I hear what you’re saying about both teams knowing the situtation in a 7 over game, but my concern with a match of that length is it’s just too short.

If you’ve only got 7 overs, and you have a bad one, its much, much harder to get back into the match. There’s no ebb and flow, no room for momentum changes. There’s limited scope for that in a 20 over game, but it’s still there.

What to do with weather shortened T20 games?

He made a great start to the domestic summer yesterday.

Three players, Steve Smith, Henriques and Mitch Marsh all played great one day knocks under pressure.

Hopefully, they keep it up.

Henriques needs to prove the doubters wrong

It’s hard to work out why Australia are so poor at T20 cricket.

We’ve been early adapters with the Big Bash and see a lot of our players perform well in the IPL.

You’d think that would correllate to strong international performances?

It reminds me of our early struggles in the 50 over game

We really were a very hot and cold One Day side throughout the 80s and it wasn’t until we won a world cup that we saw a degree of consistancy start to creep into our 50 over performances.

I wonder what it will take for the same to happen at T20 level?

Australia suffer heavy T20 loss to Pakistan

Maxwell was impressive, not because of his scores but the manner he went about it.

Very calm and knew when to go big. In the two chases where he played a pivotal role he always looked like he had it under control.

If he is going to play as an allrounder, there is some improvement needed in his bowling but is one day batting is very promising

Glen Maxwell: Australia's rising star

Comparing the current panel and the succesful Trevor Hohns one to Andrew Hilditch? Well trolled David, well trolled.

Selectors get it wrong with Warner call, again

It was a bad blunder, and I’ve seen some saying it robbed India. I don’t buy that, and I dont think it really is ‘tha’ crucial. For all we know, it was Sri Lanka that have been robbed – the missing ball could have been a wicket ball. Another 20 overs followed it, if India were good enough, they’d have won.

Extraordinary case of the 'missing ball' blunder

Opinions are opinions mate, call it stupid if you want but if Khawaja got runs when he had a chance, it would’ve forced the selectors hand. He missed out, they made a change and now it’s up to him to perform nd force his way back.
Better players than Khawaja have been dropped. He’ll be back.

Khawaja shouldn't have been Shaun from the Test side

Of course it was a big opportunity. Some people only get one test. When you come into the test side, every innings is a chance to show you belong there. Had Khawaja put runs on the board prior to the MCG test, he may have forced the selectors hand. But he didnt.

Khawaja shouldn't have been Shaun from the Test side

It’s all well and good to be critical of the selectors but the problem they have, specifically with the fringe batsman, is that nobody is standing up demanding to be picked.

While players like Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh had their chance to cement a spot, they didn’t and instead it was Hussey and Ponting who put their hands up demanding to be picked. In fact, in the case of R Ponting, the Hobart test was the only one this year where he failed to post a half century.

It’s all well and good to say the selectors are scared to drop Ponting and Hussey – but I my opnion you can only do that when you know the players coming in will do a better job. Marsh and Khawaja have had a chance to show they can do a better job – and they’ve failed.

Let's talk about selection, Test fans

The problem with Usman Khawaja is that he needs to score runs.

I’m a big fan, but the fact is he had a big opportunity to cement a place in the side, and he didn’t.

Know that he is out of the side, he needs to posy scores to force his way back in. A double failure against Tasmania won’t help.

Simply put, Usman Khawaja is now at a point where he needs to turn talent into runs.

Khawaja shouldn't have been Shaun from the Test side

Nevill has a question mark as to whether he’ll hold his spot in the NSW team with Haddin back there. Still, it’d be a hoot to see Nevill get a call up and then watch all the Victorians cry!

Haddin and Healy, two gloves in a pod

We clearly expect more with the bat form our keepers than we did in years gone by. Wade’s not the best gloveman in the country, I’d say Haddin’s glovework is better. Problem Haddin is, is that his glovework as well as his batting has been letting him down.

I’d rate both Paine and Hartley as better behind the stumps than Wade. Paine is out of the running and Hartley probably not good enough with the bat.

If Wade keeps up his performances, holds his own behind the stumps he should get a debut in the West Indies. From there, it’ll be his spot to lose.

Haddin and Healy, two gloves in a pod

Tendulkar is still their best batsman, though the improving Kohli may have something to say about that. Tendulkar hasnt scored that century, but he has been consistent in getting starts and half centuries.

Where to now for India's big three?

Unless they make changes, of course India could lose a home series. I mean, just prior to coming to Australia they very nearly lost a home test to the West Indies! Their strength has always been batting and spin bowling. I think their spinning stocks are the weakest I can remember and as for the batting……

Will we see a home Test series defeat for India now?

Good point Brett. And let’s not forget that under Ganguly’s leadership, the Indian side started to dish it out as well, however ithe blame is always sheeted through to the Australians. Thje big difference is, you rarely hear Australian players complain about being verballed in the media. As long as it’s not racist etc, what happens on the field stays on the field.

Can Australian cricket get past sledge mentality?

” I can’t see the point in Australia having over 50 world-class players looking to make a big dollar and not fitting into 12 places”

Really? 50 world class players in Australia?

Cricket needs to expand beyond national borders

We won’t beat England unless we get our batting sorted.

Watch out England! Australia is going to take back the Ashes

I would have liked to have seen James Faulkner included. Faulkner can hold his spot as a specialist bowler, his powerful batting is an added bonus. He is a much better prospect than a Clint McKay. We should be using the 50 over game to drip feed players like Faulkner international cricket.

Australia name ODI squad for series vs India, Sri Lanka

Thanks for the comments.

@RedKev and Brett – I agree, on paper there does seem to be a bit of a queue forming. The concern is that it’s a queue of either unproven players or some who haven’t taken their chance. At the moment, nobody in that queue is demanding to be picked. I obviously see Shane Watson coming back into the middle order where he will need to asert himself (I think he only passed 50 once in 2011). The next two tests will tell us alot about our batting – especially the top three. They’ve got their chance, they need to take it. We have had too many batting collapses over the last 18 months and need stability at the top.

Is a poor India papering over Australia's cracks?

Endless net sessions won’t help India when their problem isn’t technical. It’s desire and application, particularly of some experienced players that is their problem.
