Corne, I agree. In fact I saw something I have never seen before with Steve Hansen.
At the 72 min mark he was sucking in the big ones. A second loss to the Boks in this Championship would not have been a good look.

The All Blacks' mentality sees them victorious

Some good Wallabies in that team, Pete. Greg Davis – what a loose forward! Ruined Bok five eighth Peter Oxlee’s career – marked him out of the game.

Battle of the blondes: Faf versus Ned and other hairy questions

K C Other Leg- remember how fast off the mark Quaide was before his knee reconstruction? He lost that speed. Never the same player.

Wallabies without a no. 8

Pete Dossinger you paint a bleak picture. If you are right there will be a knew low- we won’t make the quarters in Japan

What will the Wallabies be like after the World Cup?

Pete, when talking about physique, have a look at the Argie back row. In fact the whole pack.
If you add this to the upward curve we are witnessing in their skills across the park, little wonder people are starting to see them as a serious force in Japan next year.
A big test for the Wallabies on the road against them very soon!

Wallabies without a no. 8

You know John, Dempsey’s injury was so untimely. He was coming along in leaps and bounds. I would say he is definitely a possibility

Wallabies without a no. 8

Hi Englishbob
McMahon certainly exceeded expectations but I think he lacks height at the top test level.

Wallabies without a no. 8

Thanks Shooter. You are righ- a serious lack of speed in the backs. How to get Banks in?
Also, a world class 12 last year is now 10. Stupid! I do not buy into the campaign against Foley. Given our lack of depth we must go back to Beale at 12 and Foley at 10

Wallabies without a no. 8

Thanks rugby wizard. I agree- need to try Higginbotham are I. There list no one else.

Wallabies without a no. 8

Tooly, Quade never regained his off the blocks speed after his knee reconstruction a few years ago. Never the same player.
And Cheika doesn’t rate him – I agree with that.

Oh for the box kick Down Under

Hi I have the answer, you make a good point.
Phipps must go.

Hi Old Man Frank Okeefe, please don’t misunderstand me – I am a huge fan of Will Genia.
I was not criticising him but rather the Wallaby rugby skill set which lacks the box kick, executed well and with players trained and skilled to chase and do what is necessary. Following on from what Pete Dossinger said, why in the world would a coach not use this to take advantage of Filou’s special jumping skills?

Oh for the box kick Down Under

Excellent comments, Who. I will expand my main point – effective box kicking is not part of the Wallaby way and needs to be if used properly. To be used properly you need a number nine who can execute and chasers who are trained and skilled in chasing the box kick and knowing what to do when they reach the target.

Yes Rugnut, the Tahs just won’t get rid of Gibson. They won’t admit that a good assistant coach (under Cheka) did not cut it as head coach. Notice how he sits alone when watching the games? What sort of message does that send??

Oh for the box kick Down Under

Interesting idea Ray- that would really test the kickers and chasers!

Excellent suggestion, Fion. Look what NZ did to manage Carter.

Oh for the box kick Down Under

Good suggestion Val and going back to my original points, there is no one on the current coaching staff with the skills so we need another Ledesma but this time for the no. 9 position. (Phipps needs a total make-over)

Spot on Tooly. But as Pete Dossinger said, the N Hemisphere use the box kick to good effect.

Hi Reds supporter, glad you share my enthusiasm for the rest of Will’s play since returning from France. I did write him off a couple of years ago!

Oh for the box kick Down Under

Good point Adastra32 – it may be too late for Will Genia to try learning the box kick. But it’s worth a crack!

Oh for the box kick Down Under

Thanks Pete Dossinger, very well put. Filou can get higher than anyone else in world rugby so it would be criminal for Cheka not to do something for the Wallabies to have the right kind of box kick up the sleeve.

Oh for the box kick Down Under

Gee Rugnut, that’s a bit tough on the Wallabies and Cheik. Look at the rubbish he “inherits” after Super 18. If you are talking about coaching, please , oh please, can you do something to get the Tahs a decent coach!

So true Fionn when the box kick is less than perfect. But when done properly, it can be a major attacking weapon. There is of course the danger for the follower to be yellow or red carded.

Oh for the box kick Down Under

Thanks Misha

Genia in 2017 didn’t resemble the painfully slow service of 2015.
He must have received coaching in France since his overall game in 2017 – kicking aside – has been outstanding.
