Boys it will be ‘pistols at dawn’ next week for several players/positions on either side. Don’t think it will determine who is in the squad as that should now be known after last nights game? thats unless someone played themselves out last night.
The scenario next Saturday is he who stuffs up will be playing the lesser games and holding tackle bags v starting.

Will be close, a win to the Wallabies. This isn’t blind bravado but based on pressure.
The ABs failed last night under pressure, failed to excecute and Eden Park will be no different. The last game on home soil for several ABs, pressure & weight of public expectation and several areas of ‘repair’ required, exclude the lineout.

I would think Cheika will coil the guys up before Saturday and as last night showed & the trainings clashes over the past weeks illustrate the Wallabies aren’t concerned about self preservation, go back a year and the softness and 60 minute efforts reigned supreme, don’t see that now.

DIY player ratings for Bledisloe 1 - Wallabies and All Blacks

I liked what you had written tiger until i saw the 20+, will be a lot closer than you think.
These two teams have great room for improvement but what we have seen from Cheikas men and heard from the man himself is that pride counts for everything, for your mate and country.
There won’t be a less than 80+ game from the Wallabies as seen in the first three tests.

Hard-fought win gives the Wallabies their first Rugby Championship

Worn my Wallaby jumper for 3 days, was going in the wash this morning but may just wear it up the Mount tomorrow, sit on a rock and shed a man tear thanking the rugby gods.
Looking forward to walking into the office on Monday for the first time in years, being an Aussie rugby supporter in NZ makes for interesting week starts 🙂 90% of the time

Wouldn’t hurt but will depend on how Ben Smith shapes up but was he just winded?

Big congrats to the forwards, matched, bettered AB counterparts on occasion but most of all you hunted for 80+.

ZG I think SBW played his way to the bench.
No doubting he is a great player but a lack of game time told but some of his decision making under pressure will be a concern for Hansen.
How big a loss is Nonu seen as now in ABs lacking the punchy mid field when he doesn’t play?
This may have also affected Conrad who was very quiet.

They had off games hmm but funny thing is we won because the team kept their structure and played hard no matter the errors.

Nice Mace, refreshingly nice. Thumbs up mate and your yard next week and that one is the one that counts.

NB point is the replacements aren’t in the class of McCaw, Carter, C Smith, Kaino, Nonu (?), Woodcock, Kevvie ….. Yes yet, maybe and certainly time will tell but look at the squad and the inexperience # test caps and compare with AB RWC in years past, testing time for even your rugby nursery?

McCaw and Carter's farewell to be spoiled by Wallabies' belief

Australian sport focused site, narrow it down to this tab being heavily focused on Australian rugby and you ‘kinda’ get where David comes from.
WT its hard enough with the Kiwi cousins and their bloody World Champion ABs 🙂 on this site!

McCaw and Carter's farewell to be spoiled by Wallabies' belief

Good points RP.
I’d question Cruden getting back his starting spot as Sopoanga is very good, raw but very good.
Would you see 12 & 13 as your biggest gap to fill and will Read fill McCaws captain boots next year as part time he has done okay but full time without some older heads around him will be a task and a half.

My view is the number of retirements will be a challenge for the ABs as the mix of youth and exuburance has been well led by mature minders such as Conrad. To wear an AB jersery is undoubtledly an honour and filled with expectation and passion but no different to the nations I mentioned including ‘my’ Wallabies.

The ABs are number 1 and consistently set the benchmark but never think that this can’t end.

McCaw and Carter's farewell to be spoiled by Wallabies' belief

Thanks Harg

McCaw and Carter's farewell to be spoiled by Wallabies' belief

Not a bad post Ra.
Luckily it is the minority that target Hooper as ‘not fit as our 7’ because in most Aussie minds he illustrates the great thing about what we expect and love in the majority of our Aussie sportsmen and womens efforts. They never say die and play with flair even if the game is seen as lost by most, Cheika and his boys will give 80+ tonight and that is all want to see. Win or lose pride shown = respect given.

Divided loyalties: Sportsmanship still important when the stakes are high

Sorry RP but the last point “They can control bringinging their A game but will need the ABs to be less than their best to win” is defeatism.

23 v 23. The ABs don’t lose because they are tired, unfairly done by, robbed by a forward pass, robbed by the rub of the green. They lose like everyone else, beaten by a better team on the night. Yes the losses only occur at the hands of the English, Boks, France and us but we all have occasions to bemoan excuses for losses against the ABs.

The changing of the guard has started in the ABs with up to 7 old boys gone come the end of October. Are these players being replaced by potential superstars, maybe with Barret the leading light but as for the ‘rest’ (sounds disrespectful I know) are they any better than other crop of new international players, no.

McCaw and Carter's farewell to be spoiled by Wallabies' belief

Somehow I think Murray that Cheika hasn’t done his selection plans based on two players nullifying McCaw as although McCaw is without peer as a captain he is on a level playing field as a 7 with Hooper.
Read and Pocock as 8 v 8 is the biggest key to the fowards clash but don’t underestimate Pocock as an 8 as his recent tests demonstrate his improved ball carrying metres and his defense is as good as it always was.

Respect to McCaw but it is a great team that he plays in and I have seen games when Richie has a bad game but the ABs machine doesn’t miss a beat. Wallabies play well as a unit and follow the attack plan they will have and they will be in with a half decent shake.

McCaw and Carter's farewell to be spoiled by Wallabies' belief

Aussie we aren’t thin on talent, we don’t have a great pack but we do have a good one.
As for the experimental backline both the ABs and Wallabies are trialing different combinations.
MSK and SBW getting a chance to shine or become part of the wider squad or worst, removed from the RWC on a bad game. Exactly the same for the Wallabies with players needing blinders to just make the starting lineout for the clash at Eden Park.

Fitness, physicality and team unity are areas of improvement that you now see in this Wallaby group with a no nonsense, attacking driven head coach and assistants.

Pie in the sky? Only if you a die hard AB fan or a part time Wallaby supporter maybe.

McCaw and Carter's farewell to be spoiled by Wallabies' belief

Whatever the results over the next two weeks the selections trialed by Cheika have me believing that he has Aussie rugby in his best interests.
Yes not everyone will agree with his choices but we aren’t sitting in on every training, every coaches discussion to get the feeling of this group of players. We don’t have the endless talent on hand like the ABs but 2003 and 2007 show belief trumps skill.
Enjoying what my Wallabies are showing me, the heart and toughness now evident, just what you need for crunch games in the RWC where blowouts are rarely seen.

The road to glory at the 2015 Rugby World Cup

Nicely put KCOL.

SANZAR appeals Michael Hooper's ban

It got to Quade and this to me shows how hard he wants to please, not just his coach, team mates and family but the general Wallaby public.
Unfortunately when shock journos need a target they strike at people that can’t defend themselves out of ‘dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t” and what is more annoying, the ‘journos’ (loosely used title) target their prey when they are at a low point.

Quade is a very good player, confidence is his biggest key to unlocking the talent he has, fully and consistently.
Proud of him wearing my coat of arms, proud of him wanting to succeed and yes proud of him for saying how it is.

Too good Jake 🙂

Bench has won them the first two tests.
As for the rest, lets see….

Heck, even Cheika says "New Zealand are the best team in the world"

Same can be said for McCaw, Cane and Todd better positional 7s but you cannot bench the rugby worlds best captain.

SPIRO: Wallabies strong but why isn't Cheika blooding new players?

Nice piece RT.
Fardy may have almost been gun shy?

Nice to read a post which is positive about the boys and their good win.
I’m happy with their progress two tests in and starting to see good game plan discipline, coaching staff and players gelling well.
