I love almost all sport and have been to one of almost evrything: Tour de France, FA Cup Final, "world" title fights, World Cup cricket final, AFL grand finals, Formula 1, Indi 500, NFL, NBA........I think you get the message. Oh, and I've got an opinion on most of them too.

Completely agree on the thoughts about Jim Maxwell. He is one of the genuine sounds of an Australian summer. Even my wife who has no interest in cricket likes having him chatting away in the background. Harbhajan for me is like bloody Kevin Pietersen. These guys can struggle for form all year and then as soon as they play us they are unstoppable. I predict they will both torment us over the next few series.
The stats seem to back it up too with their respective bowling and batting averages against Australia superior to their career avergaes and their best individual performances (HS: 8/84, KP: 227) both against Australia.
We just seem to bring the best out in these guys.

To have a greatest sportmen list of all time without Merckx destroys the credibility of the whole list in my view. Merckx won the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia 5 times each, 3 world championships, most career victories, most TDF stage wins, most Classics wins – the list goes on and on. He dominated his sport as much as anyone has dominated a sport.

Managed to get to Paris for the final TT and Paris stage last year too. The influx of Brits created an incredible atmosphere and did themselves proud. Can’t beat it.
Who’s the best pro road racer of the modern era?
I’ve always thought Stuey O’Grady’s win is one the great unheralded Australian sporting achievements. Sports fans focus so much on the Tour but Paris-Roubaix is one for the purists.
I love that moment in the race when the domestiques are all gone and we get to see the hardest men in the peleton go hear to head.

Great question to pose and I completely agree with your conclusino on Boonen. The cycling calendar is not all about the Tour de France and Boonen has been a multiple of winner of the most important one day races, the races like Paris-Roubaix and Flanders that the real hard men of cycling win. Add in to that rainbow and green jerseys and he’s your man.
By the way I was on Alpe d’Huez in 2008 when Sastre rode solo to victory on the stage and took the tour away from Evans. Still gives me goose bumps.

Entrustung the AFL with investigating the tanking allegation is EXACTLY the same as entrusting the UCI to investigate doping in cycling. These organisations are incentivised to keep scandals to a minimum and we just can’t trust their impartiality.
No tanking? Phew, what a relief!
