Nah, that’s an urban muth Mushi

Six talking points from the NRL grand final 2019

There’s a difference between hyperbole and humour Andy F, and my post wasn’t hypobolic.

Six talking points from the NRL grand final 2019

With apologies to John F Kennedy and the citizens of Berlin:

Two thousand years ago, the proudest boast was civis romanus sum (“I am a Roman citizen”).

Today, in the world of rugby league, the proudest boast is “Ich bin ein Raider!” (“I am a Raider!”).

Today all rugby league supporters, wherever they may live, are citizens of Canberra, and therefore, as a rugby league man, I take pride in the words “Ich bin ein Raider!!!”

True, but the game were well and truly in the balance when that call was made and the Roosters should never have been in that position. It changed the whole trajectory of the game. Raiders should have had the set. I feel bad for them.

Stay classy

Jack Wighton booed after being named the 2019 Clive Churchill medallist

I have friends from Canada, UK and US and they don’t understand why I loathe the Roosters so much. I should send them a link of this video.

To be fair, the Roosters scored a try in the 6th minute and again in the 73rd minute off the back of the 6 again reversal. So if anyone looked like struggling to score it was the Roosters.

I mentioned this article to Joey and he said “I don’t agree with it. Did Mary write it at normal speed? If Mary wrote it at slow speed then I don’t agree with it. Did she write it at normal speed?”

Joey’s latest obsession. Don’t worry if a player cleary knocked on or infringed, if it looked okay on normal speed then that’s all that matters.

Joey's ref criticism is absurd

I only survived the wait for the train by making up new lyrics to the songs, which would probably be moderated if I typed them in here 😁

Luke Keary waits on charge sheet

I was at Edgecliff Train Station yesterday Dutski and they were playing “Here Come the Roosters” and “Rooster Rooster Man” over the speakers, and I almost felt like jumping onto the tracks 🤢

I agree Geoff. I think Raiders fans should go in confident.

BTW, the whole “they played their grand final against Team A” line has been used a lot this year about all the contenders, bar maybe the Roosters and Storm. I heard it used about Manly against Cronula, Souths against Manly, and Canberra against Souths. It doesn’t make sense to me as based on this logic, Souths played our Grand Final in Round 1 against the Roosters haha.

Watka, he didn’t come back in because he failed the HIA.

No disputing that Bonza, as I said I have a soft spot for the Raiders and it’s a great story. People supported the Raiders for all the reasons you mentioned – 25 years, Ricky, a team full of nice players, underdogs etc. I have no issue with all that and all the things you mentioned are what I love about rugby league and why I want the Raiders to win the grand final.
What I have an issue with is the article asserting that MOST people were behind the Raiders because of the Sam Burgess Greenburg thing, as argued in the article. That simply isn’t true. I haven’t come across a single post on the Roar saying “I hope the Raiders win because Sam Burgess and Greenburg”. 👍

Ricky Stuart’s Raiders advance to the big dance - and deservedly so

Good luck Stormy. For what it’s worth I think the Roosters will miss Hargreaves and need a forward to stand up and lead in the way Adam For Noo Are Blake did against Cronulla. Who but? If the Storm forwards crack in they should win.

Sydney Roosters vs Melbourne Storm: NRL preliminary final preview, prediction

I think you completely misinterpreted my criticism and meaning, but not to worry. I’m not offended at all that my team got beaten and have in fact expressed praise and good wishes to the Raiders multiple times. Raiders were the better side and deserved to win. What “offends” me is when “journalists” make snide comments about Hollywood Gladiators and the like, in the same way it would be offensive for a journalist to refer to the “salary sombrero” when talking about the Roosters. “Journalists” need to be better than that.

Also, the cesspit that is Twitter is the last place I would be looking for fan views or feedback.

Anyway, thanks for the kind wishes. Should be an awesome game tonight.

All the best mate.

I didn’t have a problem with the tackle. Hit Dooey on the chin and so warranted a penalty, but no more than that. Was actually a good hit.

I thought the same about Hodgson TB. He is one tough hombre. Took a lot of hits (some in making tackles, like the try saver on Cody) and he just bounces back. To quote Coen Hess, “he is like a piece of iron”.

BTW Papi, now that you’re on the Raiders (I am too), for the upcoming week you should change your name from Papi Smurf to Papali Smurf. You just need to add a couple of letters, so it’s not a big deal. 😁

Hi Papi, I always listen to ABC Grandstand on digital radio with the sound turned down on Channel 9, and when the Raiders put up a bomb to Allan’s wing Moorey called that Allan not only didn’t charge for the ball and allowed it to bounce, but he actually “turned his back on it”. On the replay he appeared to do so. It’s rare to see a player seem so disintereted in gaining possession that he’ll turn his back on the ball!!

That’s brilliant TB! Gave me a chuckle.

Reading this made me recall why I never read articles by Stuart Thomas. Stuart, you have a tendency in all your articles to make sweeping statements and gross generalisations that you claim to be reflective of public opinion, but that in fact represent your own narrow views, not those of the public. Your writing reminds me a lot of Danny Weidler. All froth and no beer. You could easily find a home at the Daily Terrograph or Courier Mail.

On a more positive note, congratulations to all the Raiders fans out there – Geoff, Taree Raider, Tony and all. You have a strong, gutsy and resilient team and I hope the Green Machine go all the way and win the Premiership.

I had the provelidge and fond memory of going to the superb 1989 grand final with my best mate at school when I was 15 years old. He was (is) a Rooster supporter and I of course a Rabbitoh, and we went to the game undecided as to which team to support. We took our seats behind the goal post, and as the crowd built we were soon surrounded a horde or fans dressed in lime green. Their passion and love of their team was infectious and made our decision as to whom to support an easy one. Glenn and I cheered on the Raiders for the remainder of that wonderful game, and ever since I have had a soft spot for the Raiders.

So: go the Raiders and I hope you raise another Premiership next week!

I’ll buy you a thesaurus 😛

Green machine: Raiders sink Souths to move into 2019 grand final

Congratulations Raiders, that was something special. I have always had a soft spot for the Raiders. Was sitting with my best mate from school behind the goal posts amongst Raiders fans in the 1989 grand final as a 15 year old. Hope they go on to win it!

I think The Spectator is asking for a job 😛

Green machine: Raiders sink Souths to move into 2019 grand final

You really are a bit negative in all your posts Adam (“terrible” is not an adjective I would use). I thought we were gutsy in the last couple of games and tried our heart outs, despite being battered and busted. That’s all you can ask for, that they put in. I think Papali should be fine.

56 points conceded in 2 games is still better than 58 in one game!
