Lachie Neale could very well be All-Australian this year. I’m not a Freo supporter, but I thought Freo fans rated Fyfe, Mundy and even Barlow before Neale?
Brandon Ellis has had a ridiculously good two years. He is on par with Neale for consistency

Good call. I think now that time has passed, most Bulldogs fans are over it, but if a top 5 pick at my club put his hand up for trade after 70 odd games, I would be pretty sour about it.

Fair call. I do like grouping players together if they were all drafted in the one draft.
For example, for Geelong’s sweet and sour – first sweet was 2001 – where they drafted Kelly, Bartel, Johnson and Ablett (F/S).
Hawks – 2004 – Lewis, Buddy, Rough // 2001 – Mitchell and Hodge
And most recently, Freo’s 2008 – Ballantyne, Walters, Hill, Clarke, Suban, Pearce

I started from 2001 so Dean Cox just missed out, as he was rookie drafted in 2000. But he definitely should’ve been given a special mention! My bad!

I’m a big Ted Richards fan, but ultimately, he was drafted by the Bombers in 2000 (these articles start from 2001) and was traded to the Swans to continue his career. If he had entered the preseason, national or rookie draft to continue his career at Sydney, he definitely would of been a top ‘sweet’.
The Swans gave up picks 19 and 50 in exchange for Richards. The Bombers drafted Courtney Dempsey and Sam Lonergan with those picks, but the likes of Bernie Vince went at pick 32, Andrew Swallow at pick 43, Joel Patfull at pick 56…all in the 2005 draft.
Possibly a missed opportunity for the Bombers, but pick 19 was a pretty high pick to give up! But I don’t think Sydney would mind, Richards has been a remarkable servant to their team since being traded.

I agree. But at least they received pick 28 from Sydney in exchange for Mummy, and they drafted Mitch Duncan with that pick.

Fair call. They are both worthy of the number 1 spot. But Swan’s draft selection of #58 is a little more spectacular then Pendles at #5.
Thaat’s just my opinion but Pendlebury is definitely a number one as well.

Their drafting has been pretty remarkable. The ‘sours’ aren’t implying by any means that Davis, TIppett and Gunston aren’t good players…I use that word as a way of explaining how the acquisition or selection of the player ended up for Adelaide.

You’re spot on. The ‘sour’ phrase is a little tongue in cheek, but it really meant to represent those draft picks that didn’t work out for the club whether they played 0 games, 100 games and asked for a trade, or if it ended in a messy divorce like the Tippett scenario.
Playing over 100 games is a considerable contribution to a club, so I don’t mean it disrespectfully. However, as you can see, Adelaide had three key position players within three years of each other asking for trades.

Thank you! Yes it will be good to see how this all plays out. I’d be very surprised if GC let O’Meara walk through to the PSD, and by the same token, it was interesting that Prestia in his statement said they he wanted the club to be fairly compensated for his departure.
Who knows how this will all unfold but it will be an exciting trade period!
