I reckon a lot of Maxwells “silly” dismissals are due to the fact he mainly plays limited overs cricket where really you are expected to take the bowling on more.
He actually averages more than both Marsh brothers and Khawaja at FC level .I have no doubt given some time he can actually make a decent no.6.
The case for Glenn Maxwell, Test player
The best 5th bowler by the length of Flemington strait is Faulkner who just doesn’t seem to be given a look in for some unknown reason. If you’re picking a bloke on the basis that he needs to share the bowling load then pick your best bowling option otherwise you get Watson,s who aren’t really that impressive with ball or bat.
Why persisting with an all-rounder is un-Australian
Rules are clear, anything that enters your body is on your head. Players aren’t the victims under the rule if found guilty.
The Essendon players, not Hird, remain the true victims
Everything that has happened to Essendon has been of their own doing, not the AFL’s, not ASADA’s, not WADA’s , not the media’s but Essendon’s.
Surely they knew if/when they got caught with this program there’d be questions to be answered…yet they haven’t answered one of them. No records kept, players unable t say what they were injected with etc, now if you’ve got nothing to hide why would you go to such lengths to cover everything up?
Essendond and Hird have acted the victim the whole way through without a leg to stand on.
Gutless Essendon board fail to back Hird
Hardly a new thing. Late 90’s early 2000’s there was Kouta, Goodes, Bruce, Embley running around the midfield at around the 190cm mark.
For a while I agree athletes rather then footy players started to take over but they were more trying to be turned into key position players like O’hAplin and Tom Williams….
Now with VFL, SANAFL,WAFL players getting more chances it seems clubs are willing to give footballers a chance again, even though you still hear of some bloke from the US whose tall and run getting a rookie spot.
Don’t believe the little bloke who can play footy is lost though, just got to look the Doggies giving Daniel, Dahlhaus, Honeychurch ago.
Is AFL's athleticism coming at a cost?
If all we want is an all rounder who picks up a handy wicket or 2 here and there then we already have that in Steve Smith. Watsons batting form hasn’t justified selection for a long time.
Watto we going to do with this all-round problem?
It frustrated me last year when CA said they’ll be flatten out the Shield wickets to suit the batsmen and now they announce their importing soil from India to replicate spinning wickets in the nets? How about encouraging lively Shield wickets which offer something for the bowlers and rewarding the batsmen who score runs on the lively wickets with Test selection? You’ll learn nothing about a batsmen when all he sees is roads,
Our spin solution – turn the SCG back into a dustbowl
I’ve had a few mates bag Lyon out because he isn’t an attacking spinner but at the same time there has been plenty of teams who have had success with containing, work horse spinners. Which I see Lyon as, sure his gone the journey at times but name me a spinner in world cricket who hasn’t? the main thing is Lyon has always fought back and I can’t see no reason why he can’t this summer.
Nathan Lyon needs to play against India
I disagree no ones forcing Haddin out, Haddins keeping has never really impressed me much and now his batting is on the slide. Hartley. Neville and Whiteman are ahead of him for mine.
Give Brad one more summer before Haddin off into the sunset
Watching Handscombe bat in the Ryobi Cup yesterday, his the type we need to be putting our focus on. Seemed to have a good temperament and a cool head.
Where are the upcoming Test batsmen?
Got me stuffed why Butterworth wasn’t at least taken to England, would suited English conditions perfectly I reckon.
Australia's pace options for Ashes
With Pattinson injured and Warner suspended he isn’t being picked ahead of anyone in the squad, his merely making up the numbers in a tour match.
Ashton Turner: Why is he now playing for Australia?
If Wade’s batting performances aren’t good enough to play as a batsman then Cowan, Watson and Warner should be no where near the Test team. He has out performed/matched those 3 with the bat in fewer Tests. He has more hundreds then Cowan and a higher Average, he has as many hundreds as Watson and the same ave 35 in 30 fewer Tests and his just behind Warner with one less ton and a slightly lower ave (39) in 7 fewer Tests. I think if Wade were to be given the chance in the side as a specialist batsmen he could make a fair go at it, certainly couldn’t be worse then some of the ones we’re playing now.
As for pure keeper, I agree that Hartley is probably the best going around Australia. Haddin has never been the best pure keeper in this country in my opinion, Manou had him covered with the gloves.
Who is Australia's next wicketkeeper?
“She didn’t even know it was indigenous round”, heard that so many times and I still fail to see how her knowing or not knowing what round it was matters, if it’s racist it’s racist, the round/day/time doesn’t change that.
But to the main point, I agree 100%, I can’t see how the AFL can sit there and tell us this is a game for all cultures, races, backgrounds etc then announce the International touring team will be made up purely of players from a certain race. Seems to conflict the message they’ve been trying to send.
What happened to equality on the AFL's 'field of dreams'?
No stumping there, have some balls and call not out ump
England vs Australia: Ashes 2013 1st Test cricket live scores, blog
New Zealand in their 2 recent series bowled England out cheaply a couple of times. Englands batting line up is stronger then Australias but there is a weakness there our bowlers can expose.
England’s Champions Trophy collapse gives hope to Australia
The Bulldogs are bringing in a stand alone ressies side next year. They should do what they can to keep Gia around, maybe in a playing/coaching role in the VFL.
Could Giansiracusa become a Giant next season?
I reckon Rocket would be a great fit for the Dees. His good in the media so he’ll help sell the club and his proved he can turn struggling sides around quickly when he took over the Bulldogs. As a Dogs supporter I think we should have give him at least these 2 seasons to develop the list but our loss may be Melbourne’s gain.
Who will coach the Demons in 2014?
That’s where I’d bat him. His bowling is important to us I think.
Give Watson some freedom or let him fade away
The Bulldogs Jake Stringer is another one. His already built like a brick outhouse, is quick on the lead, a good kick for goal and he throws the body in.
Meet the AFL’s next generation of gun forwards
Even when he was opening the batting he wasn’t turning his starts into hundreds, a bit like Cowan. I say his bowling offers more value too the team then his batting but we need him taking a major role with the bat as there is no one else really pushing to come in.
Give Watson some freedom or let him fade away
I will always argue Rod Laver is the GOAT, all others can fight for 2nd.
The GOAT debate has become a Djoke
