At the time I thought he should have taken the call, if only to proffer his services should injury take out CG. In hindsight, it makes perfect sense to ignore EJ.

'It was remarkable RA couldn't see it': Quade slams Eddie chaos, praises 'phenomenal' McKellar

EJ takes umbrage at your statement…

'It was remarkable RA couldn't see it': Quade slams Eddie chaos, praises 'phenomenal' McKellar

More likely the Welsh were nice to him because he’s not coaching Wales, not because he’s not coaching England.

'Who cares?': Eddie has no regrets about Wallabies disaster but takes swipes at RA and media

Could be wrong but I thought RA had offered Tregonning the full-time job but he turned it down? Or have I remembered that incorrectly, wouldn’t be the first time if so.

'Hell of a win': 14-player Wallaroos hold on for stunning win over Wales to send coach out on a high

Bloody Eddie is full of sh*t, he should be the one eating it. Every statement out of his mouth is a contradiction – “I’m gone the end of the World Cup”/“I’m fully committed to Australian rugby”, “players coming back from an Achilles tendon or ACL need time”/“these players aren’t good role models” etc, etc. The alarm bells were well and truly ringing from the moment he selected his RWC squad and started making contradictory excuses.

I admit I drank the Eddie Kool-Aid although I always thought he should have been hired with a start date in 2024 a la Scot Robertson. I got fooled. In a way, I actually don’t blame Hamish as much as some others, he got fooled by the Eddie circus just like I and many others did.

Eddie’s left rugby in Australia in a worse place than when he started. Thankfully he’s gone and good riddance too. Sayonara Eddie, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Good luck JRFU, you’ll be needing it…

Read it and weep: Eddie made Wallabies fans 'eat s--t' for 10 months - here's every bit of BS he uttered

Must defer to Roarers for team selection. Specifically Roarers who agree with me.

No crybabies, no league tragics, no Eddie Jones - the next Wallaby coach checklist

An interesting tidbit from Eddie’s presser was who he thought would win this RWC. In line with Spiro’s comments on Barnes, Eddie favoured the All Blacks if Wayne Barnes refs the final. His reffing of the rucks suits the ABs, whereas O’ Keefe definitely reffed the rucks in a way that suited the Boks style of play vs France.

Obviously BOK can’t ref the final if, as expected, the ABs are playing. In which case, I can’t see anyone other than Barnes reffing the final (as I don’t expect England to be in the final either).

SPIRO ZAVOS: The moment I knew Irish curse would continue, and why Southern giants still rule the Cup

The dance continues between RA, Eddie and the JRFU.

You can bet Eddie has a getout clause in his contract, he refused to answer that question in the presser. So from the JRFU’s point-of-view, nothing nefarious there, they can interview him. Then you’ve got Phil Waugh tap-dancing around the issue: it would be disloyal if Eddie did speak to the JRFU in the middle of a RWC campaign but I believe him when he’s told me he hasn’t. You can see he’s laying the groundwork for RA’s case.

Reminds me years ago when I worked in Japan for a year – in a business negotiation, the Japanese negotiator wouldn’t say “No” but would suck in his breath through gritted teeth, shake his head slowly from side to side, and say “Muzukashi-des” which translates to “difficult”. (Read between the lines, that’s a “no).

So it’s standard procedure to dance around the issue which is what is happening here. Harry called it correctly.

Wallabies coach Jones disloyal if Japan talks real, says Rugby Australia boss

What?!?!?! Geoff did you just say what I thought you said – that my odds of a date with ScarJo are in line with pigs flying?

So you’re saying there’s still a chance…

Parkes Life: The joke's on us - could it be that World Rugby knew what they were doing all along?

No doubt the lawyers have been involved in crafting public statements from all sides. Need to interpret what’s being said by Eddie, RA and JRFU through the lens of “lawyerspeak”.

No offence intended Harry as I think you may be a member of the legal fraternity? 😊

Eddie digs in as he flies home - AGAIN denying he wants to quit to coach Japan, while revealing next step

The article misses more comments from Broncan – “Tactically too, there are very few tacticians” and “The Frenchman added to the criticism of Jones’ training tactics and said Skelton and Tupou were mismanaged, while also saying Jones’ experiment of bringing in assistant coaches from rugby league and Australian rules football failed.” mentioned here: https://au.sports.yahoo.com/wallabies-assistant-coach-turns-team-embarrassing-history-rugby-world-cup-221931267.html

Finally someone from inside the sanctum who echoes widespread criticism from Roarers every since Eddie’s disastrous RWC squad selection and motley crew of assistant coaches.

RWC News: England set to drop star playmaker, Boks coach turns heat up on coach, Frenchman's big Eddie admission

Australian rugby long passed its era of shooting itself in the foot. This year was shoving a hand grenade into each shoe and Eddie pulling the pin to ensure there are no feet left to shoot.

'How much does Australian rugby want to learn from the world?': Why you've got to stay tuned into World Cup

From memory there was still time left on the clock if Joubert had called an accidental offside instead of the penalty offside that he actually called. Could be mistaken but that’s what I recall sitting here 8 years later…

Exclusive: 'Seismic shift' as Waratahs to hand over keys to RA in boost to reform push - others to follow

What is it with repeatedly going back saying Joubert made the wrong call and that’s the only reason the Wallabies made it past the 2015 QFs? First, even if it wasn’t a penalty, it would have been a scrum to Australia well inside Scottish territory. I’d back the Wallabies to score (penalty, drop kick, or try) from there. Second, that’s sport – sometimes you get the rub of the green, sometimes you don’t. Every winner needs a pinch of good luck then the ability to take advantage of that luck. It’s a bit rich lumping Joubert with the ailments of Australian rugby.

Exclusive: 'Seismic shift' as Waratahs to hand over keys to RA in boost to reform push - others to follow

It reads like the Force have helped come up with the money. (Twiggy maybe?). In which case maybe not all the mud being thrown at RA sticks. (To be sure they deserve plenty of mud chucked at them for other recent events but maybe not here).

The other issue seems to be plenty of Roarers are talking like it’s $1.6m per year when the article clearly states that’s for 2 years. i.e. $800k per year. A great salary for a rugby player but not exorbitant for the right player. Whether Chrichton is worth it, time will tell.

Besieged Wallabies throw lucrative deal at Crichton in bid to lure Roosters star back to rugby - with a Super twist

I have to admit I drank the Eddie koolaid when he was appointed but I did say I thought he should start in 2024 after the RWC. But the alarm bells were blaring when he came out with his RWC squad bereft of several experienced players. Half the team on the field vs Wales weren’t test-quality standard. Ben Donaldson is maybe the 4th ranked flyhallf in Australian rugby? The Brumbies team would have beaten that Wallabies team. It was like boys vs men and that was all down to Eddie’s youth policy. Players with only a few caps or blooded at a RWC without a spine of experience around them and they looked clueless under pressure. Have to wonder how many will be scarred by that experience.

The Wallabies were never going to win this RWC but Rennie would have got them to a QF and quite possibly a SF. What happened to the team that beat Wales by plenty in Cardiff, lost by 1 point to France Paris and 3 points to Ireland away and with a litany of injuries? That team was blown up by Eddie grabbing a grenade and pulling the pin while saying “Follow me boys”. And to top it off, the Sydney Morning Herald story on the eve of this match about Eddie interviewing with Japan after coming to France with the Wallabies team. What a traitor if so…

Rugby in Australia has already been on losing ground this last decade but Eddiie’s hand grenade has doubled the damage. I just hope it’s not terminal to the game here. Will there be a silver lining that this really is rock bottom and finally smashes up the old boys network so that rugby finally gets the system-wide revamp it needs?

The Wrap: With Wallabies done and dusted in 15 miserable days, who do we trust to take Australian rugby forward?

At this rate The Roar should put in a bid for a 20% stake. In return Roarers can select the coach and team. What could go wrong?

Why RA have opted to borrow $60m instead of pursuing private equity sugar hit - for now

Can EJ swallow his pride and bring in a player who should have been on the plane in the first place? Moot point if we don’t get past Wales but otherwise he should be bringing in someone in a crucially thin position – thin because of his crazy initial squad picks. Someone who can bring experience too.

Personally I’d like to see him bring in Quade but if not, Foley or Ikitau or Hooper. Although I like Pietsch we don’t need another winger.

Is EJ willing to lose face for the greater good?

Wallabies young gun's RWC over ahead of do-or-die Test, intrigue over replacement as Ikitau returns for BaaBaas

The board and Hamish must also take a fair chunk of the blame if we don’t get out of the pool. I was all for hiring EJ but he should have had his start date in 2024 with a clean slate. Parachuting him in a few months before the RWC was madness – team cohesion out the window with a new coach and too late in the cycle to get the pick of assistant coaches. The current crop of assistants are probably all yes-men to EJ’s coaching plans – I can’t see the NRL/AFL-background coaches challenging Eddie in any of his decisions, yet that’s what a good leadership team needs.

On top of that EJ’s push for youth at all costs has cruelled this 2023 RWC campaign. You can see that in the up and down nature of the Wallabies’ performances and even EJ had admitted that happens with a new team. But he didn’t need to go all-in on youth, he could have gone 80% in that direction and kept a few crucial leaders instead of picking all of Vunivalu, Donaldson, Jorgensen, Kemeny et al.

COMMENT: Eddie must be axed if he can't beat Wales - or the game will be in deep trouble in Australia

EJ should have been brought in for 2024. His youth policy would have made sense then, starting afresh and he’d have had a much wider pool to select his assistant coaches from. RA should have signed him from 2024 and had Dave Rennie finish up his contract with the RWC. Too late now…

The horror five minutes that put Wallabies' World Cup on life support as Eddie's huge 10 call falls flat

I agree with SBW, always thought Carter would do well alongside Quade as a mentor. It felt like there were no leaders left on the field at the end to try to run down Fiji and salvage a draw.

I can see the logic with EJ’s youth plan but it really should have started in 2024. The young Wallabies at the RWC have no experience to fall back on and now are in dire straits to make it out of the pool and avoid the ignominy of becoming the first ever Wallabies team to fail to get to the quarterfinals.

What should have been a scrum weapon has been depowered no Tupou and Slipper forced to switch from LH to THP. Wales will fancy their chances at scrum time unless Pone recovers in time so we have 2 genuine THPs.

'We're going to go through some pain': Eddie bristles at SBW criticism but takes 'full responsibility' after historic loss

Things going from bad to worse. LHP having to play THP, there goes our scrum advantage. Now the captain and “best tight-head lock in the world” looks to be gone, there goes our maul. (Not that we’ve done much on maul attack but Skelton has been a revelation in maul defence). So half our set piece advantage vs Fiji looks to have gone up in smoke. If we lose here, then the game vs Wales becomes must-win but from the sounds of it both Tupou and Skelton could well be scrubbed for the rest of the pool games. Fingers crossed Pone is fit by then…

UPDATE: Clearest sign that Wallabies captain Skelton is OUT of Fiji game, coach names back up skipper

Fingers crossed it’s not an issue but what happens if Tupou can’t play with both Slipper and Pone not yet right to return? That would leave only Zongorr, Schoup and Bell – we won’t have 4 fit props to put in the match day 23! (48 hour stand-down to bring in a new player so even that is pretty much out of the question at this stage).

Do the Wallabies just name a prop in the 23 who can’t play and leave a starting prop on for 80? Can they even name only 3 props? (Don’t think that’s allowed?)
