a great performance and win’. The questions are ‘When was the last time the Socceroos were ruthless against decent opposition under him?’ ‘Were there any notable performances against decent opposition under him?’ ‘Who are the players who have performed well under Arnold?’ And ‘Who could perform well in the future?’
The answers for the first two are no IMO, and I can’t really think of anyone who did perform well, except Mathew Ryan, except to a lesser extent Rhyan Grant, Chris Ikonomidis and Awer Mabil.
I am quite unhappy with Aziz Behich as well. He is overrated, struggled for gametime in PSV last season, has only done a satisfactory job in major tournaments for the last couple of years (no assists in eight matches, o.g. against France, poor perfomances in Confederations cup, missed a pen against Uzbekistan etc.), 28 years of age, and is overconfident. I have no idea what he did to deserve the armband in the second string, I repeat, second string side against South Korea. When we lost (deservedly so because we only created ONE clear cut chance against them, from a corner) he went on about how we took away positives ‘that Australia had lots of possession, has lots of depth (well, only in midfield tbf) and that there’s exciting times for the national team’. He also talked about ‘the great atmosphere in training and how the 1-0 loss was a ‘great night’. Yesterday he also talked about the ‘Socceroos making a statement on the Road to Russia’.
I have a few questions that need answering. ‘What’s depth in midfield good for if none of them can create enough chances?’ ‘What’s possession good for if we struggle to score from open play?’ ‘What’s the atmosphere in training good for if they can’t perform on the pitch?’ ‘How can there be exciting times for the national team when results have been poor, Arnold’s play is so conservative and boring to watch, with no potency going forwards (there is an exception)?’ ‘How can we make a statement in WC Qualifying if no Socceroos except Taggart are making statements for THEIR clubs?’ ‘And how will we make a statement if we couldn’t make a statement at the Asian Cup?’

YES!!! Everyone will think highly of Arnie, he’ll talk about expecting to win, and we can get DESTROYED by Jordan again!!! We won’t go to QATAR 2022!!!!! 😀
First Socceroos 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures revealed
Yeah Goodwin was both hot and cold but he would certainly be in my starting XI of the Team of the Season. Personally, I felt he was better than both Ikonomidis and Castro due to how he carried United to finishing 4th and finishing with the most assists in the league. He should have been Adelaide’s player of the season and probably Australia’s first choice left winger (until Arzani or Ikonomidis returns).
Kitto is now a left-back and Halloran only scored two goals. Now nobody can do the damage in the final third except for Mileusnic, Blackwood or McGree. And the defence doesn’t have enough depth either.
Why Goodwin’s exit actually suits Adelaide
You’re kidding. Gersbach is far too good for the A-League. Have you seen him perform under Ange? Not to mention he managed more game time in the Eredivisie in half a season with NAC Braeda than Sainsbury and Behich managed in a full season. Maybe we should bring two defenders at their peak that wore the Socceroos armband back to the A-League? (Sarcasm)

Victory is a bigger team than Sydney and he has won trophies with them. I’m no Victory supporter but what is that supposed to mean?
Kosta Barbarouses signs with Sydney FC
Personally I’d throw all three of them into the Socceroos’ best eleven.
Apart from Grant nobody in the defence impressed me at the Asian Cup.
Everyone in the Socceroos midfield was poor (Milligan, Luongo, Irvine, Rogic)
And apart from Ikonomidis and Mabil nobody shone in the attack.
Arnie’s search for taegeuk in his Socceroos squad
‘Arnold spoke of a desire to not rely on the “same 14, 15 players over the next four years”.’
Based on the performances in the Asian Cup, how can I rely on any of them?
Arnie’s search for taegeuk in his Socceroos squad
“Let’s hope a few of the young men on display against South Korea will eventually make the trip to Qatar.”
The only players I consider ‘young’ in Arnold’s squad are Thomas Deng (22), Harry Souttar (20), Brandon Borrello (who turns 24 in a month) and Awer Mabil (23). Everyone else is 25 years old or over.

C’mon LFC!! We did an Istanbul in the Semi by knocking off Barca. But credit to Tottenham if they win.

As an Adelaide supporter, so far things look pretty bleak for the Reds. Losing Kurz is of course going to be difficult but Isaias and Galloway are departing and they’ve been sensational. Thomassen, Ilso, Statemopoulous and Diawara are leaving. Lia and Blackwood are off contract as well. And of course we have an eccentric new coach who received 700 death threats and only won 2 games out of 21 with his last club at PEC Zwolle.
So now our midfield is significantly weakened, we have no strikers (except Blackwood who’s been playing as a CAM) and only five defenders in our squad including Ryan Kitto who is actually a wingr.

Halloran, Duke and Yeboah are too old and not good enough in my opinion.
Graham Arnold unveils Socceroos squad full of fresh faces for South Korea friendly
Personally I think Gersbach, Davidson and Smith are all better than Behich. I wasn’t impressed with Behich at the world Cup, confederations Cup and the Asian Cup.

Well, I guess I can’t argue with this squad too much. Very happy to see Borrello, Deng, Goodwin, O’Neill, Redmayne, Smith, Souttar and Taggart given a chance.

I don’t know what you think the requirements are for a player to be capped for the Socceroos. Perhaps my expectations are low, but you should remember this is a friendly.
As for Timotheau, I’ve heard of him a few weeks ago. He also made the bench three times. And I think someone with Schalke’s first team should certainly be considered for the Socceroos, especially since he could develop.
The squad Arnold should take to South Korea
I respectfully disagree with your view Roarfan. There is no guarantee that this team will not get out of the qualifiers, and there is no guarantee that the current Socceroos will get out of the qualifiers with their Asian Cup squad.
I don’t see exposing more young players and ex-Socceroos to gametime as giving away caps. I see this as an opportunity for them to develop and for the Socceroos to build up squad depth.

I doubt Muscat will change formations. I would expect Kamsoba to play as a left central mid, or for Valeri to come in and for Baena to come further forward.
Match preview: Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory
Maradonas was certainly better. But the point is after seeing players dribble through an entire defense a few times it gets old fast.
Maradona was a great player but I don’t think that was the goal of the century.
