The Indian Premier League is an eight team Twenty20 Cricket competition which experienced its inaugural season in 2008. Before the tournament began, every IPL team was summoned to a player auction in order to form its roster for the coming season. Indian batsmen Gautam Gambhir is currently the highest paid player in the IPL, receiving a contract with the Kolkata Knight Riders worth over 1.5 million dollars a season. The IPL’s fifth season was contested in 2012 and was won by Kolkata Knight Riders, who defeated defending champions Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in the IPL final.

Has cricket corruption been filed in the ‘too hard’ basket?
by Tim Holt, 22 May 2013
You had to laugh when realising the exposing of corruption was the only time this year’s version of the greed-inspired Indian Premier League received any semblance of coverage. Outside of this, it is the version on the game that only ever achieves the level of a WWE-scripted farce, where the hit and giggle corrupts your [...]
IPL has been ripe for the taking since its arrival
by Alec Swann, 22 May 2013
If you watched the latest Mike Hussey masterclass in the Indian Premier League semi-final and didn’t have at least the smallest suspicion that what you were witnessing was not all as it should be then well done. Because I certainly don’t fall into that category. I know that’s assuming everything is tarred with the same [...]
IPL has skeletons, whatever Warner tweets
by Kersi Meher-Homji, 20 May 2013
The arrest of three IPL players including a Test cricketer, S. Sreesanth, confirms what I have been saying for the last five years about the sham competition. The reason cricketers play IPL is for money, only money and nothing but the money. They are well-paid but still they want more. The three IPL cricketers – [...]

Watson best T20 player after Gayle
by Ronan O'Connell, 3 May 2013
Shane Watson’s ballistic form in the current IPL season should have reminded cricket followers he is a superstar T20 player. The Australian all-rounder in recent months has been pilloried by pundits and fans alike as a result of his poor Test form, his decision to step down as Test vice captain and his involvement in [...]

Aussies Abroad: Journeymen expats tear up early County season
by Max Weber, 23 May 2013
Any Australian cricket fans suffering a crisis of confidence over our current Test squad and their ability in English conditions need only to turn to the early season performances by some unfancied expatriates for some solace in a rather counter-intuitive place: The dreary, grey, long-sleeve sweatered and anachronistic world of County cricket. In particular, a [...]
Adam Gilchrist bows out Gangnam Style
by mactheblack, 23 May 2013
Whatever career Adam Gilchrist tries to pursue as a day job after retiring from all forms of cricket following a stint in the IPL, he should give dancing a shot. For Gilchrist proved on a balmy night in Dharmsala that he can swivel his hips as fast as he can wave his cricket bat. He [...]

The Aussie cricket team aren’t THAT bad
by nick richardson, 23 May 2013
I, along with many other Aussies, spent our autumn afternoons watching what was a disappointing showing by Australia in India. This sub-continent failure has caused an echo of comments relating to how bad the Aussies are and how easily England will steamroll the visitors. Unfortunately this one series has blown things out of proportion and [...]
