It’s all good Ben. To be fair some players do cross the line sometimes so I can see why people can get up in arms about this.
Although I agree that the game would be better off without it I just don’t think that will ever happen. If a player sees an opportunity to give their team an edge 9 times out of 10 they’ll take it even if it’s under dubious circumstances.
Sometimes a player won’t and credit to them but players and fans would be naive to say otherwise.
As for a pure contest of merit and skill if a player misses the ball or misjudges a tackle due to skill shown by an attacking player and makes any amount of contact with said player isn’t that a contest of merit/skill that the defending player has simply lost?
Look at Diego Castro and his ‘dive’ against Adelaide United.
Yes it was unsportsmanlike and not a particularly great moment but he glides past three defenders, nails the penalty and grabs a point for his team.
McGowan’s second attempt at the ball was not great either. Especially when it’s in the box.

The VAR may have already played a role in reducing diving

Some people might not like it but it’s part of the game. He gets in players heads, pisses them off and they make mistakes. He baited LaRocca and he got a yellow card, could’ve even gotten a red.
As for the dives in and around the box if your a defender making silly attempts to win the ball you deserve to be penalised.

Sometimes wonder what Vukovic’s career could have been. Not that he hasn’t done extremely well for himself but the infamous ‘slap’ preventing him from going to Beijing Oympics and then the unlucky circumstances surrounding his exit from Turkish club Konyaspor. Good to see him receiving the recognition he deserves.

Who is the A-League's most valuable asset?

I agree as it also prevents clubs who nurture homegrown talent to make any kind of profit unless their player goes overseas. The salary cap also stops clubs from getting greedy and spending way too much and having mountains of debt.

The salary cap: A necessary evil

I don’t think he should be sacked either. WSW should offer him a new contract soon as I’m pretty sure it runs out in 2108. I think its far more likely that he gets signed by either one of the new teams coming in or an overseas team. I don’t think WSW would stand in his way if an overseas team came for him.

Is it time for Tony Popovic to leave Wanderland?
